Review: After warning him about his unorthodox behavior on cases, Nikolena assigns Alex "Drago" Dargovich the Enforcer with eliminating a threat to their vampire race. Drago is to determine whether half-breed Dhampir Marya Jaks, daughter of a vampire hunter, lives or dies. Marya being a Dhampir has the innate ability to locate bloodsuckers and if she could become a slayer of the undead, Drago must eliminate her. After meeting her, Drago grants her life.Drago returns to Paris, but is shocked when Marya leaves a message on his voice mail that she will kill him. Apparently another vampire has persuaded Marya that Drago changed his mind about her. No longer willing to wait for Drago to carry out his revised sentencing, Marya plans to take action. However, Drago never changed his decision. Someone wants one of them permanently dead and if this duo fails to communicate that assailant will succeed. Who needs Anne Rice when they you have AFTERIMAGE, the second novel in Jaye Roycraft's vampire tales (see DOUBLE IMAGE) is an exciting supernatural romance that provides a refreshing look at the undead. The story line is loaded with action and plenty of bite as the lead couple is wary and mistrustful yet falling in love with one another. Supernatural romance readers and vampire lovers will enjoy this novel and look joyfully forward to more fables set in the Roycraft universe. Summary: Kiss of the Dragon
Review: AFTERIMAGE is second in the Image Series created by Jaye Roycraft. First introduced in DOUBLE IMAGE, it is primarily the story of Alek Dragovich, l'enforcier, the sometimes hated primary Enforcer of the Directorate, a vampire hierarchy beset by betrayal, corruption and jealousy. Dragovich is not especially loved by his comrades, nor by the beings he polices in the underworld. Only Nikolena, la directrice of Drago's particular branch of the Directorate, seems able to tolerate his insolence and his desire to do things "The Drago Way." But his relationship with Nikolena is a rocky one. When she sends Drago to pass judgment on Marya Jaks, a dhampir, or half-vampire, whose father was a renowned hunter of the undead, Drago purposely grants the beautiful--and herself insolent--Marya life, despite her danger to vampirekind. The decision sets into motion a conspiracy to remove Drago from his seat of power. But who is behind this sudden desire to tear Drago down in the ranks? At first, Drago believes it is Marya herself who is out to destroy him--Marya who is embittered by her life and treated as an enemy both to humankind as well as the Directorate. Marya who belongs to both worlds and to neither of them. An interesting array of emotional fireworks ensures. AFTERIMAGE is a fast-paced story coupled with romantic suspense, action and drama. The characters are real and believable, from the sultry Drago to the bittersweet Marya and even Revelin Scott, Drago's assistant (Or is he more?) who added a wonderful flair of humor and tongue-in-cheek to the story. I have to admit that before I was done I began to hope the author would deem Scott worthy of his own story someday as his hip, charming and mysterious character stepped easily off the page. Jaye Roycraft is a definite force behind the next generation of paranormal romance and June 2002 will see the release of her newest in the Image Series, SHADOW IMAGE. Karen Koehler,

He has been doing it for years and years and is one of the highest ranking vampires in the world. But, he is growing bored and is angering other vampires by doing things his way, and not the expected way. But Alek cares not and chooses to give life to Marya Jaks, daughter of a Dhampir-offspring of a vampire and his mortal wife. Marya has 1/4 vampire blood and can use it to track and kill vampires. She should die because of this, but on a whim Alek chooses to give her life and what he decides cannot be overturned by anyone. Marya Jaks has lived her life preparing to die for being of mixed blood. When Alek gives her life, she decides to come out of hiding and reenter the human world. But one week after she is given life, she encounters another vampire who tells her that Alek has changed his mind and she will be terminated in two weeks time. Marya is furious and decides that before she dies she will kill Alek for his betrayal. Alek is surprised when Marya announces her intent to kill a vampire, an instant death sentence for her. Byt what he learns is that someone is trying to set him up. He had not ordered Marya's death and before he or Marya can be killed, he has to figure out who is trying to get him killed. Alek's and Marya's journey is full of danger and peril. Two people who should never fall in love begin to while fighting for their lives. But neither one knows if they will survive their time together. Jaye Roycraft is swiftly moving to the top of the vampire romance genre. She is on my MUST READ list and I can't wait to read the third book in the series, Shadow Image, due out the end of July 2002. I hope this series continues for many years to come.

Rather then take the easy way out, Darcy is determined to earn enough money to pay for her passage to Egypt. She is working on writing a collection of Egyptian stories that she hopes will get published and she accepts the position of secretary to Dr. Simon Garrett, writing a book on the derivation of words. When she first arrives at Rosewood Hall, Simon wants to dismiss her because he expected a male but Darcy's typing skills persuades him to give her a chance. From the very beginning Simon and Darcy are attracted to one another as if they knew each other in another lifetime. Both try to fight the attraction but neither are successful yet if they are to find any happiness, they must fight the evil that dwells within their midst. J.A. Ferguson has written a beautiful reincarnation romance starring two lovers who must fight and win against an old enemy if they are to have a second chance at life and love. Set against a mid-Victorian English background, Call BACK YESTERDAY is a gothic ghost tale that will appeal to lovers of romance that have a strong dose of the paranormal in the plot. Tradition would have him terminate her existence immediately, but a deeper feeling is able to convince him she deserves life. Would he live to regret his decision? She is an endangerment to his society . . . Gypsy Marya Jaks's entire life had been put on hold in anticipation of the final day when she would learn if she were to have a future. Having been the daughter of a dhampir, she has the cunning ability to detect vampires. Such a skill as this would allow her to become a very successful vampire hunter. When she wakes from a deep slumber and finds the infamous Drago in her bedroom, she fears the end is certainly near. She is stunned when Drago unexpectedly gives her the gift of life. Upon gazing into his blank soulless eyes, she is drawn in by a sadness that is locked deep inside a bottomless depth. What they offer and suggest is both frightening and tantalizing. She knows before her is a man who will either be the death of her body or the salvation of her soul. Jaye Roycraft writes with bone chilling hypnotic words that ultimately demand the reader's full attention. I feel with such writing skills as she so effortlessly exhibits, paranormal writers worldwide should be aware of the magnitude of competition they are to soon face. I feel honored and privilege to have been selected to read and review such a memorable novel. I predict the name Jaye Roycraft will one day become an every day household name.

Summary: Another great series!!
Review: I loved this book and I highly recommend getting the other three books in the series. The books are hard to find right now but hopefully the publisher (Imajinn) will be printing more copies. The characters are strong and well defined. Once I started it, I didn't want to put it down.

Summary: Vampire and Dhamphir in Love?
Review: Marya Jaks hates vampires. Her grandfather was one and her father was a vampire slayer killed by a vampire. Because she is part vampire, the Vampire Council, has reviewed her case every few years since she reached adulthood. So, with a potential death sentence over her head, Marya leads a rather lonely life, not wanting to get too involved with anyone. She hates the vampires even more for this, even though she doesn't have her father's need to kill any of them. The council sends L'Enforcier, Drago to give her her final evaluation. Drago, is tired of running errands and just to be contrary, grants her life. Marya is relieved and starts her life anew. Until another Enforcer arrives to tell her that Drago has reversed her decision. Furious and with nothing to lose, she sets out to kill Drago. The only problem is, Drago didn't reverse his decision, and has to keep her with him to protect he while he finds out who really gave the erroneous orders. This was a fast moving novel, with almost no break in the action. I read it in one sitting.
