Summary: Another delctable Savannah Reid mystery
Review: In Southern California, club owner Kat Valentina is found dead. The local coroner rules that the renowned former movie star's death was an accidental drowning in her health spa caused by the consumption of too much alcohol. Former Georgia police officer Savannah Reid operates a private investigation company in the area that Kat was found dead. She begins to investigate Kat's death when someone slips ten grand under her office door. ......To start her inquiries, Savannah goes undercover and begins to work at the spa. Several suspects come to light almost immediately with motives for seeing Kat dead. Additionally, Savannah has to wonder if it might have been suicide since Kat suffered from breast cancer. As she controls her appetite for sugar, Savannah continues to investigate a potential murder that has too many suspects, making it not only difficult to solve but leaving the intrepid Southern belle to question whether a murder even occurred. ....... The third Savannah Reid who-done-it is a captivating mystery due to the delightful Savannah, the supporting cast, and the well written prose of G. A. McKevett. The who-done-it is relatively easy to figure out but that does not take away from the charm of the book. It almost seems as if that this is the first course in a seven course meal. Fans of the who-done-it sub-genre will want to dine on KILLER CALORIES as well as the previous two tales (JUST DESERTS and BITTER SWEETS) because these books contain a female detective who knows how to enchant her readers. ........Harriet Klausner

Summary: Fun stuff...
Review: No, not a diet book... Another Savannah Reid mystery.... Killer Calories by G. A. McKevett. This is one of the earlier ones in the series (the 3rd), and it is definitely a fun read.

A disco movie star (who happens to run a "health spa") is found dead in a mud bath. All indications point to an accidental death involving too much heat and too much alcohol. But Savannah gets an anonymous note with a load of money asking her to investigate the death. The letter seems to point to either suicide or murder. Savannah, who loves her food and her size, checks into the spa to do some undercover work. But between the horrible food and the excessive exercise, she wants to wrap it up as soon as possible.

Everyone seems to have loved the dead star, but there are an abundance of suspects who would benefit from her death. The harder Savannah pushes, the more her own life seems to be in danger. Plenty of twists, and you don't find out the killer until the very end.

A shorter novel, a quick read, and excellent humorous writing and character development. I'm really going to hate finishing up this series...

Summary: Forget the frog joke
Review: This is third in the series with Savannah Reid the overweight female ex-cop. I haven't quite figured out the sex angle. She shares a bedroom with a gorgeous young female assistant and has three close male friends, two of whom are gay and one of whom she finds physically unattractive. I came to it after "Cooked Goose" which is more of a thriller. This is more of a classical whodunnit although no real clues to the killer are planted, and after I had finished I decided the murder method made no sense. It has the British cosy set-up of a closed community (a health spa) containing the detective and the likely suspects, but I don't think Miss Marples would have told the frog joke.

Summary: Another great adventure with Savannah Reid.

Summary: Did someone say SPA?
Review: This was my favorite of the three-book series about Savannah Reid, detective and dessert gourmet! (though there was not enough Ryan Stone in this one!) Savannah is a wonderful sleuth who, along with her team (her former police partner, a bouncy detective-in-training, and two former CIA agents) follow the clues to reveal the secrets of the death of Kat Valentina. Along the way, Savannah must endure a week at the spa... something totally foreign to her dessert-loving nature.

I look forward to reading the next venture by this crime-solving team!

Summary: Great southern-flavored mystery!!
Review: Wonderful book. As a southern female who has lived outside of the south for several years I could really relate to Savannah Reid!!
