Summary: GREAT story!
Review: And not too sensual. Sure, there's the longing that goes with courtship, but we are spared the intimate details. If you love a good story, but prefer not to read about throbbing body parts, read this book. If you think good novels have to have sex, then keep looking cuz the details in this book are left to the reader's imagination. This is a nice mystery, lovable characters, and a great story line. :)

Summary: You'll be hearing lilting Irish phrases in your head...
Review: Andrew Greeley succeeds with the ultimate writer's challenge: a story within a story. His historical fiction is spiced with unrequitted love to sweeten the savory stew he's cooking up. Irish heritage comes alive in the romantic mystery that surrounds Ireland's equivalent to the Kennedy assasination.

Summary: A real page turner, I could not put it down.
Review: Andrew Greely is a great writer, I've read many of his books. I have 3 in the Nula Ann and Dermot Michael series, now I want to complete my set. Can anyone find me a hardback copy of Irish Gold?

Summary: A romantic novel written from a truely male perspective!
Review: Andrew Greely sttikes gold with this wonderfully romantic mystery novel! Nuala is the most appealing character I've ever read! Dermot is real and awkward and full of life! The inner diologue is shockingly realistic. Both sexes will enjoy this one. Finally a romantic novel written from a male perspective that is well written and explores the sensitive, insecure side of men without sacrificing the rough-and-tumble! A great balance!

Summary: Irish (Not So) Gold
Review: I hate to be the only negative voice in a chorus of enthusiastic reviews but, if the story of Michael Collins hadn't been involved, this book would have made me gag before I got through the first fifty pages. I found the cutsey "Irish" dialogue to be cloying and the perfection of the heroine, gushingly described at every opportunity, to be not only unbelievable but irritating. Both of these flaws interfered with the smooth flow of the story, which, without them, would have been pretty engrossing.

Summary: Greeley comes from an ancient heritage of story-telling.
Review: I have been a fan of Andrew Greeley for a long time--my first introduction was "White Smoke." This book eclipses that fine tale. The good Father is a skilled story-teller and a sensualist to boot! His weaving of history along with the modern love story between Nuala and Dermot was delightful. I didn't want to put it down. It also offers a plausible explanation for Mick Collins' death. In addition, it brought back fond memories of my travels in Ireland to find my family roots. Turn off the t.v., get a good drink, a comfortable chair, and prepare to enjoy yourself.

Summary: Too Perfect
Review: I like many of Andrew Greeley's books (Patience of a Saint is a favorite of mine), but I couldn't like this book as much as some of his others because I found Nuala altogether too perfect. Greeley's female characters are almost universally beautiful (goes without saying), strong of character, and usually very successful, but Nuala was just a bit beyond the pale for perfection for me. Really, she was described in such unrelentingly rapturous terms I couldn't get beyond it. How about some praise for our hero Dermot?

Oh, well, probably just jealous. Call it sour grapes!

Summary: Terrific Read
Review: I picked up this book on a whim, it didn't look like the kind of book I normally would read, then I remembered "Don't judge a book by it's cover." :-) I read the first chapter and couldn't put it down. Engaging characters, good plot, and good use of History. The only bad thing I can say about this book is that it distracted me from concentraiting on my work. LOL!!

WELL worth buying
