Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I don't get it Review: Everyone here really seems to like this book. As a matter of fact, I read it because of a recommendation here. I have to admit, I'm a sucker for the hard-boiled school, as this book certainly is. However, I thought the book was complete waste of time. Every character, including the hero, is extremely one-dimensional, and the book was very formulaic. Maybe his other stuff is good, but don't bother with this one.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Hardcase - "Best action book ever ?" Review: From the opening page to the ultra-cool (I won't spoil it!) finale "Hardcase" delivers lighting paced action. The hero "Kurtz" is a straight forward, man's man hero, who takes and dishes out his share of punishment. The characters are credible, the pace is relentless, and each 'scene' is staged and executed to perfection. After the disappointments of 'The Crook Factory' and 'Darwin's Blade' Simmons has achieved his skillful best yet again - putting the works of Koontz and King to shame.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Don't want to mess with this guy! Review: Hardcase was possibly the best action-filled book I've ever read. Joe Kurtz is an awesome character and pulls the reader into his life in the first line. If you are looking for a fast-paced, thrilling page turner, this is the book for you! Dan Simmons has never let me down with any of the books I've read. He is a highly versatile author that you could never get bored with. His selection of books vary from Horror to Sci-Fi and he writes each brilliantly!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wow!!!!!! Review: I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. Non stop thriller. I hope Mr. Simmons decides to return to this character as he leaves the reader wanting more. If you like F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack novels, this one is on par with them without any supernatural overtones. Dan Simmons continues to impress.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Gritty, distrubing and funny Review: I think this is the most fun I have had reading a novel in the past couple of years. I laughed out loud several times. It is a very dark sort of hummor but if you get in to that sort of thing you will love this book. The characters are also great - bizarre in a Dickensian sort of way. A violent Danny Devito look-alike dwarf, a psychotic albino... As always, Simmon's prose is dead on, and leaves you with images that will stick in you mind for months.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Yikes Review: I'm a huge fan of both Westlake and Stark so of course I grabbed up this book when I saw the taglines and reviews. Unfortunetly, this comes across as well written as a Mack Bolan (The Executioner) novel disguised as a mystery. VERY(!!) simple and cliched - I won't be checking out this writer's other novels.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: A disappointing effort Review: I've loved every book Dan Simmons has written--until now. While "Hardcase" is a fairly enjoyable thriller, it's yawningly predictable and simply not a worthy effort for a writer of Simmons' talents. But it's surely a matter of expectations--go into this one expecting a standard P.I. vs. the Mafia story, and you'll probably enjoy it. But if you're looking for something that measures up to his previous work, this ain't it.
