Rating: Summary: Great but could have been better Review: For some reason it took me about 60 or so pages to get into this book. Although this is supposed to be Robin Burcell's first Kate Gillespie book it seemed like the first few chapters referred to a prior drama in Kate's career that would have best been explained in a prequel to this book. Once I got up to speed however, this book was hard to put down. Kate is a great protagonist. She is a strong female character that shows very little fear and hardly ever defers to the men either in her life or on the periphery of it. I hope this book is the first in a series. Keep up the good work Ms. Burcell!
Rating: Summary: This book is a winner! Review: I absolutely loved this book! It met all of my requirements for an excellent and absorbing read -- good characterizations, an intricate plot, and a suspense-filled finish. Kate Gillespie ranks right at the top of my list of favorite female police officer protagonists. She's smart, funny, endearing, sexy, strong, intrepid, vulnerable, able to hold her own in a male-dominated world, but still able to be a woman and feel the emotions of a woman. The budding attraction between Kate and Mike Torrance is so suggestive and subtle that it's more exciting than if it were graphic. I hope the author will allow them to continue to develop their relationship, and to find a way for them to be together despite the difficult peer pressure, given the nature of their respective jobs (Kate, Homicide Investigator; Mike, Internal Affairs). Is this book the start of a series featuring Kate and Mike? Hopefully, it is, and that we won't have to wait too long for the next one. Robin, good luck on your Anthony award nomination for Best Paperback Original. I'm not attending Bouchercon this year, but if I were, my vote would certainly be cast for your book!

Rating: Summary: Keeps the Readers Interested Until the End Review: I have read hundreds of mysteries and thrillers and so when I read a story from a new author which actually kept my interest I must give it praise. Ms. Burcell's writing is paced well, stays on track and does not disappoint toward the end. This is something special nowadays when many writers seem to abandon the suspense in the last 20 pages of their books. Good luck to Ms. Burcell and I hope that her next book comes out soon.
Rating: Summary: Macho enough for men, emotional enough for women <GRIN!> Review: I liked Kate Gillespe a lot. She had enough emotional struggles to be a very real character, but was able to keep her emotions under control professionally. There was plenty of action to keep you interested, with enough psychological plotting to keep you invested. I hope this character is the beginning of a series, as I would like to learn more about Kate and her crew at work. I can see this character growing a lot based on this book.
Rating: Summary: Never wanted to put it down!! Review: I loved this book!! I love Kate's character, her whole personality is very appealing. I was guessing through the entire thing trying to figure out what truly was going on and who was behind it. I enjoyed reading about the chemistry between Kate and Mike Torrence, they both basically felt the same but knew they couldnt pursue their relationship not only because of the case they are working on but because of their positions on the force. After I read this I quiclky went out and bought Fatal Truth by Robin Burcell, and it was so short compared to this one but equally great!! I definately cant wait for her next book!!
Rating: Summary: Good 1st Book in a Series? Review: I'm hoping that this isn't the only book the author plans on writing featuring Kate Gillespie, Mike Torrance and Sam Scolari. "Every Move She Makes" is a great combination of action and suspense with a little romantic tension thrown in on the side. My only complaint would be the somewhat convoluted "who done it" explanation at the end (and the whole "seed" thing seemed pretty obvious). I look forward to this author's next book.

Rating: Summary: Solid but not spectacular debut Review: I've been putting off reviewing this book. It's not that I didn't enjoy the read. It's just that it's hard to pin down anything exceptionally good or bad to say about it. While a female homicide detective is still pretty rare in both fiction and the real world, there are so many female protagonists in mystery fiction that Kate Gillespie doesn't really stand out for me. Her character doesn't seem very deep - aside from a fondness for lattes and the good sense to live in the East Bay, she's pretty one dimensional. The plot is more than a little conviluted with far too many players, potential hints and stage business for my taste. It's all explained in the end but some of the sub-plots prove to be pretty irrelevant. And then there's the men in her life. Her ex-husband is actually one of the more interesting characters in the book - sort of a creep but maybe not. The relationship with her supervisor has chemistry and trouble written all over it. Burcell does an adequate job of working the Bay Area setting into the story line although the plot could have been set almost anywhere. My biggest gripe is that Kate never seems to encounter traffic on the Bay Bridge -- clearly a work of fiction. Bottom-line: A pleasant read for fans of mysteries with female protagonists or set in the Bay Area. Otherwise, I wouldn't go out of my way to find it.
