Summary: Riveting! No over-hype here. I could not put it down.
Review: This book was interesting from the first page. It is extremely well written. Andrew Klaven must be the envy of most authors. This story is compelling all of the way through and the ending will knock your socks off.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Well worth your time
Review: This is one of those rare novels where you don't know whether to like or hate the main character. Talk about self-destructive! I've always believed interesting characters is the most important key to hooking a reader to a story. And it ain't a bad story either! A reporter is assigned to cover the story of a prisoner condemned to die that day. If I say more, I'll ruin it for you. Just read it.

Summary: Novel writing at one of the finest stages.
Review: This Klavan novel started a little slow, but was quickly ressurected by the protagonist Steve Everett, a man I can really relate to. Steve is the kind of man who is just trying to squeek by in life, and can not help the predicaments he finds himself in. Now he uncovers a deeply buried false allegation that could send an innocent man to the gates of Heaven. I felt myself racing against the clock with Mr. Everett to be the savior of Frank Beachum's life. He cut the time right down to the wire and that is what I absolutely love the most about such novels. Klavan created strong and convincing characters, and moved the story with a consistant flow. I have decided to rank this novel with several other must reads. I have not been so compelled by a novel since Thomas Harris's The Silence of the Lambs!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Terrific book, will be reading other Klavan titles!
Review: This was about the 25th book I've read this year and it is this years favorite! I loved the use of a thoroughly dislikeable main character who becomes the hero. I think most males can relate to this character whether we like to admitted it or not. Despite the serious nature of the story, I found myself laughing at the hilarious comments/thoughts of Everett and his boss! I was also pleasently surprised that this book did not take an overly "anti-death-penalty" point of view. Like Everett desribed his liberal parents, I find the anti death penalty arguments boring and irritating. So sue me! but I digress...this book was great and I intend to look into other Klavan titles!

Summary: This death watch will become your own!
Review: What a GREAT book!! I can't remember ever becoming so completely absorbed in this type of a book before. As the hours pass by and the scheduled execution gets nearer, I guarantee your heart will be racing with the same anxiety and fear as the prisoneers. Why Klavan isn't an absolute publishing superstar I don't know. He is certainly deserving, and if he keeps putting books out like this he surely will become one. This one will stay with you for a long time!

Summary: Half a great read!
Review: When Klavan is writing from the point-of-view of newspaper man, Steve Everett, this book rocks...it would have ranked a ten if Everett's was the book's only POV. It's when the other voices kick in -- Frank Beachum, his wife, the warden, etc. -- that the novel crashes and burns, as if Everett himself were driving his beloved Tempo into a brick wall. A big disappointment.

Summary: Great Book
Review: When you read it you do think it's a true story. It should become a classic. What a suspense! Perfect characters and timing. You won't sleep till you've finished it. It's one of the books you can really call a page-turner.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: My palms got so sweaty, the ink ran down the pages
Review: While I was reading this book I almost began to cry for Frank Beachum and his family. I laughed when Ev was in his Tempo and when he had trouble with his wife I felt mad.

I laughed, I cried, I got real mad.

This book is a must read for convicted killers and for those of us who just like to read good literature.
