Finally a woman who is self- confident and entertaining.I like the idea that she had a little dog, and that she did not feel that she or any woman needed a man to complete her.I look forward to morebooks starting Sunny Randall.

Review: This was a great read even though the plot wasn't up to Parker's best, suspense wise. However, the characters he introduces are fun and compelling to read about and easy to get to know.I disagree with some other comments here that this parallels "Thin Air." I see a direct parallel between Sunny and her teen age protaganist, and Spenser and Paul G. in "Early Autumn." In both "Family Honor" and "Early Autumn" the young people are saved by the hero/heroine and a relationship developes which transcends the immediate case (book). At least in the Spenser version. It remains to be seen if this will reappear in future Sunny Randall novels. All in all a fun read. So hunker down and enjoy!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Fast, Fun Read Review: Robert Parker has a winner with his new detective, Sunny Randall, a divorced, former cop turned Boston P.I. who owns a miniature bull terrier and really wants to be a professional painter. She's smart, tough and very good at her job. This story revolves around the disappearance of a wealthy teenager, Millicent Patton and Sunny works her way through a violent pimp, murder and government conspiracy to solve the case. In the process, she gets help from her ex-husband Richie, the son of a mobster and her dearest friend, Spike, a colorful, tough gay man. Together this threesome make things happen. Parker has put together a terrific and memorable cast of characters and has no equals when it comes to his witty one-liners and irreverent dialogue. The story is fast paced and entertaining with a strong climax and satisfying ending. Sunny Randall is a fresh new character and hopefully, we'll be seeing more of her in the future.

Review: I am probably the only person on this planet who has not read Parker, though I know Spenser from TV and enjoy the character. I picked up this book because I like to read series from book #1 and I enjoy female protagonists; this one filled the bill. I thoroughly enjoyed Parker's style and the characters, especially the dog, since I have one just like him at home. I truly hope this is the beginning of a new series and that it isn't a one-time only for Parker's friend, Helen Hunt.

It is wonderful to see the female lead find her way through the same sort of dilemma and challange in her own way. After I read it my daughters grabbed it and enjoyed it just as much. It is nice to see Parker reapply his art.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Great summer fun Review: Had to check the book jacket to make sure the author was of the male pursuasion, since he understands the female mind of his protagonist so well. No question, Parker is always a fun read, but this time around (you male readers may not understand this) he truly proves his skill. To step out of one's own skin and speak for a fictional character is the test and job of an author, but to accomplish this while stepping out of one's gender as well, shows extraordinary ability. Plus..it's a fun read, good story..let's hope for sequels.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: NO! Not Spenser in a dress... Review: Sunny Randall, P.I. is a whole wonderful new(hopefully) series of her own. As a major Parker fan, I can't wait for each new book. I was not dissapointed with this one either. Yes, it's different, well guess what so is the whole male/female race. I really enjoyed the new cast of this book, "luved" the dog. Found it very interesting, that she had married & divorced "one of the bad guys". I hope there will be more Sunny Randall books. As all of Parker's books I found this fast paced, entertaining, quick read.

Can anyonetell me if he has written any more Sunny Randall novels? I hope thisbecomes a regular series...she's a great protagonist, one I'd love to follow in a series, believable, smart, a sexy ex-or not so ex-, the perfect mix of mystery and fun sub-plot, everything you'd hope to find in a series mystery. I can't wait to read more. END
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Spenser in a dress! Review: Usually, if I really love a series written by an author, I can't stand any of their other books or series. I'm not sure why that is, but it might have something to do with being bitter that they have spent time on something OTHER than the series that I so desperately love. However, Parker's newest is almost the same exact creation as Parker's oldest (Spenser). The protagonist is a PI in Boston who will work for free if the case merits the generosity. The protagonist also has the exact same sharp and witty personality as Spenser. The only real difference is that this new PI is a woman. And she can't cook. At all. Other than that, it's essentially a Spenser novel and man-oh-man does that make me happy. Two series for the price of one! Yahoo! So, if you're a Spenser fan, check it out. The plot is a LOT like one of the plots in an old Spenser novel, but who the heck cares? It's great!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Helen Hunt got her book Review: When you know from the outset that a writer wrote a book solely for the film rights, and wrote the main character for a particular actor, you can prepare yourself for what's coming. Such is the case with Family Honor, which was written for Helen Hunt. (It's already, of course, been optioned.) Parker is, of course, best known for the Spenser novels, but when he chooses to get away from them, more often than not his main character is a recognizably different person than Spenser is. Sure, Spenser and, say, Jesse Stone share a few characteristics, but you can tell they're different people. However, the main wisecracking detective in Family Honor might as well be named Sunny Spenser. The differences between the two (aside from the obvious) are negligible. Face it, this is a Spenser novel in drag. And as far as Spenser novels go, it's a pretty good one. Problem is, it's the attempt to change the character that grates on my nerves. Hopefully, now that Ms. Hunt has her film role, Parker will dump this line and get back to Spenser and Stone. ** 1/2
