Summary: Way out there.
Review: As a Laymon fan I have to say this has got to win the "most far fetched" award. Yes, Laymon is typical of far fetched novels but this wins hands down! Sherry is in for one heck of a night. I continued to ask myself "why" doesn't she ever call the police. I'm sure that would be a Laymon no-no, but geez this book just gets farther and farther away from reality. I found myself saying "oh, come on-this can't be happening." When a book just gets to unrealistic for me I have a hard time staying interested. This is one of them. I love Laymon and will continue to hunt down books he wrote. I just hope this is the worst!

Summary: Not up to par
Review: I am an avid Laymon fan, and have loved all 12 or so of his novels I've read up to this one. There wasn't anything in thsi book that really turned me away, but there wasn't anything that made me want to keep reading either. Picking up this book reminded me of the feeling of having to read books for high school. I was reading it just to finish the book, not because I wanted to. That said it wasn't a bad book. It's just that it doesn't offer anything aside from sex, violence, nudity and a psychopath. Some people may enjoy it, but there are much better Laymon books to read other than this one. Check out Island, Night in the Lonesome October, One Rainy Night, and The Travelling Vampire Show if you haven't yet read them.

Summary: An OK read but nothing special
Review: I enjoyed Laymon's THE TRAVELLING VAMPIRE SHOW and thought ONCE UPON A HALLOWEEN was a wry, tongue-in-cheek hoot, but this one just didn't ignite for me.

Like other reviewers here, I just never understood why Sherry never called the police, and actively refused to when given the opportunity. Also, after being raped and brutalized, she refuses to go to the hospital, which made absolutely no sense to me.

There does seem to be a revenge-story vibe going on here, but we're given precious few insights into Sherry's character, aside from her love of Rush Limbaugh. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be serious or satirical.

The teens are almost abhorrent in their rampant hormones; they want to help Sherry track down Toby Bones, mostly because they're hoping she'll go to bed with them. And, again, after being raped and brutalized by a teen, why would Sherry strut around naked in front of two other teens? In another part of the book, a group of teens captured by a killer turn on each other viciously, showing human nature at its worst.

The end is a little problematic; the survivors of the spree seem to have created a vigilante squad, and it's hinted that a 25-year-old woman is initiating a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy. However, that chapter is presented as if the boy wrote it, so it could be fiction or wish fulfillment on his part.

Although the hardcover is thick, it was a quick read.

Summary: Never go to the Speed-D-Mart alone at night!!
Review: I enjoyed this book, although I thought the ending was a bit unlikely. But then if I'm honest there were quite a few bits of the book that I felt were very unlikely - HOWEVER...it still kept me up til way after midnight because the tension was so good.
It'd make a good slasher film!!

Summary: Exciting and Gory but typically Richard Laymon
Review: I really enjoyed this book but found it slipped into one of Richard Laymon's average books. There are a few twists and turns that add to the excitement and the characters are very strong which make the story better. This is a story which makes you think twice about who you talk to and also brings in the element of revenge. Overall a good read but don't expect fireworks.

Summary: Worrying
Review: I sincerely hope that the author had his tongue planted firmly in his cheek when he wrote this book, because the idea that people like Toby Bones (or even bearing a slight resemblance to him) exist does not sit very well with me.

Laymon has a tendency to write his male teenage characters without an ounce of commom sense, intelligence or morality.

I've read plenty of Laymon, but this is the novel that began to turn me off him. If parts of this don't seriously insult you, worry about your own sexual tastes.

Summary: Typical Laymon Read
Review: I've read alot of Richard Laymon's work and this offering is a good, solid read but doesn't quite hit all cylinders for me. The plot of the story is quite an intriguing one. A young couple are about to make love for the first time but the condom splits before they get started so the boyfriend decides to go to the 24 hour speed d-mart about ten minutes down the block to buy some more condoms. So the girlfriend is left waiting in his apartment for him to return. Ten minutes later he hasn't returned yet, 15 minutes, 20 minutes over half an hour and he still isn't back , so she starts to worry about what might have happened to him but tries to convince herself that there's a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why he's been gone so long. But over one hour later when he still hasn't returned she somewhat reluctantly decides to go out and try to find him. But she has no idea what she's getting into as she heads off into the night on the streets of L.A., and this is where the story really begins. The two main characters have quite a bit of depth and are fairly convincing, although at times you are left bewidered by some of the actions that are taken by the girlfriend which seem illogical. There's alot of violence and gratuitous sex which some people may find perverse and offensive but that's just how Laymon writes. Overall this is an entertaining read but not one you'll remember for anything special.

Summary: Come Out Tonight
Review: Not one of Laymon's best but still above average for the horror
genre. Not for the "G" rated crowd.
