Rating: Summary: The novel that made me stop reading Robin Cook's books. Review: Although competently written, Mindbend, at its core, has a plot device so ludicrous that it goes beyond unbelievable... For the record, a young doctor discovers a horrible research material harvesting conspiracy. When his estranged wife is targeted he must take action, all by his lonesome of course.
Rating: Summary: Med student turns into James Bond? Review: Although I'm not much for cook books, in the kitchen sense, I'd have to admit that this one stirred and sautéed my interests. The story itself was a little wild for the imagination, but the part about it that captured my interest was that it brought forth a seemingly true conviction. It provided the realization that although medical doctors are well-educated and in tune with physical maladies and treatment thereof, the array of drug treatments available to patients are prescribed by physicians largely as a function of good marketing and promotional techniques. Whether or not this is truly the case, it sure makes dear reader wary of his next visit to the doctor's office.A major drug company has found a way to increase its sales, by providing the ultimate and most convincing sales pitch.... Mind control. It's not difficult to guess at what the story is about, so relax... I'm not giving away the story before you sit down to read it! Since most of us rely on reading fictitious stories mostly for the purpose of entertainment, I'll have to admit that this one provided the sort of medical-student-turned-James-Bond type of adventure that it can only be. Like any 007 movie, we know that Bond will decimate the bad guys and live through action and adventure to get the girl by the end of the movie. The fun part is just sitting through all of the action. Same logic applies with "Mindbend." So, dear reader, sit down and give this one a little bit of reading light and attention and you will find yourself asking lots of questions (and looking for temporal scars) the next time you go to the doctor's office with your latest malady!

Rating: Summary: Fast read but not Cook's best Review: Cook is probably my favorite author but this is not one of his better efforts. It seems to me that authors get better with age and Cook's newer novels are far more complex and suspenseful. A good airplane book none the less.
Rating: Summary: Mindbend Review: I think that Mindbend is a bit unbelievable, even from the beginning. Adam is unreasonably stubborn, considering any kind of help from Jennifer's parents interference. The mind-control plot is a bit obvious, and the evil pharmeceutical company is overblown. For example, doctors would not steadily prescribe a drug, particularly for pregnant woman, that was harmful and ineffective. Anyway, the FDA would be running tests on it and doing recalls if it was awful, not private medical journals. I think Mindbend is a good read if you're patient and willing to overlook holes in the plot and characters.
Rating: Summary: Good read, yet unrealistic Review: I use two words to describe Mindbend--BEACH BOOK. Although it's a pretty good book and a quick read, it's very unrealistic. Dr. Cook usually presents his moral controversies in a very realistic way. But this one seemed to stray far from the point. It's by no means a bad book and I recommend it but if you've never read a Cook book, start with something like Contagion, Chromosome six, or Acceptable Risk.
Rating: Summary: exciting, one of his best of the ones I've read. Review: I've read at least ten of cooks books. Including mortal fear and invasion. This was one of my favorites. It was very exciting, and kind of scary. Althogh his books are usually all the same (all about some medical conspiracy in an HMO)this one stood out above the rest.
Rating: Summary: trust or not to trust? Review: In mindbend a young dr is going to med school and money is tight and his wife is going to have a baby. The dr (adam) is to proud to ask his dad for money, so he gets a job at a drug co that his owned by the clinic where his wife (jennifer) goes. It is a dream job, till one day something bizzare happenes to a dr at the clinic and effects his wife to. Fearing for his safety and that of his wife he takes matters into his hands. This book is really mindbending to read.
Rating: Summary: An unreal story Review: It is not the best action book, but it keeps you reading, in the last chapter the description of the hospital, gardens, beach are to long but you will have to read it to know the finish. The story is unreal almost all the time, is not like toxin that it could be real.
