Rating: Summary: THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE READ! Review: I was relunctant when I first began reading the book and actually set it down after the first couple of chapters. I ran upon some "down-time" and picked it up again. I couldn't believe how engrossing this book became. It was intriguing and hypnotic! I read it in one day. My husband's name is Adam and he bared the brunt of my repulsed feelings for the character, Adam! This book was great! I can't wait to read it again, except that I've begun passing it around to everyone I know so that they can read it, too! Wonderfully erotic and intellectually captivating.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: This was a great book. I literally could not put the book down, and I read it in one day. Nicci French is an amazing storyteller. I would love to read her first two books which were not published in the U.S.
Rating: Summary: Unrealistic beginning, then erotic w/ heart-pounding ending Review: 4-1/2 stars? This story really surprised me. It took me in a different direction from where I thought I was headed although, I admit, I did not trust Adam. We probably all felt she should have been too smart to fall for him, but lust often wins, even for brainy scientists. French wove an unusual story, full of twists and turns, and a surprise ending. I will pass this one among my friends and look for more of her stories. Thanks, Nicci French, for a great Labor Day weekend.
Rating: Summary: Compelling story, sick characters Review: A friend said she'd read a great review in the New York Times about this book and so I borrowed it from her. As soon as Adam and Alice "jumped into bed" without even knowing each other's names, I began to have my doubts...But something made me continue to read and read and read...Intriguing and compelling and spell-binding, etc. but I really can't say I'd recommend it to anyone..He was one sick puppy...Glad he finally got his "come-uppance"...
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: I was in search of a book for our next bookclub meeting, and I thought I would just read the first couple of chapters to see how the book was. Four hours later I was still reading.......and even took the book with me in the car in case I had a few extra minutes on my hands! I think the recklessness that Alice shows is enviable by lots of us "rule followers" and the writer does a great job of giving you reasons to love and hate both of the main characters. During some of the tense scenes where Alice is discovering information, my heart was actually pounding. I usually will quickly read through paragraphs to get "to the good stuff" but with this one I savored each sentence. Loved it!
Rating: Summary: Great summer read! Review: I ordered this book to take to the beach with me. I arrived 2 days before I left. I finished it in a day and half. It was great. Alice, the main character, captures you from the first page and does not let go. I generally do not read books written in the first person as this one. Here the lust, passion and fear could not be as compelling if written in the third person. Only Alice's perspective grips the reader. The book earned 4 stars from me because it is hard to believe that Alice, the scientist, would fall for Adam as quickly and completely as she did. That's the book's only negative. But once you buy into that, sit back and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! What a story!!! Best book I've read in a while!! Review: Great, gripping story with interesting characters. I could not put this book down until I finished it. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: A brilliant emotional thriller Review: This was used by the BBC as their 'Book at Bedtime'. It is well crafted and constructed in such a way that you will not want to put it down.I'm a guy who rarely reads novels because they don't grip me in the first few pages. This book did. It's reviews by all the major newspapers in the UK were uniformly great.
Rating: Summary: The best mystery of the summer! Review: A great book and really a fast read! A love story and a mystery. Well written.
Rating: Summary: Could not put it down! Review: I am not usually the type of person who will buy a hardback book by an author that I have never read before, but in this case I am very glad I did. I could not put this book down. "Killing Me Softly" is one of the best psychological thrillers that I have ever read.
