Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Tongue-in-cheek author strikes again Review: Magdalena Yoder is asked to supply food for Clarence Webber, a con man who is in the local jail. Imagine Magdalena's surprise when the man dies after eating a shrimp and grits dish prepared by her cook. After yelling at her about killing him, the local sheriff then asks her to help him solve the murder (this is only one of many things in this book which don't make much sense.) Magdalena discovers that there were 4 people who visited Clarence in jail and she deduces that one of them must have put the deadly arsenic into his dinner. She races around the countryside in her newly-purchase sedate Buick (which replaces the red BMW she has just sold to Clarence) and interviews the suspects while searching for clues. As in each of the preceding books of the series, the reader is informed that the Amish and Mennonite bloodlines are so mixed that Magdalena is her own cousin. This book is typical of the series--good for a few laughs, but it gets a bit trite and repetitive in the process.

She is a God-fearing Mennonite woman who also assists her brother-in-law, Melvin Stolfus to solve some of his more difficult cases. He is the Sheriff and has political aspirations. He once again asks for her help. Clarence Webber died while eating a bowl of gruel in the jail, gruel that Magdalena provided. She brought it, but her cook Freni made it. Freni is an Amish woman in her seventies who is not always easy to get along with, but she would never kill someone. As Magdalena sets out to discover who put the secret ingredient that killed Clarence into the gruel. She starts by investigating the four females who visited Clarence before he died. Turns out they all claim to be his widow. If that isn't enough, a teenage hellion, Allison, is dumped on Magdalena and spices up things at the Inn. Then there is the Reverend Nixon, pastor of the church with 32 words in its name. As Magdalena gets deeper and deeper into Clarence's past and his four widows, she finds herself in danger. Can she figure out who the killer is before someone else is killed, namely herself. This series is always fun to read. A fabulous cozy series. Magdalena finds herself in all sorts of amazing predicaments and her Mennonite take on things can turn an ordinary situation into a hilarious one. Her sister Susannah, who is married to Melvin, is a character all by herself, let alone with her dog Shnookums. I enjoy the different characters, the rich people staying at the inn, as well as the Mennonites and Amish and how they are all related to each other at least once. She has a wonderful way of telling a story and I constantly find myself reading more to find out what happens next. It's a book you won't want to put down. I highly recommend it and the whole series. Get ready to laugh!

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Pleasant Review: The man who bought Magadalena Yoder's sinfully red BMW, is found dead in his jail cell of arsenic poisoning. The only problem is, his last meal was from the Penn Dutch Inn. Oddly, several local spinsters claim to be married to him! Melvin actually asks for her help, and she has to save the reputation of her Inn. This is a pretty typical Penn Dutch mystery, there is really nothing too special about it. The grits recipes are way too plentiful. Grits are not everyone's favorite food.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Another fine mess for Magdalena Yoder Review: This series is one of my favorites. Tamar Myers did not disappoint me. While the plot line was not as clever as some in the past, it was still very entertaining. I hope Ms. Myers will continue to take us to Hernia, PA to visit with Magdalena and her family and friends. It is a great way to take a vacation without leaving home.

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A Little Better Outing for Magdalena Review: This tenth installment in the Magdalena Yoder series is a bit better thatn some of the more recent additions to this series. There is still an editing problem that is apparent in the books, but I found that there wasn't as much repetition and even less "wailing". That is an improvement. But there is still the "off the wall" plot and unbelievable occurences (a car lands in a tree when shoved off the road?) Still I found the book amusing and there is a possibility of another interesting character - young Allison holds promise. In this book Magdalena is asked by Melvin to help him find who has poisoned one of his prisoners in his jail cell. Magdalena goes off in hot pursuit of some really strange female suspects. Anyway, we found out "who done-it" in the end.
