Summary: Don't overanalyze.....................just enjoy!
Review: I was saddened by the loss of Lawrence Sanders. I have been a fan since Edward X. of the ".... Deadly Sin" era. My advice to anyone who reads this book is to simply enjoy it. Archie is a great character and is always a fun read. While this may not have been up to the standards of previous McNally's it is still worth the price and time spent reading it. Sanders will be missed greatly by this fan.

Summary: Ghostwriter not up to Sanders style!
Review: The ghostwriting style exhibited in McNally's Dilemma does not do well for the flowing prose of Lawrence Sanders. The book publisher, Putnam, has duped the faithful followers of Archy and his "discreet inquiries" of Palm Beach. But of course as one who was duped-"one never knows, do one?"

Summary: I really liked the book.
Review: I too, was deeply sadden by the death of Lawrence Sanders, and when I heard that there would be one last Mc Nally book I was thrilled. I read the copyright page before reading the book and knew that it was written or partly written by Vincent Lardo. Quite frankly, I thought the book was great. After reading the reviews, I guess not to many fans of L.S. agree with me. I have read all of Lawrence Sanders books and enjoyed everyone. I guess it's time to start over. Of course there will never be another Lawrence Sanders, however if I can have Archy McNally every year or so I would be very greatful to Vincent Lardo.

Summary: I am absolutely appalled to discover that Sanders did not wr
Review: After several put-down-the-book-and-groan moments because the writing was so unlike Sanders' style, I discovered that the book was written by a ghostwriter. I want my money back! The series can continue, however, the real author's name should be on the cover. I feel duped by Putnam.

Summary: Not as Sanders original, but still good enough.
Review: YES, Archy's father had an affair with lady C.H. on McNally's Secret!!!

I did not liket as much as the previous books, but Still thinks it was worth the reading

Summary: Archy McNally died with Lawrence Sanders
Review: I was in denial about the death of Lawrence Sanders (and Archy) and so I gladly bought this pseudo-McNally, knowing it just wouldn't be the same. And, it wasn't. All of the major characters are so very different. I don't think Archy's dad talked as much in all previous novels as he did in this one. Ms. Trewalney and Jamie Olson suddenly became talkers too. Connie became a caricature of her former self and what happened to all of those yummy food descriptions that were the Sanders trademark. I almost fell out of my chair when Archy donned a business suit....the only evidence that I was still reading a McNally book was the quick reference to a puce beret. The pacing generally felt the same and the plot was more or less similar to others (albeit much less clever) and I admit to a few giggles here and there -- but it wasn't the same. Is it worth buying? Well, it was a quick, fun read and if you're lonesome for good old Archy, then buy it. If you're expecting the McNally that you grew to love and will accept no less -- forget about it. I wonder if the series will truly live on -- "One never knows, do one?"

Summary: I hate to but in yet, but...
Review: Just saw the notice of the new book in today's LA Times. Shocked, knowing Sanders had died. Will read it though. Deserves a chance. I'm just popping in to say that I do recall the mention of a sister in an earlier book. And I do think a Christmas visit was mentioned.

Summary: Read the other McNally books by Sanders
Review: Putnam should be ashamed to use Lawrence Sanders' name and character this way. He did not write this book! Buy the other McNally books, they are wonderful.

Summary: I don't like to be tricked into buying a book.
Review: I own hardback copies of all the Lawrence Sanders books. With the exception of a couple of them, they were too good to wait for paperback release. For years, I had stared at the author's photo and wondered when his writing would cease, hoping it would be many long years from now. I was thrilled to see the latest book with the Sanders name and couldn't wait to order it and devote a day to devouring it.

I have no idea what made me read the copyright page, but I was so stunned by the notice, written in fine print, revealing the author was someone I had never heard of. I don't buy hardback copies of unknown authors. I felt duped!

I could not enjoy the first 100 pages of the book because I found myself analyzing and re-analyzing the new author's writing style, comparing it with that of Sanders, trying to decide if the new author was trying to emulate Sanders or strike a unique note. It made the reading experience tedious, rather than enjoyable.

That said, I think Vincent Lardo (the new author) does an admirable job. Once over the initial shock, I found the book engrossing.

I find the publisher's trickery reprehensible, however. When the cover lists a particular author's name, that author should be the one who penned the work.

Summary: From a McNally in NJ: Such a Disappointment
Review: I was devastated when I learned of Lawerence Sander's passing. His books had provided me with so much joy through the years, and I knew it would be no more. But then a new "McNally" book appeared, and I was overjoyed to have one last venture into the world of Archie McNally. I started reading the book and could tell it wasn't as good as the others. Was Mr. Sanders ill while he wrote it? I imagined all types of horrible scenarios. Wanting to know if others shared my concerns, I logged onto Amazon.com to read other's reviews. This is how I learned that the book was not actually written by the great Mr. Sanders, but by an imposter. I looked at my book jacket, but found no evidence. Then I looked at the copyright page- there was the proof in small print. I was devasted. I had been mislead. I finished the book anyway and it was terrible. Mr. Sander's family did not do him justice.
