Rating: Summary: Another winner by Folsom! Review: Alan Folsom keeps coming up with these great story lines! Day of Confession was another page turner full of action and suspense. He holds your attention from the very first page to the end. Folsom writes in such a way that it's easy to follow all the characters throughout the story. He kept the pace going as fast as he did in Day After Tomorrow. The locations in Rome were so accurate I felt like I was in the city with him. I'll be watching for his next book!
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing 2nd novel from Folsom. Review: I came across Folsom's first book by accident and was immediately impressed and engrossed throughout the whole story. As soon as I saw Day of Confession I grabbed it anticipating an equally enjoyable read. What a disappointment! A very weak story, not believable and written in almost an "afterthought" style. It's a book that shouldn't have been written and I'll be more careful the next time I see one of Folsom's books hit the street. I hope he shows more respect for his readers next time.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read But Nothing Special Review: Day Of Confession is a fast-paced, entertaining book that is worth reading, but shouldn't be placed at the top of your "To Be Read" list. Folsom's second effort could have been much better if it was 100 pages or so shorter. Be aware, if you've read Day After Tomorrow, you're likely to be somewhat disappointed by this book.
Rating: Summary: Interesting story - until the end. Review: I really enjoyed his first book, which had a fresh plot and made you think. This book was just fun. Folsom just put his tongue in his cheek and started writing - what came out was a guy who did not know he was superman - the 'baddest" guy ever - a nice girl - and bad "Catholics" - what a great combination. The ending was goofy with all the shooting and outsmarting of the top terrorist in the world by a bunch of amateurs. I hope his next book allows me to turn of my brain again, and enjoy reading another 400 - 500 pages of pure fun.
Rating: Summary: Another great "Day" for Allan Folsom! Review: Like several of the reviewers I have read so far, I, too, was a huge fan of Allan Folsom's first book, "The Day After Tomorrow", and the way his numerous diverse plot lines came together into one thrilling climax.Folsom's second effort is a brand new "Day", "Day of Confession". While this book has many of the same elements of his first book -- cinematic European setting . . . fish-out-of-water hero perpetually on the run . . . gratuitous and brutal body count . . . diabolical and ruthless assassins -- "Day of Confession" is not simply "same stuff, different 'Day'". It stands on its own as a distinctly intriguing page-turner. (As I write this review, I'm operating on two hours sleep, because I couldn't put the darn thing down last night!) While the central premises -- be it the greed, murder and corruption among the Pope's "Men of Trust" or the secret sexual desires of a novitiate nun -- may not sit well with many practicing Catholics, let's not forget that the book is, after all, a work of fiction, not a statement. For intrigue lovers, the villain Thomas Kind, is as evil and relentless as they come, reminiscent of the master-of-disguise assassin with the removable legs in Folsom's first "Day". And the dwarf, Hercules, is the perfect Pancho Villa. The sheer number of key players in this thriller are sometimes cumbersome (not unlike a Clancy opus), so much so that the author has seen fit to list a cast of characters as a foreward to the book. As thrillers go, "Day of Confession" is just about as good as it gets. True to his screenwriting roots, Folsom knows how to keep his audience wanting more until the very last page. As with his first novel, this one screams to be made into a big-budget blockbuster movie, starring, say, Harrison Ford as Harry Addison and Jennifer Lopez as Elena. Hmmm, can Gene Hackman do an Italian accent?
Rating: Summary: Excellent to say the least Review: I have been waiting with anticipation for a new book by Allan Folsom. Well now I have it and it is a REAL page turner. Maybe it is a little far fetched in places but hey, that's what makes it so entertaining. Can't wait for another book Allan! Please don't take as long this time.
Rating: Summary: Good but not great like his first novel Review: This book was fast paced and well-written however was not as believable as the first novel, which was engaging and somewhat believable until the very end. This one lacked plausibility from the constant escape from several impossible scenarios to the police chief seemingly single-handily disregarding evidence and his own sense of justice for his fallen colleague to uncover the truth. Just not likely. None the less this was an engaging book. A page turner and an exciting novel.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book! Review: The best part of this book was the note at the end that said Allan Folsom is busy working on his third book! Keep them coming!
Rating: Summary: Good, but not as spectacular as his 1st. Review: To me, "The Day After Tomorrow" was easily the best book I read in 1994. Since then my anticipation for the follow up was high. I was thrilled when I saw "Day of Confession" was out. Another complex plot filled with well defined characters. You can really loathe the evil doers, cheer unashamedly for the good guys and feel sad when a good guy dies. As with "Tomorrow" the reader has to suspend disbelief a number of times...but isn't that part of what fiction is all about? Things move rapidly and you can find yourself knocking off over 100 pages at a sitting. Mr. Folsom certainly helped the reader this time by providing a list of the characters with a one line descriptions. This is a welcome aid until the characters flesh out. It was a fine read, resolved well. It lacked the knockout punch delived at the end of his "Day After Tomorrow".
Rating: Summary: Mr. Folsom's first book, "The Day After Tomorrow" was better Review: Like the reader from Singapore, I was also disappointed in this book. Mr. Folsom's "The Day After Tomorrow" was an intense page-burner. If you have not yet read "The Day After Tomorrow", then do not wait any longer! Yes, it is THAT good. However, it will spoil you: you will search for other books that measure up, and you won't have much success. Perhaps I expected too much from "Day of Confession". If it were written by anyone other than Mr. Folsom, it probably would have rated fours stars. It is a good read, but pales in comparison to his previous work. Has anyone out there read "The Day After Tomorrow" and then found any thrillers that are as intense/good?
