Rating: Summary: Excellent book; a great read Review: Day of Confession was an outstanding book for the genre. It was the first of Folsom's books that I have read, and I enjoyed it immensely. Many readers complained of the length. However, I was fascinated by the journeys through Rome, Italy, Switzerland, etc. Folsom did an excellent job of making the novel come to life. Other critiques stated that he had done no research for the book. I suggest that they read the acknowledgements.
Rating: Summary: WOW!! Review: What an incredible book. I bought this book on a Saturday afternoon, and by the time I got to work on Monday I had read the entire thing. The action and suspense in this book were incredible, and the way that Folsom described all of the characters' stops throughout Italy made me feel as if I'd already been there.
Rating: Summary: Not as exciting as Folsom's first thriller Review: Folsom's first book, Day After Tomorrow, was so exceptional and had such a dramatic ending, that anything else was bound to be hard to follow. In Day of Confession, there is major action on Page 1, and the whole rest of the book seems to be one long conclusion. Too long, too many delays, most characters are predictable. I still like the genre, however, and will look for Folsom's next book.
Rating: Summary: Nowhere near as good as "Day After Tomorrow" Review: I'm really glad I didn't buy this book (even in paperback). I've done a lot of reading over the last four months and have rediscovered the joys (and money saving value) of the public library system. My disappointment with this book is based on a level of expectations created by Mr. Folsom's captivating debut novel. From the start, I had difficulty getting into this book and staying with it. For some reason, I just didn't care about Harry and Danny Addison and that's a shame because the premise behind the plot was actually a good one. It should have made for an exciting read and yet somehow, it just fell flat. The most interesting character (and the one Mr. Folsom seems to have spent the most time developing) is the terrorist, Thomas Kind. The author's descriptions of his background and the perverse sexual pleasure he receives from his barbaric murders of numerous members of the cast is chilling when you read it. Despite his anti- social behavior, Thomas Kind is the most interesting character in this novel that runs approximately 200 pages too long. Allan Folsom has written two bestsellers back to back. Just because the book is a bestseller doesn't mean it's a captivating read. Day of Confession isn't. That means Mr. Folsom is batting .500 (which isn't bad). But, based on this experience, when his next book comes out--I'm going to the library.
Rating: Summary: A FACINATING, QUICK READ! Review: DAY OF CONFESSION is the first Folsom book I've read and I absolutely loved it! If you enjoy suspense and adventure novels, READ THIS BOOK!!!
Rating: Summary: Exciting! Review: I do believe this is one of the best books I have ever read...and I read constantly. This does need to be a movie and I would love to cast it!! The plot is fast-paced and kept up the palpitations! Mr. Folsom,KEEP WRITING - AND WRITE FAST FOR YOUR FANS. Can't wait for your next book. Love your style.
Rating: Summary: Only mildly interesting Review: A major disappointment after the tremendous DAY AFTER TOMORROW. Dull characters, a dull plot, lack of characterization of the primary protagonist....very little to keep ones attention. If you're wavering at all, take a pass on this one.
Rating: Summary: If you liked the ending of "The Usual Suspects"... Review: This is one of those books that will capture you from the opening pages. The originality of the Vatican conspiracy is truly exciting. Just when you think you had it all figured out, you realize there is more than meets the eye....
Rating: Summary: FAIR, NOT GREAT - CERTAINLY NOT THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW Review: A BIG LONG CHASE. LITTLE SUSPENSE AND PREDICTABLE
Rating: Summary: Allan Folsom discovers recycling! Review: FADE IN: EXT. ALLAN FOLSOM'S HOUSE - DAY A title card reads: Spring, 1994, Encino, California Allan Folsom strolls to his mailbox at the end of his driveway. His house is modest, in need of a paint job. He opens the mailbox. One envelope from his literary agent sits inside, marked "RESIDUAL CHECK." FOLSOM Oh, goody! My first check for my first novel! I wonder if I sold any copies? Folsom rips open the letter in a flurry of excitement. His eyes widen. There is a number three followed by six zeroes. A dollar symbol precedes the numbers. Folsom jumps for joy. FOLSOM It's a best seller! My God! I'M RICH! (frowns) Man, I gotta do this again, and fast. Folsom runs inside. Flips on his computer. FOLSOM (bites his nails) Hmm. How am I gonna do this?... I know! I'll just take the same stuff from my hit novel and put it into my next book! Grisham does it all the time, and he's filthy rich! He takes the skeleton of plot from "The Day After Tomorrow" and slaps it in the Vatican. Same basic characters. Handsome guy on the run. Good stuff, he muses as he taps away on his keyboard, one eye on his stock investments. DISSOLVE TO: INT. ALLAN FOLSOM'S MANSION - DAY A title card reads: Six Weeks Later, Bel Air, California. Folsom watches his new book spool out of the printer. He bundles it off to his publisher without bothering to rewrite or proofread. FOLSOM Hell, proofreading is my publisher's job! (pops the pages in an envelope and sends it off to NYC). I gotta get that 45 foot sloop I've always wanted. Who cares if the book is good? Folsom laughs maniacally. The soundtrack to "THE OMEN" blares from the heavens. We rise over Folsom's head, taking in the view of his sweeping mansion as we -- FADE OUT.
