Summary: A must read for pilots and aviation buffs
Review: Enticing, a real thriller for anyone interested in aviation, although non-aviation types can get lots of enjoyment also. Lots of characters made it a bit slow to get into, but I couldn't put it down. I'm glad I didn't!

Summary: UGH! the details
Review: I am a huge lover of air disaster books. For some reason, I never heard about this one until just recently.

Now, I think I know why! While this book may appeal to people "in the airline business", for me, as a layperson I found it to be one of the most boring books I have ever read. This is suppose to be some kind of thriller, but this book gets stuck in so much detail after detail that I completely gave up reading after page 126.

What a boring book. Stay away from this one.

Summary: LOVED IT!
Review: I could NOT put this book down. As the mother of an 7 month old boy, my free time is limited. But once I started reading TRACON, I was picking it up every chance I got! I am a "white-knuckled" flier who is totally intrigued by the art of flying. Little did I realize how much of this art goes on in a dark room somewhere other than in that big piece of tin! TRACON expanded my understanding of the secret lives of air traffic controllers and how hard they work to keep us safe in the sky. Not only that, but what a wonderful mystery story! Just when you think you are finally at a slow point in the book, the author teases you with a little something more that makes you turn the next page (and the next and the next). I'm actually disappointed to be finished TRACON; I want more! Bravo Paul McElroy! My knuckles are a little less white now (maybe!). Whether you fly without thinking, or hold on for dear life, you HAVE to read this book!

Summary: Exciting view of air travel, great for pilots to read
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book, it was exciting, pretty believable, and as a pilot, often riviting.

Great job, look forward to more stuff from Paul McElroy!

Summary: Excellent!
Review: I really liked this book! The author has a real knack for drawing you into a scene. When the character's adrenaline rises, the reader's does too. The scene of newspaper staff trying to reach deadlines at the offices of the Chronicle was nearly as intense as rush hour in the TRACON. Great fun. The quality of these scenes made me feel like the author had a strong grasp on the subject matter and I loved it. Senator Master's ego and political gaming was also very well done and it brought about a very satisfying conclusion.

I would have enjoyed this book more if the extortion section would have been left out. It was too unbelievable that this character could have stolen items from a crash scene to begin with, but it was totally unnecessary and really a distraction from an otherwise perfectly exciting story. Overall a great book!

Summary: Fantastic read...gives a realistic picture of ATC...
Review: I'm fascinated with ATC and, although by no means an expert, this book portrays it in very realistic detail, much better than any other book that I've been able to find (fiction or non-fiction). Like all the other reviewers, I couldn't put this book down and I would recommend that all airline fliers read this if not for the potential terror associated with an airline crash, but for a general knowledge of how an individual plane is handed off from one controller/station to another. Fast paced and easily readable (even the technical parts), I give this book a very high recommendation!

Summary: A Rival of Crighton Fiction
Review: If you like Crighton fiction, you will find TRACON to be an excellent read. McElroy's characters are full and richly described down to the smallest personal traits. His plots are intricately threaded, fast-paced and well researched so as to throw the story far into the realms of plausibility. Once you pick this one up, don't expect to be able to put it down.

Summary: Real and an excellent read
Review: If you're in aviation or air traffic control, you quickly get tired of all the made-up jargon and 'fake' ATC scenarios...what is a Tower Aray anyway? As a former air traffic controller for 16 years and then one who went on to build ATC simulators for another seven, I found the book hard to put down. One of the places we built tower and radar simulators for was Chicago, and I can tell you Paul hit the mark with the personalities, aviation and ATC scenarios. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in becomming an air traffic controller, any who have been one, or just the average aviation enthusiast.

Summary: Fascinating book, couldn't put it down.
Review: Not only was this book the best I have read in a long time, but the friend who recommended it to me is a air traffic controller at Rockford, IL. airport and is going to O'Hare this month. She told me Mr. McElroy researched this book for 6 years, and that everything about the controllers is very accurate. Even when the book gets to the end you are still chilled and thrilled. Don't waste any time buy it now and enter a wonderful, exciting world. You won't be able to put it down.
