Rating: Summary: Read This Review: For Tally Nowata a trip to Australia was supposed to be a well deserved vacation. She was looking forward to spending a little quiet time with her lover Paul. Instead, the trip turns into her worst nightmare. Paul left to pick up his daughter at the airport fourteen days ago. He was only supposed to be gone a few hours. Stranded alone in the scorching desert with very little water and even less food Tally must seek out the nearest town (which is an insurmountable length away) in order to survive. As a skilled Search and Rescue Wilderness Ranger in the Rocky Mountains, Tally has had extensive training in survival methods. Unfortunately, Tally is out of her element and all of her survival training is virtually useless in the desolate desert. As Tally leaves the relative safety of the camp she and Paul had built she soon stumbles upon the grisly truth behind Paul's disappearance and realizes she's in far greater danger than she ever anticipated. Hidden in Paul's ruined vehicle Tally finds Paul's young daughter (from a failed marriage) Josie who has managed to survive on the meager supplies left in the vehicle. The discovery of Josie gives Tally a reason to carry on even when grief threatens to undo her. She must, at all costs, get the girl to safety. Gripping from page one "Leave No Trace" only intensifies as Tally must not only struggle to survive against impossible odds but finds herself running for her life. Though tense and filled with suspense the book shines as Tally and Josie, initially wary of each other, get to know each other on a level most people will never experience. Both need each other to survive and forge a bond that gives them the drive to needed to get through the endless days and nights. The characters experience incredible growth and Tally, especially, finds it a life altering experience. I've never had to struggle to survive nor have I been anywhere even remotely near a barren desert but the author brings the terrifying experience to vivid life. The things Tally and Josie must do in order to survive are sometimes disturbing and are gruesomely described but never for shock value. The story slows down here and there but never for any tedious length of time. Just when it seems like everything will be okay another overwhelming obstacle is thrown in the way. The desperate search for food, the delirium, exhaustion and unexpected wounds and, again, the careful attention to character development make this book an unforgettable experience. 4 ½ stars ~ Laurie Shallah

Rating: Summary: Mental and physical struggle of amazing survival Review: I love the movies but even if they never make a movie based on LEAVE NO TRACE, I won't grieve...the book is action packed, suspenseful, thrilling. I love adventures stories where the protag is a woman. Tally is a tough, courageous, wholly human being who is struggling not to let a horribly hot, huge desert kill her. You also come to adore the little girl, Josie, who becomes wise beyond her years along this adventurous journey. If you love books like FOLLOW THE RIVER or MRS. MIKE, I highly recommend LEAVE NO TRACE.

Rating: Summary: Mental and physical struggle of amazing survival Review: I truly enjoyed this adventure from the very start. Nyala has an excellent style of capturing the mental battle in Talley Nowata's mind to survive through an amazing trek. I will definitely read her next book!
Rating: Summary: Read This Review: In addition to being an excellent adventure story, this book provides an insightful picture of anthropological and naturalist details of the Australian outback. A love story, a crime novel, a philosophical diary and an ending that just brings it all together. A great read! I am looking forward to more from this author.
Rating: Summary: Intensely Gripping Suspense Review: Ms. Nyala has successful made the transition between her previous non-fiction work (POINT LAST SEEN) and this current fictional tale of a woman struggling to survive in the Australian desert. Joining her research scientist boyfriend, Paul O'Malley, in the Tanami desert of Australia, Tally Nowata relies on his desert knowledge for survival. Though she works search and rescue in the Grand Tetons, nothing has prepared Tally for her quest to survive when Paul fails to return from a trip to replenish supplies and pick up his ten-year-old daughter Josie at the airport in Alice Springs. When Tally discovers Paul's body in his Land Rover, her hope of survival plummets. With little food or water, she is unsure that she can survive the journey to the nearest village. That journey is further complicated when she discovers a feverish Josie hiding in the back of the vehicle. As Tally and Josie trek across the desert, they find that they are not alone. In pursuit of them are ruthless members of the drug trade whom Paul had the misfortune of stumbling upon Ms. Nyala's gripping description of the search for food and water takes the reader deep into the desert land fighting for survival. It is a world permanently etched in the reader's subconscious, complete with sandstorms, wild dingoes, and deadly heat. And amidst this life or death struggle is Tally's awakening to the protective maternal instincts that she never thought to have. With descriptive prose carefully balanced with Tally's conflicting inner demons, this is a read to be savored.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: Tally Nowata works for the US National Park Service as a search and rescue ranger in the Grand Tetons. Currently on a four-month furlough, Tally and her lover Paul O'Malley vacation in the Australian outback. He leaves her at their campsite to pick up his daughter Josie at the Alice Springs airport with a maximum return time of four days. However, Paul fails to return and with her food and water dwindling, Tally begins a trek out of the Tanami Desert while seeking a clue about the whereabouts of Paul and his daughter. The desert climate is a far cry from the Wyoming Mountains she is used to, but even with a cracked rib, Tally finds the jeep with a dead Paul inside and a barely breathing Josie with him. Taking the child with her, Tally must reach civilization before their water runs out or the killer completes the job even as she wonders why. LEAVE NO TRACE is an exciting survivalist adventure that leaves no reader unhappy with the action of a plot that never slows down. The story line feels so real that the audience will drink a lot of water while trekking along with the two females. Tally is a great protagonist as she struggles to adapt her skills and experience to a different, at least in her case, more hostile climate. Fans of action thrillers will want to read Hannah Nyala's thrilling tale. Harriet Klausner

Rating: Summary: Excellent and Riveting Review: This books was one of the best books I have read in a while. I was so glad I saved it for a vacation day because I was able to read it from cover to cover in one day without any interruptions. This book kept me hooked from the first page. The words created pictures so clear it felt like I was there in Australia. The book was interesting way beyond the mystery value. You not only learned a lot about Australia, but also about survival. You almost felt the thirst, the sweat, the tiredness as much as Tally did. I would highly recommend this very talented author and book. I can't wait for her next book!
