Rating: Summary: Mega-Technothriller Review: "Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice ..." The Reeves-Stevens have it both ways in ICEFIRE, their new (and in many ways best) book, a Clancyesque thriller that ricochets from Antarctica to New Zealand to Hawaii to California, following the path of the ultimate tsunami wave as it carries devastatation to various parts of the Pacific Rim. The only ones who know how to stop it are Navy SEAL Mitch Webber and environmental activist Cory Rey -- an unlikely team with a tempestuous backstory that provides good character drama during the few brief interludes when they (and we) stop to catch our breath. But there's not all that much time for breath-catching -- the story moves like a scalded cat. Scene after scene plays like a needle full of adrenaline straight into the heart. This book is such a perfect summer-at-the-beach read, it practically smells of coconut oil. So buy your copy now and avoid the rush.
Rating: Summary: Review from The Denver Post Review: "If you're on the edge of your seat waiting for the next Tom Clancy techno-thriller, then pick up ICEFIRE and hang on. Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, a wife-and-husband team, have written a suspense novel equal to Tom Clancy's megahits. It's the perfect summer vacation book -- its plot will keep you turning pages long after the sun has set, but there's enough meat to give you something to think about when you set the novel down." -- Mark Eddy, THE DENVER POST, June 14, 1998. Rating: Summary: ...the fun never stops! Review: ...highly recommended for anyone who has a fascination with high-tech thrillers, betrayal, and intrigue.
Rating: Summary: Good reading! Review: A very technical book. Sometimes got a little slow, but the action scenes were very well written. When you get to the final chapters, be prepared for a non-stop reading to the final. If you don`t mind reading technical stuff once in a while, this book is for you. Buy this book!
Rating: Summary: Great techno-thriller Review: Antarctica is a harsh, icy desert that is the perfect locale for conducting a clandestine operation. SEAL Captain Mitch Webber and others have been dispatched there because there is evidence of nuclear weaponry being planted in the area. After searching for about a week, the team begins to believe that the information is bogus. However, Webber does find some suspicious activity. When he goes to investigate, one of his own men tries to kill him. Though the rogue SEAL fails, he manages to unload a nuclear device into the nearby sea. Needing to inform his superiors as to what has happened, Mitch flies to McCurdo Base where, to his shock, he sees his former lover, militant eco-activist Corey Ray. By the time the duo leaves the area, two nuclear devices are exploded under the sea and in the air. Six devices break the Ross Ice Shelf apart, sending a five-hundred foot tidal wave around the globe. Unless the scientist and the SEAL can find a way to stop the ICEFIRE, life on this planet will cease. ICEFIRE is one of the better military techno-thrillers to be written in a long time due to its pulse pounding, non-stop, and plausible story line. The novel pleads(subliminally) that the world is in danger from unaccountable nuclear weapons that easily can land in the hands of an Armageddon-seeker. The Reeves-Stevens writing team has a future, especially since this book should go best seller. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: From open to close you cannot put it down Review: AS another reviewer points out there are several factors in this book that are a little off, but it is meant to be fiction and on that score it is excellent. If authors stuck to verifiable facts only and their characters really could exist, then we would end up with some pretty poor reading. If you want a good read this one is it.
Rating: Summary: Engaging, action oriented plot Review: At first I was really put off with this book and the introduction of its two main charaters, who are from two totally different worlds when it comes to careers, but both happen to be in the antarctic to investigate a strange radiation, and conveniently happen to be ex-husband and wife. Right. Look out for the reconciliation (recon-silly-ation) because you know it's coming! Other than that leap of faith, this book was really great. The technical issues were well written and vivid enough to blend into the storyline(s). The plot was made to seem so plausible that I found myself glad I live nowhere near the coast. A touch too much syrup, but I'll come back for seconds in thier next book - Quicksilver.
Rating: Summary: Fires on all cylindars Review: Great action book!! It lagged a little in the middle but only for a while. This story starts off and finishes with edge of your "couch" action. Played out like a big budget action movie. Highly recommended. Don't read Quicksilver first because you'll be too turned off to get to this one!!
