Summary: Adequate at best!
Review: Seemed too long and way too trite for me. An okay summer beach read but I too felt as if it was just missing something- a well thought out plot???

Summary: B A D
Review: SHORT: A frustrating and unrecommended read. All of the elements of a second-rate action movie are here, from the high body count to the transparent plot. Save yourself the time and wait for the made-for-TV movie.

LONG: Where to begin describing this terrible book...pretty much every part of it is bad. I felt like I was reading a B-movie script.

The characters are one-dimensional and cliched. There's the evil bounty hunter hell-bent on getting his target. The trashy but heroic single mom. The innocent little girl with mystical powers (Amanda). The bad guy who sacrifices himself to 'do the right thing'. The bumbling henchmen. Even these pale in comparison to the racial stereotypes portrayed by the old Jewish professor and the black jazz musician.

Summary: Reads Like a Movie Script
Review: Starts off and continues with lots of potential until he begins writing the last 75 pages -- then I felt like I was reading a movie script with impossible car crashes and lucky gun shots for all the right people. And Amanda's condition is never really focused on -- just some vague reference to her healing abilities. Would have been better if the time was taken to explore it.

Summary: Clever story, strong ending
Review: Strong opening leads to clever unfolding of story that keeps the reader guessing as to what the McGuffin really is. Good characterization and motivation propels the story along. A satisfying ending with plenty of thrills along the way. Not quite as well written or tightly plotted as "True Crime", but a good read nonetheless.

Summary: WOW!
Review: The author really delivers on this book! It is extremely fast paced with one unexpected surprise after another. The characters are realistic enough for you to feel their pain, sorrow, or joy, and the mean guys are really nasty. The settings are described sufficiently so that you can picture the scene, and the plot is entirely gripping so that you can't stop reading. My one gripe (and it is found in so many books) is that the bad guys always miss and the good guys always get their man. Other than that slight suspension of belief, it is a book that will easily keep you engrossed until the very end.

Summary: impressively awful
Review: The premise at the heart of this book is unbelievable, the characters are lifeless, and the plot is ridiculous. Having been disappointed by others of Klavan's novels, I'm beginning to wonder if someone else wrote True Crime.

Summary: A true nail biter
Review: This book isn't one you want to pick up for 15 minutes before you go to sleep. You'll get engrossed, and won't be able to put it down. It's full of tension, and has truly interesting characters - unlike many popular thrillers. The ending caught me off guard (I won't give it away) and left me just slightly disturbed. Which meant the book essentially stayed with me after reading it. Good stuff.

Summary: Spine-Tingling Excitement
Review: This book made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. In places, I actually gasped with surprise! The opening chapter got my heart pounding and I could not put the book down until I finished it. I haven't read any of Klavan's books before, but this book definitely left me wanting to read more. If you like Dean Koontz, you'll love Andrew Klavan!

Summary: Great out of the gate but not much for stamina.
Review: This book started off as a gripping page turner. I read the intro/prolougue out loud to my husband I was so impressed. But that excitement quickly waned. The same scenes were described over and over again in succession as the bad guys offed yet another completely innocent person. I found myself longing for this book to get it over with so I could move on to better things. Then, all of the sudden it was over. I think maybe I'm missing some chapters. They get in the helicopter and fly away and that's it?!? Excuse me, but that's like getting half-way through the ninth inning and then having the teams walk off the field before it's over.

In short, it seems like the author only had enough original material for 2 or 3 chapters. Maybe he should stick to short story writing.

Summary: Page Turning Suspense
Review: This book was enjoyable from beginning to end. Using the key ingredient of suspense, Klavan keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are creative and true to their own nature; Lonnie as the main character is interesting all the way.

Some of the other reviews touched on the more "supernatural" part of the novel. Don't let them scare you. After all, fiction was meant to be FICTION - read it and enjoy.
