Summary: Did she write a letter that caused murder?
Review: Jaine Austen runs a writing service out of her apartment, in Los Angeles, called This Pen for Hire. She writes resumes, letters, brochures and personal ads - lots of personal ads. She shares her apartment with her cat Prozac.

Jaine's neighbor Lance Ventable is constantly telling Jaine to be quiet. He must live with his ear on their adjoining wall. He even complains that Prozac is too loud!

Howard Murdoch hires her to write a love letter to Stacy Lawrence, the aerobics instructor at his gym. Much to Jaine's surprise, Stacy agrees to go out with Howard.

Then Stacy is found dead, bludgeoned to death with a Thigh-Master. Howard is arrested, but he says he didn't do it. Detective Rea feels they have the right person in jail. Jaine decides to look into it. She feels responsible because, if she hadn't written the letter, Stacy wouldn't have agreed to go out with him and Howard would be arrested.

In the course of her investigation, Jaine meets Cameron Bannick, a major hunk, who knew Stacy but had an iron clad alibi. She is very happy about this when they start dating. She can't believe her luck.

Jaine uncovers quite a few people who weren't too sad that Stacy was dead. Some even had possible motives to kill her. In the course of her investigation, the killer begins to catch on and in the end, Jaine finds herself in a lot of danger.

I truly enjoyed this book. Jaine is such a likeable character. She is very much a three-dimensional character.

The additional characters in the book are all well written and the plot is well crafted. I highly recommend this book and the series. The 2nd book Last Writes has been published and is another terrific book!

Summary: I hate cats but loved this book.
Review: Laura Levine has filled her novel with quirky and humorous characters. Not the least of who is a cat named Prozac. I don't really hate cats, but I didn't love them either. Until I met Prozac. And if Levine can do this for a cat, imagine the results when she takes on the fabulous inhabitants of Hollywood. This book kept me laughing and turning pages. I can't think of a better combination, unless someone invents a cat who doesn't need a litter box.

Summary: What a great debut
Review: One of the best to come out in the new "chick" detectives genre -I laughed my fanny off in reading this and on top of it all, it was a great mystery too! I hope Laura Levine keeps them coming - she may give Sparkle Hayter and Janet Evanovich a run for their money ...

Summary: Fun but fluffy
Review: Parts of this book were enjoyable, but on the whole it wasn't. The solution was obvious to me fairly early in the book, so it was only the writing to keep me occupied. I almost couldn't go any further than the first 20 pages when the heroine's best friend's name was spelled two different ways in the same paragraph. I stuck it out & found many funny parts, but everything was way too predictable. The blurb says the author used to be a sitcom writer and you can kind of tell because everything was so well telegraphed, as a sitcom would have been.
I thought the hook was great - a writer hired to write a love letter, but the writer wasn't fleshed out well, and the supporting characters weren't much more than props for the heroine. I did like that she wasn't perfect, that she worried about her body, and that she procrastinated. But I didn't really like the way she talked directly to the reader - usually at the end of chapter.

Summary: A great quick and entertaining read.
Review: The heroine (Jaine Austin) is funny and the plot is engaging. Besides, who could resist a story with a demanding cat named Prozac? A health club beauty gets murdered and Jaine's pathetic client gets nabbed as the suspect. She feels guilty because it's due to her that the two even met so she decides to do some sleuthing on her own as the police obviously have the wrong man. The writing style is breezy and humerous although the heroine's constant self depricating jokes about her weight did get on my nerves. A nice lighthearted story that made me smile as I read it. Definitely recommend this one and I look forward to reading the sequel.

Summary: This Pen Is GOOD!!
Review: The story is well plotted, and the pace never lets up. It never looses sight of the fact that it's a murder mystery first; the humor never gets in the way of the story. I like the fact that a person who is trying to solve a crime, is not really a detective... makes mistakes and all! Read it and enjoy!

Summary: BEST BOOK EVER!!
Review: This book has been the best book I've ever read in a LONG time! This book had twists and turns and was absolutely wonderful! I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!

Summary: A Fun & Funny Read! : )
Review: This book is a fast and entertaining read, without a dull moment. (Read it in one day.) The main character is very likable and has quite a funny spirit. The plot was good, with a couple of twists, but a little predictable as far as mysteries go, and that's the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I look forward to more Jaine Austen Mysteries!

Summary: **LOL**
Review: This book was filled with "Laugh out Loud" moments. Poor Jaine used to be married to a man whom she refers to as "The Blob". She talks about how she had to surgically remove the remote control from his hands because he had grown roots in the sofa. That's hillarious!

Jaine's life is pretty boring until she meets Howard who hires her to write a love letter to the girl of his dreams for a dinner date. Harold still lives with his Mother and is a total Goober. Jaine's life becomes exciting when she learns that Harold has been arrested for the murder of his "dream girl"...could Jaine have been somewhat resposible for her murder? Thus, begins Jaine's quest to find out who really murdered Malibu Barbie and hopefully fall in love at the same time.

Levine's writing is clever and witty. I found it a little predictable, but very, very funny.
