Rating: Summary: The past always come back to haunt... Review: Ashamed of her bi-racial genetic make-up, Assistant D. A. Nancy Michaels, a.k.a. DeeAnn Taylor, has totally disowned her Black family members. The thought of being Black distresses Nancy so much that she moves far away from anyone who may even slightly remember her, changes her name and appearance, and decides to "pass" as a White woman. Nancy's secret is safe for several years, until one day she runs into her cousin Monica. That chance meeting sets off a string of events that prompts Nancy to resort to drastic measures to keep her secret safe and to protect everything she has worked so hard to achieve. WHEN WE PRACTICE TO DECEIVE is an absolutely riveting novel. Gloria Mallette has penned a tale so compelling, the reader will find themselves anxiously flipping the pages, losing all track of time as they become totally caught up in the lives of each of the characters. Although I wished it had ended differently, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kudos to the author for a wonderful debut novel! Reviewed by Renee Williams of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: I found the subject matter to be interesting for a Mystery/Suspense novel. It held my attention and I especially liked the twist at the end
Rating: Summary: Very Good Story Review: I liked this book because the story was very compelling and it is one that is happening today. It showed how family members can have different ideas and viewpoints about life, and how far one would go to protect that. I would recommend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Losing Everything Review: Nancy risked it all just to remain anonymous to her world, instead of facing the truth about herself. It's a perfect example of how people hide behind facades. Hers happened to be color. But even after all that, she still lost out in the end. And once more, what she feared, came to pass. I just loved how Gloria Mallette expressed it so well and I didn't even figure out the end. The book was worth reading.

Rating: Summary: Good plot, however, disappointing ending. Review: The concept of the book is terrific, however, I found the writing to be too amateurish and at times a bit too slow---even though the book is only 223 pages! The ending disappointed me because I felt it was a bit of a cop-out. I'm sorry to say, but I would not recommend this book to anyone else.

Rating: Summary: Excellent story not so great ending. Review: This was a great story, the plot development was wonderful and the twist at the end was really shocking, however I am only giving this story 3 stars because i thought I was shortchanged by the ending. I wish the author would have included Nancy's AKA DeAnn's reunion with her family and how they received her and their reactions to her news etc. That would have made this book worthy of 5 stars but still a great book nonetheless.
