Rating: Summary: Interesting but still more repetition Review: Lindsey always holds a person's attention, but much, maybe half, of Vanished is almost a word-for-word repeat of what appeared in his 1983 book The Rapture. Nevertheless it's worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this line as biblical or historically Christian Review: Lindsey has been peddling his end-time predictions for a generation now. He's distinguished himself with his ability to make piles of money even though he has been wrong about everything. If this man really believed in the coming "secret rapture of the church," he'd be channeling his royalties into evangelism instead of an opulent lifestyle. In the 70s Lindsey predicted the rapture to occur in 1981 and the millennium to begin in 1988, but you wouldn't know from reading his books that he's ever been wrong before. His whole approach is lifted from his class notes at Dallas Theological Seminary, but readers should know that many of the current faculty members at Dallas repudiate his sensationalistic date-setting. For a more responsible approach to the "last days" see *The Millennium Maze* by Stanley Grenz or *The Bible and the Future* by Anthony Hoekema. For an entertaining historical perspective on date-setters, see Robert Clouse's *New Millennium Manual*.
Rating: Summary: Vanished Into Thin Air: The Fate of Every Lindsey Prophecy Review: More of the same tripe Lindsey has been pushing in book after book after book for 30 years. I remember one of the last sentences in his first major bestseller "The Late Great Planet Earth." He essentially said (in 1970) "I wouldn't make any long-term plans if I were you." Hmmmmmm. I wonder how many people followed that ill-advised suggestion and ignored school, career training, investing, etc. It doesn't amaze me that Lindsey continues to write these false predictions. He makes a lot of money from it. What is amazing is that so many people continue to take him seriously.
Rating: Summary: A Real Christian's View Review: Some of the negative reviews were obviously written by non-Christians. But any real Christian should be just as displeased with this book. The beliefs expressed are much like those of the "Heaven's Gate" cult that also believed they would be magically delivered from this "evil" world. Those who believe in the "end times-last days" nonsense belong to their own cult, and it is not Christian. Fortunately, there are good books available now, telling how the new "kingdom" of God will be established on this earth, and how it shall last forever, never to be destroyed. (Daniel 2:44, Revelation 11:15, Psalm 104:5, etc.) I urge all people who sincerely want to become Christians to seek the real truth, because it is now here to be found. The message from the Spirit of Truth is here, as promised by Jesus, "to guide us unto all truth, show us things to come, and glorify (the Christ)." So beware of false prophets and others who claim to know when and were the Christ will come, for as Jesus said, they know not the truth.
Rating: Summary: Concentrate on the hope of your salvation Review: This book, more than any other, realizes the blessed assurance that awaits every beleiver. We all like to consider the ultimate doom that awaits this present age, and if we walk out of our homes each day and watch the television we can see what is happening in light of scripture. That's why I am glad for this book. It highlights the hope that a believer has in the time that remains for us, and does so in a way that non-believers can understand as well. Good work Hal, on this one, because of everything you have written, this of all is the most valuable.
Rating: Summary: The single best book I have ever read on the rapture!!! Review: This is the single best book I have ever read on the rapture and all the questions related to that subject. Lindsey does a thoroughly scholarly job in examining all the scriptures on the rapture and on the second coming. He sets out by putting aside his pre tribulation, pre wrath, and pre millennial views instead seeking nothing but the truth from the scriptures; He also examines the history of the belief (this part is a must for reconstructionists). What ever you believe about the rapture; this is a must read book; it will challenged many assumptions and also strengthen others. I won't get into what Lindsey's conclusions are, I will let you find out that for yourselves. Let me just give this book Vanished Into Thin Air the highest possible recommendation.
Rating: Summary: More than my money's worth! Review: Well, to those of you who do not like this guy! Sorry, I am a die hard Lindsey fan! I love, especially on this subject someone who list other scholars viewpoints and with Scripture back up why he disagrees with that view and then goes on to list scripture to backup what his viewpoints are. If you care to take the time to study on your own to know why you believe what you do what could be better? I found this book different than the Rapture book previously published. The title mislead me for I figured this would be like the Rapture. But with this book I learned more about: Intrepretation, Elijah, the puritans, Abraham, Reconstructionist, Augustine, and on and on. So I felt I got more than my money's worth on this one! So sure, Keep em coming Hal!
Rating: Summary: Hal Lindsey is a cottage industry in end-time books. Review: When I was in high school 25 years ago some friends and I read a number of this man's books; of course at that point he thought the end was 1984. The only reason to read Lindsey is to get you reading your Bible but why not just read your Bible and skip this blap. Your own mind and heart will bring Scripture alive for you; you don't need someone like this.
Rating: Summary: Cheap scare-mongering from a master huckster Review: While Vanished is based on an earlier work of Hal's "Rapture Factor" important new information is presented. Of particular interest is the biblical, scripture references presented as arguments against "Pre-wrath" theory of Martin Rosenthal that has caused recent concern in the church. Also, Hal addresses a dangerous and somewhat hidden movement the diminionists. This book is important as a reminder that we are the generation that will see Jesus come and we need to make sure our friends and family members are ready. Read "Vanished" to make sure that you are informed and ready.
