Rating: Summary: It¿s Not Just Brain Surgery Review: Dr. Jessie Copeland, a brilliant, dedicated neurosurgeon at Eastern Mass Medical Center, is deeply committed to each and every one of her patients and to her research project that involves developing a tiny robot that can be inserted into the patient's brain to excise tumors that are unreachable by even the most skilled surgeon. She has experimented on cadavers, but still feels that the robot is not ready for use on live human beings. However, her overly ambitious and politically minded department head, Dr. Gilbride, goes against her wishes and operates on a famous Olympic gymnast, and the operation is a success, bringing worldwide attention on the Medical Center. The attention focused on the Medical Center results in a media frenzy and hope that a large grant will be made to further the research. Jessie strikes up an improbable relationship with Alex Bishop, a security guard at the hospital, who we later learn is a renegade CIA operative. Bishop believes that Eastern Mass will be chosen by the evil mercenary Claude Malloche as the site for the life-saving brain surgery that he desperately needs. Bishop has been pursuing the elusive Malloche for years and feels that entrapping him at the hospital is his long-awaited chance to capture him. Of course, Bishop hasn't told Jessie any of this; she thinks he's just a former Marine, now hospital security guard that she may be falling in love with. The descriptions of the surgeries performed by Jessie are fascinating in their detail, and her warm, caring relationships with her patients are very humanizing. As the plan of Malloche and his equally evil followers to utilize the robot to repair his tumor is revealed, the plot of the book becomes a little far-fetched, but is so fast paced and interesting that it's easy for the reader to suspend disbelief and be swept along in the action. This fast-paced thriller will engross you until the last suspenseful page.
Rating: Summary: A Breathtaking Medical Thriller Review: This is the best thriller that Dr. Palmer has written to date. Claude Malloche is a feared, international assassin. Dr. Jessie Copeland is a young neurosurgeon and mechanical engineer. They should never meet, but Malloche has an inoperable brain tumor, and Jessie has developed an experimental robot to remove such tumors. When Jessie's headline-grabbing department head uses her robot in a high-profile case, the publicity gets Malloche's attention, and her fate is sealed. Or is it? Although she's caught in Malloche's deadly web, she has her wits and help from a CIA agent tracking Malloche. But the assassin and his crew are clever and ruthless. The intensity continues right to the story's end. This is a genuine thriller.
Rating: Summary: CD version is Great!! Review: This is the first of Palmer's books that I have read. I checked the Books on CD version out from the local library. The version I had was narrarated by Michael Kramer and was of excellent quality. The 9 CD set made my 3 hour round trip commute bearable for a couple of days! This is a definite must read.
Rating: Summary: A good book to enjoy but not to amaze Review: if you're looking for a book to spend a little while of you're time... this is it ! is well written, amusing... but do not expect much more... if you had read something of susapense before you'll find it easy to discover some details of the plot before you reach them. if not, you'll enjoy it better. i'm still recommending better robin cook's ones, but this is a nice book. from the Argentine lands Bertran Saragusti.
Rating: Summary: Poor narration, weak story Review: I cannot recommend this audiobook for a couple of reasons: - The narrator is horrible. I listen to audiobooks frequently (I have a long commute) and Harrow sounds as if she just came back from root canal surgery - she cannot enunciate. I had to listen to one passage several times because I couldn't believe the doctors had been in surgery for 93 hours. I finally realized she said "nearly three hours". The audio engineering is poor as well, with uneven sound. Turn up the sound to hear a soft passage and get blasted when the narrator decides to yell something (Harrow does not realize it is possible to convey shouting without actually shouting). For the record, I have the CD version and my car has a very nice sound system, so it's not the equipment. - The story is ok to start, but grows implausible as it progresses and gets downright silly at the end. I'm a fan of "suspension of disbelief" when it comes to fiction, but in a story like this there has to be some grounding in reality. I don't want to give away any crucial plot points so I can't elaborate...sorry! If you're a Palmer fan or like medical thrillers, pick this up at the library. Save your money and try something different, like Steve Martin's Shopgirl (read by the author). There's a great story!

Rating: Summary: A Heart-Stopping Medical Thriller Review: This is an excellent suspense novel, and very believable. The characters are very realistic. For example, Carl Gillbride is an ego-driven doctor- where have we seen that before? Palmer's story is exciting to read. It's not a book you want to put down once begun. Jessie is a treasure-smart, quick-witted and funny. You will like her right away. I recommend Palmer's other medical thrillers as well. His villains are really bad people, but they are very realistic and they will scare the life out of you.
Rating: Summary: More Great Work Review: Palmer has always been good at writing medical thriller. He does a great job of incorporating his experiance as an ER doctor to pull you in to the situation, and to make you think twice before going to the hospital the next time. What do they really do in the basement of your hospital? I hope it is not what they do in his!
Rating: Summary: Interesting Twists and Surprises Review: Engaging reading and several surprises makes this a fun book to read from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: ANOTHER Review: 'Nurse/Doctor Jane goes to Hawaii' book. My first Michael Palmer book and my last. I didn't finish the book because I don't really care who wins or loses.
