Summary: London Jewish Chronicle Review
Review: "Written in achingly beautiful prose that lingers in the mind long after the book is finished. This magnificent book can be enjoyed on many different levels--as a tragic love story, a chronicle of a Jewish community forced into exile, a uniquely precious document of a shifting and hitherto invisible culture and, perhaps above all, as a testament to the courage and tenacity of Iranian Jews."

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: As good as The God of Small Things.
Review: Beautifully written, sometimes heartbreaking and reminiscent of the great Indian magical realism novels -- read it!

Summary: Like a Fine Reisling Wine
Review: I could not put this book down. It flows with the beautiful language of magical realism. The plot is fascinating and compelling as it traces the impact of Iran's policies toward Jews thru varios regimes until the Shah is deposed and they are forced to flee. However, it does so thru the experiences of Lili, the bad luck child and those who surround her.The use of magical realism enhances the tale which is plot driven unlike some novels driven by magical realism that surrounds a contrived plot. This is a great easy read.

Summary: I didn't waste my money on this one!
Review: I have heard Ms. Nahai's interview on National Public Radio, and have read part of her book. I find her inarticulate and misinformed. I am sure there is money to be made in going along with the current propaganda, and adding fuel to the Iran-bashing that is going on. Shame on her for propagating such insulting distortions of a counrty she calls her home! She reminds me of Betty Mahmoodi, the author of Not Without My Daughter. Furthermore, I take exception to the comments on her book jacket comparing her prose to that of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. She flatters herself if she thinks that magical wings, levetations and clumsy names put her in the same category as such a master writer. The book doesn't fly as reality or magical realism. I did not buy this book, nor would I recommend it to any serious reader.
