Summary: Cronwell misses the boat
Review: dous succes of previous Scarpetta novels. Cornwell has made a sad mistake in this novel which, can hardly be rated it is so bad. Yhe dialect, the actions are totally unnecessary, the plot is trivial, and one must wade through pages of dialect to get to the meat of the problem. Unless she goes b= ack to preious types my buy rate is going to be zero where it has been 100%. It rates with Grishams' "Painted House" which is equally bad

Summary: Confused and Dissapointed
Review: While I sometimes found this book amusing, it was not worth the money I paid for it in hardcover. It did not keep me in suspense and I find it hard to laugh when the humor shares the same page as serious brutality. This latest work by Patricia Cornwell left me confused and dissapointed.

Summary: Not one of the better Cornwell novels
Review: As a fan of Cornwell, Patterson, Baldacci, James, and the Kellermans, I eagerly awaited Patricia's latest. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in Isle of Dogs. The attempts at humor are juvenile; most aren't even funny. The storyline is loosely woven - not at all what I expected from an accomplished author. Since I've just rec'd Baldacci's newest novel from amazon, I am tempted to skip the final hundred pages of Isle of Dogs. I hope Cornwell's next novel is an improvement over this boring book.

Summary: Terribly Disappointed!
Review: I too am an avid Cornwell fan and can hardly wait for her next book to come out. But unfortunately this was a terrible disappoitment and a total waste of time and money.
I love a good satire as well as anyone and must admit this is not one. It didn't make me laugh and it only made me want to get finished so I could move on to a good book. As I write, I am forcing myself to finish the last 50 pages.
I will wait for Patricia's next book, but I might not be as quick to buy and wait for the paperback.

Summary: A wonderful departure
Review: This book was a great change of pace for Cornwell. She is witty and quick with this story. I laughed as I haven't in a long time. She brings to mind Dave Barry and TR Pearson. Wonderful fun!!

Summary: What a dog of a book!
Review: Let me preface this with the fact that I am an extremely avid Patricia Cornwell fan, but this book is absolutely, positively awful. She stuffs in between the chapters extraneous info about Jamestown and its history, but most of this info has nothing to do with the rest of the book. It was so frustrating that ended up skipping most of them after plodding through a few of them. It was just filler. This book was alleged to be humorous. I didn't laugh once. The characters weren't quirky, just annoying. It seemed all the characters had an IQ of 2.

One other person who rated this book said it didn't have her voice. I agree. Even Dr. Scarpetta, who made a brief appearance, didn't sound anything like herself.

I had force myself to finish this book, hoping against hope that it would get better. It didn't.

I give this book no rating, (although Amazon forced me to choose between 1 and 5 stars). Don't buy it even if you find it on the remainder table for 50 cents.

Summary: What was she THINKING??
Review: This was AWFUL! I felt like the author was playing to inside jokes and using caricatures instead of characters. More tangents than plot. Was it satire? If so, I didn't get it. To bad there's not a zero-star rating.

Summary: Trying a New Writing Style
Review: I'm really surprised at all the negative reviews of this book. While definately not her best, I think it's a wonderful attempt for her to get away from the Kay Scarpetta series. I think the more recent Kay book are depressing to read and I can't imagine how depressing they would be to write, so her attempt at humor is refreshing. Is this book perfect? No. Is this book a literary masterpiece? No. What I did find pleasing when reading this book is the historical information and the humor she can make -- which means she really understands her research. That is something I can appreciate and look forward to more books like this -- give Kay a rest.

Summary: I Listened to the WHOLE THING!
Review: So many writers have said they could not finish this book! They were the smart ones! I actually listened to the whole thing, hoping against hope that it would finally make sense. I was wrong! It is a book that doesn't know what it wants to be! Is it a crime book? Well. . . not really! Is it a popular presentation of regional history and lore? Maybe, but that's not enough reason to listen to or read it. Is it a comic romp? Most assuredly, no! Is it a carefully crafted novel of forensic investigation starring Dr. Kay Scarpetta? Hah! Scarpetta appears as a very minor character. . . and she was probably embarrassed to be there.
People will buy this book because it's by Cornwell. They should read all these reviews before they part with one cent. And Cornwell should go back to doing what she does best: giving readers more of Dr. Scarpetta and her pathology lab!

Summary: One Star is Too Many!
Review: I wish amazon had a dog symbol or less than one star. I have yet to finish this book. When reading most Cornwell books I haven't wanted to put them down. With Isle of Dogs, I don't want to pick it up off of my night stand! It is THAT BAD! I had finished all of her previous works and was anxiously anticipating my pre-ordered copy of this book. I was sorely disappointed.
