Summary: Loved it!
Review: Yes, this is a departure from her other work, but it is hilarious! She pokes fun at the very same stuff she writes and we all love. I loved her choice of names "Trish Thrash", Possum, Unique, Smoke, etc. but even funnier were the situations they found themselves in. I loved the portrayal of the "hicks" from Tangier Island, the seeing-eye horse who is probably smarter than those around him, the trout was an extra funny touch, and, well, I could go on and on. I could see this being a movie, with Don Knotts playing one of the characters. Patricia, all I can say is your critics must have just wanted another same ol' same ol' (which are really good too, of course). I am glad you tried a departure with this book. It is great!

Summary: A wonderful departure for Cornwell
Review: This book is hilarious. Anyone who doesn't enjoy it has lost
their sense of humor. This is nothing like any of Patricia
Cornwell's other books, but is just as enthralling, only in a
different way. Even the characters' names are funny. I didn't
know Ms. Cornwell had it in her, but I sure am glad she does.
I won't go into the plot, as others have. I only want to say,
don't expect the usual Scarpetta chiller, just plan to have a
good time and read this book.

Summary: Major disappointment!
Review: Other than the names of two characters, there is no resemblance to any of Ms. Cornwell's books that I have read.

Until now, I have been a fan - always eager to read her new novels as they emerge. However this is a disaster and I am throwing it out after only reading the first 1/4 of the book.

Summary: Waste of time
Review: I enjoy all types of books, including most of Cornwell's books. I bought this book expecting a good weekend read, but this book is so confusing that there was just no getting into it. I got to page 123, then threw it down and said no more. It's the first time in many years that I have not finished a book I started. I was so disappointed because I have always enjoyed Cornwell's books, but Isle of Dogs is a waste of time and an insult to Cornwell's reputation. I feel I was cheated!! Stick to what you know Patricia.

Summary: Isle of Dogs
Review: Cornwell must be revisiting her youth and her love of "The Little Mermaid". Talking crabs..?????

Don't waste your time as I did trying to read this.

Summary: Probably Not Worth Your Time or Your Dime
Review: This book marks a clear departure for Patricia Cornwell from the usual Kay Scarpetta crime thriller to which her fans have grown accustomed. And, for Ms. Cornwell, this is probably as much a mistake as when Garth Brooks did that weird Chris Gaines thing a few years ago. I can understand a writer wanting to exercise a little creative muscle, but for the most part, this book seems to have been written after one too many beers and using only a purple crayon.

One of Ms. Cornwell's strengths is her ability to draw a reader into a story with a tight, well-written plot. Sadly, such writing is clearly absent from Isle of Dogs. I'm one of those readers who typically read about three books a week and won't put a good book down until I'm finished. By comparison, Isle of Dogs, took me three weeks to finish, that's how bad it is.

The jacket notes that the book is meant to be "black humor" and I can certainly recognize humor when I see it. However, I think Ms. Cornwell's attempts to be funny fail miserably. In fact, the humor is so bad in this book that I felt not as if I was reading a BOMC major selection, but rather an issue of Mad Magazine. This is perhaps most clearly evident in all the talk about the Governor's bathroom habits and in some of the character names as well. I mean, really, what was she thinking with Uva Clot and Ima Clot? If that's not Mad Magazine, I don't know what is.

All in all, you'd probably be better off spending your money and your time on another writer.

Summary: What happened?
Review: I could not get into this book at all! In fact, this is one of the few books I COULD NOT finish! Geez, I could hardly get started.

Do not waste your time on this one. Not even in paperback.

Summary: Isle of Dogs
Review: Am a long time fan of Patricia Cornwell, but this book stinks! It seems to go all over the place without ever arriving. Surprised that this talented writer produced this book! It could have been good, but the humor falls flat.

Summary: Isle of Dogs
Review: Waste of time. Waste of money. Waste of the author's reputation.

Summary: Isle of Dogs
Review: The Isle of Dogs has to be one of the worst written books I have ever read!!! It is nothing like the author's other books. I am so disappointed in this drivel. If it is supposed to be humorous, the author missed her mark. If she continues with this vein of writing, she will also miss her audience. The book was a total waste of money.
