Summary: On a cold February Night, just down the road...
Review: That's where Steve Hamilton's "Winter of the Wolf Moon" takes place--just across The Bridge from my home. And I'm sitting here by my fire, reading this book, thinking that Alex McKnight could be my next door neighbor, the one with the small cabins and far too many snowmobiles screaming on the cold night air. I know those Indians, those casinos, and even the bars with the fireplaces and greasy hamburgers.

I didn't relate too well to the plot, I guess: I couldn't figure out why Dorothy Parrish had all those men chasing her around, including Alex. I didn't understand the presence of Molinov, or why a Russian was sitting in the middle of a Northern Michigan lake in an ice shanty, jigging with corpses and plugging his own men.

But somehow, I didn't care. The action was exciting, and Steve Hamilton's sense of place and detail and his excellent prose style kept me sitting right there by my fire, finishing this novel in one sitting while outside the snowmobiles roared through the night.

Summary: A wonderful start to a new series!
Review: The only problem with this series is that Mr. Hamilton cannot possibly write the books fast enough to keep me happy! Once again he evokes my home territory with love and with fear- his descriptions of the weather and its effects on his human characters are dead on perfect. This is a man to watch because his books are just going to get better and better. I am just waiting to see how he handles an Upper Peninsula summer because he wrote so well of the awful winters we have that I actually turned the heat up in the house as I read the book.

Summary: No Sophomore Blues
Review: This 2nd book by Steve Hamilton, with the return of ex-cop turned sometime p.i., Alex McKnight, was surprisingly good...since this was Hamilton's 2nd book I was not expecting alot (thought he might live on his laurels since he won the 1999 Edgar, well..you all know how it goes)However, you need not have read A Cold Day in Paradise to quickly become absorbed in this novel.. Quick plot, frantic at times, his descriptive tones of winters in the upper peninsula make you want to grab a blanket. I eagerly look forward to the next Alex McKnight tome, however I wish his books were better edited: spelling errors

Summary: A great novel
Review: This is a great follow up to A COLD DAY IN PARADISE. McKnight is a classy character who is stuck in a place that he can never get out of and in a profession that how much he tried he can never get out of.

The novel about a missing girl and missing bag and Alex's growing obsessive search for her is engrossing, but not quite engrossing as watching Hamilton's masterwork with his sense of place and his use of the weather. I live in Jersey and started this before a snowstorm, and I shivering as I finished.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This is an excellent mystery. It has believable characters, a very good mystery, a knack for making the reader feel at home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, an easy style, and Alex is a very likeable protagonist. Also, Hamilton's descriptions of winter are extremely vivid. I can't wait for Hamilton's next book. There is one error that I feel compelled to point out. On page 32 Hamilton writes that there are one or two Beer Stores "in every town in Canada, from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island." That is incorrect: the Beer Store can be found only in Ontario. (He is correct when he says it's a wonderful place.) A very small point, but still ...

Summary: Winter of the Wolf Moon
Review: This is an excellent read from start to finish. It is hard to figure out "whodunnit" until the last couple pages. I find Steve Hamilton's writings very interesting and his descriptions of the "U.P." accurate (as I live not too far from the city of Paradise). I recommend reading all of his books.

Summary: Worthwhile Read
Review: This is my first Steve Hamilton book and as an author I enjoyed his often unhero like hero Alex McKnight. Hamilton's word artistry had me cringing at the pain one man can inflict on another and at his apt discription of a cold snow-encrusted winter. I plan to share "Winter of the Wolf Moon" with all of my reading buddies and I look forward to purchasing another Hamilton novel.

Summary: Milodragovich Lite
Review: This is my first Steve Hamilton novel. I liked the Alex McKnight character. Sort of reminds me of James Crumley's Milo Milodragovich--only not quite as much booze and drugs.
