Summary: Love "Sex & the City"? Meet the 'other' Sam Jones
Review: "Black Rubber Dress" is the 2nd title in the Sam Jones series, but it is the first that was available to American readers. Lauren Henderson's Samantha Jones has a lot in common with her namesake from the hit American TV show "Sex & the City"--she's sassy & brash; independent, fearless and armed with a supreme self-confidence that makes her a real man-magnet. Her very short skirts also help.

But her name aside, this Sam Jones reminds me even more of Carrie Bradshaw. Sam IS Carrie--if Carrie lived in a grungy warehouse studio in boho section of London instead of a walk-up in a boho section of New York, and if Carrie made arty sculptures out of industrial metal instead of word-smithing a sex column. Like Carrie, Sam manages to attract all sorts of wrong men?all the more tragic that some of these deadbeats are quite literally . . .dead. In the course of extricating herself from these corpses, Sam gets herself into many scrapes, some hilarious and some life-threatening, but no matter what the situation, she always meets it head-on in a smashing outfit. Armed with her unquenchable chutzpah, sartorial panache and always, always a fabulous pair of shoes, our Sam rises above grim circumstances, and lives to love yet another unsuitable man and stumble across yet another dead body in the next installment.

"Black Rubber Dress" is an excellent introduction to Henderson's gutsy fashion-forward heroine and I guarantee that you will want to read all of Sam's further adventures in her four subsequent books. Regretfully I see that the paperback versions of several titles are currently out-of-print. If a digital download isn't your bag you can always do what I did and snag your copy from one of Amazon's outstanding private booksellers. Let's hope that Sam Jones will be around to entertain us for many years to come. She deserves it?and so do we.

Summary: The Amazing Sam Jones
Review: A mystery-detective novel that will leave you not only wanting more of the same, but many many more Sam Jones novels. She is strong, beautiful, smart and fashion conscience. A page turner for all.

Summary: freeze my margarita
Review: Having read all four of the Sam Jones novels I sort of knew what to expect from Henderson. Whilst her heroine seems to exist in a London most of us don't the narrative moves on swiftly enough to keep the reader gripped. Funny, funky and pure escapism. Jones, whilst being thoroughly human, is just that bit more interesting than the rest of us. And exactly what the hell has Lauren Henderson been doing to her hair?

Summary: A further riposte
Review: I am a fan of the Sam Jones series. All I have to say in response to the reader from Harvard, Illinois who found the book "pointless and boring" is that the same could be said of the reader's town. Lauren Henderson's writing is fresh, energetic and full of witty insights about contemporary metropolitan life. Give it a try.

Summary: Drugs and the Downtown Scene with Sam Jones!
Review: I bought this book on the recommendation of one of my clubbing friends, even though I'm generally not a fan of the murder mystery genre. However; once I started reading this book, I didn't put it down until I was done -- being stuck on a plane might have had something to do with that, but maybe not.

The characters are well developed, and realistically portray 'downtown' urban life. At least, as far I see it. Sam Jones is gritty, sexy.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is curious toenter the mystery genre, and is a little hesitant. The intelligent ,and well written dialogue will draw you into Sam Jones' world of lust, substanc abuse and her little black dress.

Summary: An "edgy" and hip mystery which includes sex and drugs.
Review: I loved Lauren Henderson's book "Black Rubber Dress" but the reader should be aware that the Samantha (Sam) Jones character does induldge in casual sex and casual cocaine use. If you think Janet Evanovich's series with Stephanie Plum is wild, you won't believe Sam Jones!! But Henderson is a very good writer and the action is funny and fast paced. I wanted to read more but her other books are not in print (at least in the US).

Summary: Sexy, hilarious, witty, dark-edged - this book has it all
Review: I simply couldn't put this down. The plot is very clever and Lauren Henderson really knows London well. Her characters are vivid and really well-observed, they stayed in my mind long after I put the book down. The dialogue is brilliant, very witty and streetwise, and Sam Jones is an amazing creation, like Philip Marlowe's sexy, naughty younger sister. Jet-propelled and firing on all cylinders. I'm just about to order Henderson's other Sam Jones books and I can't wait to read them. She is a major talent - girl power to the max. Do yourself a favour, buy this book now and you can say you read her before she became world-famous. Which she will.
