Rating: Summary: fun romp Review: I admit, i was reluctant to read about the barbie doll/teen mom/hairdresser detective, but I am converted. Bubbles is a similar character type to Stephanie Plum and fun to read about. I have one big HOWEVER (which also applies to Stephanie): why does the author want to describe her as dumb? Obviously, she isn't, and obviously, the author isn't; and obviously, she would be boring if she were really dumb. So why tell us that she barely made it out of high school and flunked every course but one at the community college? A character like Bubbles would really be ashamed of such a thing, unless it was explainable by deep post divorce depression, or revenge or something. In short, I am not dumb, the author is not dumb, the reader is not dumb, why try to paint the character as dumb?
Rating: Summary: pale imitation Review: I am a huge fan of Janet Evanovich but I found this book so irritating I ended up throwing it across the room half way through. The main character is entirely unsympathetic, which lets down the whole book, and there are SO many aspects of evenovich's work that has been lifted and surgically implanted into this frankentein that it is embarrassing. I know she acknowledges Janet int he thanks, but it just reads very badly. The lead is constanly being a dope and dressing like a hooker and wondering why no one takes her seriously. Her interactions with men are just embarrassing and it really lends the entire book a sense of pathetic farce. Sorry, I bought this book, determined to love it as much as I do the other great books in this genre but this just didn't cut the mustard. Sorry, Sarah. Nice try, but next time, step further away from everything that makes Janet's books so unique and funny and use your skills to create a new world. This just isn't funny, and remember, we've gotta love that central character, not cringe when men talk to her boobs all the time...
Rating: Summary: Started out a little slow, but................ Review: I did enjoy this book, so much that I ran out to by the second book in the series Bubble in Trouble. As you get into the book and start to know the characters it is very amusing. If you enjoy Janet Evanovich books about Stephanie Plum, you will also enjoy Bubbles!
Rating: Summary: Nice start for a new series. Review: I enjoyed reading about Bubbles, she has a more realistic way of seeing things then StephaniePlum. I know we can compare them, there are some similarities, but their are some differences, one her teenage daughter Jane who will back up her mother and two Stilleto who is me is more devoted to Bubbles than Joe Morelli is to Stephanie. When I first started the book I did not think much of Bubbles- Hairdresser-to trying to become a reporter, but by the end of the book I really started to like her and her circle of friends to me in a way they are more realistic of how a real person starts to become to better themselves and know that they want to do more and help people out. I will be reading her new sequel when it comes out in paperback. Keep on writing Sarah you have potential.
Rating: Summary: A definite winner Review: I had a lot of fun reading this book. Of course, I realize that you have to be in a sort of playful mood to enjoy it, otherwise you would nit pick the probability of the storyline. Majority of the characters are zany, which also makes it fun. All in all, I do highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Bubbles Unbound Review: I had heard about this series on one of my internet groups. They were compared to Stephanie Plum's series which I enjoyed reading greatly.Bubbles Unbound was a good read and I can't wait to read the other 2 books. It was funny but unlike The Plum books they really stick to the story line mystery in the book.Bubbles mother LuLu and her friend Genevieve are really funny.I also enjoyed Bubbles teenage daughter Jane. There were also some funny moments in the beauty shop that Bubbles works in. She is a hairdresser as well as a journalist.Pam
Rating: Summary: Bubbles is a must read! Review: I have a penchant for murder mysteries with strong, quirky characters. I'd already ploughed through all Spenser, Stephanie Plum, Elvis Cole, and Jo Beth Sidden books and was experiencing major withdrawal pains when Bubbles Yablonsky showed up on my bedside table. I highly recommend this very entertaining, suspenseful read with quite the engaging protagonist. Way-to-go, Strohmeyer, for feeding my addiction and crank out more Bubbles, FAST.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good summer reading... Review: I just finished this one about a week ago. I did enjoy it, however I felt that it could have used a little more depth. If you're looking for a good, light, relaxing-on-the-beach type of book, then this one is great. Bubbles is an endearing, lovable character.
Rating: Summary: Don't be fooled, this ain't the real thing Review: I know Stephanie Plum, and Bubbles, you are no Stephanie. Try as I might, I couldn't warm up to this dopey, pale imitation of the truly hilarious Plum books. This book didn't elicit so much as a half-hearted smirk from me. Not funny, no plot, lifeless, unbelievable characters--what a waste of time. The Bubbles in this book are flat, flat, flat.
Rating: Summary: not really that entertaining. Review: I like to read a book when I work out. The measure of a good book is one that makes me forget about working out and that I want to keep reading when I have finished the work out. This book failed on both accounts. Of course I will have to admit to comparing it to Evanovich's books, and this frankly isn't even in the same ballpark, I am sorry to say. I really wanted to like this book. But the ideas were not really new, the characters seemed to copy that of Janet E, and the lines were not as humorous. Stick with Janet.
