Rating: Summary: Great read for those who don't read mystery novels Review: A little slow to start...but once I got going I couldn't put it down. Just enough of everything to keep me interested. Lots of laughs. I will definitely check out Sarah Strohmeyer's next book.
Rating: Summary: Janet Evanovich/Stephanie Plum Wanna-Be Review: After reading this, I decided that this was a Janet Evanovich/Stephanie Plum wanna-be book. The similarities between the main character's was uncanny.....Bubble's mom = Stephanie's grandma Stiletto = Joe Bubbles' mom's friend = Lulu Bubbles' friend = Connie and I could go on and on..... While there will never be another Stephanie Plum, this was another enjoyable quick read that had me chuckling at certain times.
Rating: Summary: Bubbles Unbound, worth checking out, say? Oh Yeah. Say. Review: As the story starts out, the main character, Bubbles Yablonsky, a Barbie look alike, talks about her life, and how she becomes a part time reporter. Bubbles, who also explains her name, works at Sandy's House of Beauty and ends up back at school, which leads her to a story, which leads her to a hunky photographer, who leads her to a body, which starts a dangerous conflict between the rich and the poor of Lehigh, PA. Bubbles sidekicks are her Kool-aid colored hair daughter, Jane; her mother, Lulu, who is a lulu; plus size friend Genevieve; Doris and Sandy from the beauty shop. When Bubbles takes on The Metzgers of Lehigh Steel, she stirs up enough trouble to put her home at risk, but not to worry; Her polish mama is at the ready. Humor and great characters isn't all Sara Strohmeyer has to offer. The mystery is well planned; only straying to the characters' personal lives when it blends in with the story line, whodunit is successfully guarded held until the end, and at the conclusion of each chapter is a beauty recipe.
Rating: Summary: Does Bubbles Keep Her Effervescence Review: Bubbles is indeed a marvelous, believable creation. However, the blatant imitation of Janet Evanovich (the master) is annoying. As one goes on, an occasional line is so well written that one is forced to continue. Overall, Strohmeyer has a long way to go to catch up to Evanovich. The same scene written by JE would have me laughing out loud, but with Strohmeyer it just does not peak dramatically. It is rewarding to see Bubbles ex and his preppie, lying 2nd wife get theirs in the end. And Bubbles does prove to be intelligent, diligent and likable. I will try the second, but not before devouring Evanovich's soon-to-be-available Eighth.
Rating: Summary: Like butta, dahling! Review: Bubbles is my new favorite sleuth, right behind Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter extraordinaire! I was a bit skeptical thinking Bubbles might be a Stephanie Plum ripoff, but it ain't so y'all. Bubbles is her very own woman, foot-high teased hair, trashy dresses, three layers of makeup and all. The story was well written with a fast-paced, riveting plot. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It was tres entertaining and smooth as butta, even to a Dragonfly Princess!! ;-) Keep 'em coming Sarah!!!! I'm eagerly looking forward to Bubbles' next adventure!!
Rating: Summary: Super fun! Review: Bubbles is so much fun. I loved reading this book because it made me laugh and it kept me interested.
Rating: Summary: Fun, Fun, Fun Review: Bubbles Unbound is a rare treat - a book you can read in one sitting. The most unlikely of amateur sleuths, Bubbles is a cosmetologist, part-time reporter, and full-time single mom. The novel is full of fun characters, plot twists, outrageous humor, and even some steamy romance (although Bubbles mostly complains of the lack thereof.) The mystery is never too neatly arranged but no so realistic as to be dull. However, the story is really a wonderful window through which you can behold Bubbles and the wacky cast of supporting players. This wonderful character is someone you can laugh with, rather than AT. I only hope Strohmeyer is already at work on a second novel in this series.
Rating: Summary: Barbie doll sleuth Review: Bubbles Yablonsky hairdresser, trying to make it as a reporter, is absolutely charming! One of the best mysteries I have read! Bubbles has charm, guts, intelligence, and oh is she funny! The mystery is serious but the cast of characters, the wit and humor just made this book a wonderful read. I hated to see it end! Can hardly wait for the next adventure! This book is marvelous! Just a terrific book from every angle.
Rating: Summary: OK book, but tries too hard to be 'Plum Perfect' Review: Had I read this book first without having read the Stephanie Plums at least three or four times, the 'mirroring' of the characters and premise might not have been so obvious. I caught myself losing track of the somewhat weak story line thinking "oh, he's Morelli, here's the Ranger figure and here's Lulu." I found the humor forced in spots and Bubbles a far less appealing character than the original and the secondary characters definitely weak. I don't regret paying hardback price for this debut, but will wait for either a library copy or a paperback for any sequels.
Rating: Summary: Bubbles Unbound Review: How can anyone put this book down? Bubbles is a hilarious single mother, a wonderful hairstylist, and a magnet for trouble. I would compare her to an older, but probably no wiser than Stephanie Plum. Anyone who likes Janet Evanovich should give Sarah Strohmeyer a try!!
