Summary: An action packed book!
Review: I agree that this book is very unrealistic. Although it is a very fictional book, unlike other Op-Center books, this one never seemed to slow down. Tom Clancy is also a very good suspense artist. He always shifts to another scene every chapter leaving you in suspense, wondering about the last chapter. Overall, I found this a very entertaining book that I found hard to put down.

Summary: Buy any other Clancy-book before you get this one.
Review: I have read the complete 'Ryan-series', the other op-centers, and Red storm rising. Among those Acts of war is really the worst. Either Clancy is getting old or he didn't write this. The book describes how a bunch of pros fall for little tricks, how incredible hi-tech almost blows it, and a few Rambos save the world. Appaling torture scenes and a rocket flying through a cave supply the icing on this stale cake. Did I mention the DIY-psychology at the end of the book?

Summary: God, is this horrible!
Review: Hey, I'm as much of a Clancy fan as anyone else (if not more so), having read all of the Ryan books at least twice. But this OpCenter series, which Clancy is only putting his name on for the bucks, is complete garbage. Believe me, this is NOT Clancy, nor anything remotely close. The writing is the pits, the plotting less plausible even than Clancy's usual stuff and the characters two dimensional. As a matter of fact, this book (and the series) are so awful that I can't imagine any reason for anyone ever even attempting to read 'em [sigh]. Save your money for the next real Clancy.

Summary: Tom Clancy has left the building......
Review: Was Tom Clancy even in the room when this book was written? The very first sentence contains a good indicator as to the depth of the research: It's Galaxie, Tom, not Galaxy. The book rockets downhill from there. The "hero" of the story, Gen. Mike Rodgers, is a complete idiot (yes, he's the embodiment of the classical definition: diminished capacity for self protection and relies on the charity of others to sustain his existance) who is solely responsible for all the hardships his hokey "team" endures. A successful novel relies on the "suspension of disbelief": the terrorists disable the ROC by stuffing a rag in the tailpipe? That might work on the 1963 "Galaxy" (as long as the muffler system was rotted and hanging by a thread and the vehicle was parked in a closed garage)but I can't see it working on a multi-million dollar piece of U.S. Gubmint equipment. I guess they don't grow potatoes in Turkey; that's what we used as kids to stall cars (although to my knowledge no one ever passed out as a result). This novel had fair to good high-tech components, but they really blew it on some of the low-tech. My final question: What is the strategic interest of the U.S. Government in letting this pathetic, incompetent group of losers run around in a powder keg region of the world? I guess I missed that part because in 492 pages, I could not detect any purpose for this book other than to desecrate Tom Clancy's formidible reputation. I would recommend the book to friends only out of sheer disbelief that it bears his name.

Summary: Main plot has many logical flaws
Review: This was my first Clancy novel. I was a little bit dissappointed. Although ornated with some nice intelligence details, the main plot has many flaws at critical points. The fact that only two Turkish soldiers were defending the border-post where the terrorists broke in and the way the dam gets sabotaged sounded all unrealistic to me.

Summary: WOW! GET IT AND LET IT GET YOU
Review: I read this book not knowing what to expect. I have never read Clancy. I heard he was good so I got the book based on the subject matter. I was blown away by the story. It was tight, kept you on the edge of your seat, and would not let you go. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good modern spy story. You writing style will make you turn the next page to find out what happened.

Summary: Not on the level of Tom Clancy's ussual excellance
Review: Op Center entirely lacks what we have all come to expect from Tom Clancy: intriguing plot, detailed, believable background and characters. The technical gaffs are numerous. At the center of the story is a computer game company who eclipse their competition by stealing a chip design. The company then publishes their game on the Web to give it broad exposure. Does the author understand the difference between hardware and software? The plot suffers just as badly from poor understanding. A field officer, described as an expert, needs to gather information on suspected terrorists. Does he develop a plan to do this? Does he set up surveillance or perform a background investigation? Does he seek the assistance of other agents? No, no and no! Alone and without a plan he just rolls his wheelchair into the suspects' beer bash. A little later, after barely surviving an attempt on his life, he chases the suspects with no weapon or assistance. It appears that the author intends for us to be impressed by his bravado, rather then his stupidity. The obvious conclusion is that Clancy's co-author wrote this book without much assistance, and to much lower standards

Summary: Hmm... Probably the worst Clancy book yet.
Review: Clancy's new Op-Centre novel "Acts of War" is not anywhere near his preceeding works. The misinformed rhetorical questions and prejudicial dialogs he created are outright awful. The book lacks the most basic knowledge of geography, language, culture and economics of the region that the plot takes place. Believe me, I know... because I live there. It was like reading a fantasy novel. Maybe his co-author was responsible for the research? In any case, a big disappointment for Clancy fans. :-(

Summary: What can you expect from a colaboration?
Review: This book can been seen as entertaining at best- but if you are a true Clany fan, prepare to be disappointed. There is none of the normal breathtaking player movements that are usually present in other Clancy novels. In the back of your mind, you always think "Yeah, right, it could happen, sure." You can definitely tell from reading that there is someone else besides Clancy involved in the writing of this book

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Clancy does it again (what else is new?)!!
Review: Hmm, not as good as Op Center or Mirror Image but none the less, an excellent read. As the story unfolds, you begin to notice that you've grown attached to the characters in the book... Totally remarkable
