Summary: It was alright
Review: In what seemed like a lifetime, I finally finished, "A Do Right Man." I will admit, I grew quite attached to the main character, Bobby Dallas, but it became increasingly difficult to finish the book. Overall, I found it quite interesting to learn about love and life from a man's perspective. We do need to have more books like these from author Omar Tyree and E. Lynn Harris.

Summary: It was Aiight, nothing to brag about.
Review: This was the first book I read by this author. It had so much promise in the beginning.

Maybe it's me but it appears to me that at the end of the book Mr.Tyree noticed he was down to his last 7 sheets of paper and had to wrap it up ASAP. Get my drift?

In addition to that the main character was a wuss. He was way to soft. Now HE was someone who needed to see the Wizard of Oz to get an immunization against being a wuss.

Summary: THE UNDERSTANDING OF A MAN
Review: THIS BOOK WAS A GREAT BOOK. TYREE SHOWS US THAT WOMEN ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO GOES THROUGH PAIN. MEN DO THE SAME. HE SHOWS YOU THAT EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES ESPECIALLY MEN. WHEN IT COMES TO DECISONS MEN CAN HAVE A HARD TIME AS WELL AS WOMEN. THIS BOOK IS THE GREATEST ANYONE CAN RELATE TO THIS BOOK.

Summary: What was all the hype about?
Review: The introduction was okay, but totally misleading raising my expectation of the story a little too high. By the second chapter I was sorely tempted to put the book to one side. It wasn't that it didn't have a good storyline, it did, it was just how it was written, too much detail on areas of no relevance i.e. type of drink, and after a while it seemed like the author had digressed and kept struggling to get back to the plot. It started getting better towards the end of the story, but for me that was too little too late. Omar Tyrees' other novel 'Flyy Girl' was recommended to me, as I couldn't get hold of it in time I picked this one, I'm still going to give it a second try and get my original choice and see how that goes.

Summary: Slow But Not Bad
Review: This is the second book that I read by Omar Tyree and I will say that it was better written and had a lot less cursing in it than Flyy Girl but the plot moved along very slowly. Omar told an intesting story of how Bobby Dallas climbs the ladder in the radio industry while having to "watch his back" from some of the other people in the radio business. The other sub plot involved his feelings for Faye, the lady in his life that he let get away after falling for another woman (Pearl). I found the book worth reading but parts of the book just seemed to drag on taking away from the overall enjoyment of the book.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: Granted, this novel deserves props because it centers a GOOD black man--something African Amercian fiction, and society in general--seem to avoid. The subject matter is fine. It is the book itself that disappointed me. I'm not even going to compare it to his better novel, Flyy Girl, because the mark of a good writer is being able to write about different topics. But "A Do Right Man" seemed to be lacking something. Perhaps it is depth. I mean, Bobby's whole basis on becoming a man stemmed from his career and relationships with women. His situation with his disapproving mother is glossed over in favor for his love life. The old (and effective) writing tool "show, don't tell" isn't used at all. We can tell Bobby is successful; there's no need for the author to spell it out. We can tell Bobby has bad luck with women; we don't need that spelled out, either. There isn't any descriptions of settings; in fact, there is a great lack of description of any kind. And yes, Bobby has career struggles, but they last about the length of two pages. And his relationship with Faye pre-Pearl is so short lived, how are the readers supposed to feel bad when their friendship breaks down? Sure, we are told that they were close, but it's hard to believe considering we never get to see it and decide for ourselves. My imagination was so inactive during this book. It is not one of those "can't put down" reads. I had to force myself to finish it just because I paid for it. It is a tedious read. More like "can't pick up!"

Summary: Finally, how Black Men really think
Review: The character of Bobby was definitely one of the more recognizable characters I've seen in a book. He is intelligent, yet lacks confidence and the drive to really get what he wants.

Not only in his relationships, but also in his career, he takes a back seat and just watches what happens. It's when he finally takes control and defines his goals, things start to happen.

Bobby Dallas is truly a portrait of a "good black man." Someone who agonizes over his mistakes, and ultimately doesn't like to rock the boat.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a decent read. If you are looking for a typical sistahgurlplot, you will be a little disappointed. This mostly a study in character.

Summary: "Got To Read it"
Review: "A Do Right Man" was a great book! I couldn't stop reading! Bobby was the man thru out the WHOLE book just like in real life you have your ups and downs with careers and relationships. I guess I can really relate because I've been divorced for 3 yrs now and haven't found that "Soul Mate" yet and I think about past relationships that I let slip right on by! So, Omar keep up the good work about the good single men that are still out there and for now I'm getting ready to read "Single Mom" which that I am. GOOD LUCK!

Summary: Great Book
Review: This book is great. I met Omar at a book signing and I said let me buy the book for support and I will read it in the future or when I got a chance. Well I started the book that night and I could not put it down. I'm not sure what it was, but I identified with the characters. I fully support any book Omar creates.

Summary: Good Read
Review: This book was certainly worth my time to read it and the money . The character of Bobby Dallas was somewhat realistic and I think that most women have come across someone like him intheir life the good guy who usually gets no play, but you know that he will treat you the way you would like or at least claim you want to be treated but in this book the good guy seems to come out on top. Definitely a good follow up to Flyy girl.
