Rating: Summary: WHAT A BOOK!!!! Review: It has been a very long time since I have been fortunate enough to read such an excellent book about African-American males. Omar Tyree is a great writer and this book really speakes to the community. I think he should keep up the great work and continue to write some more great books like this!!!!
Rating: Summary: Nuff respect for this book. Great stuff!!! Review: I bought this book probably about five years ago and have not regretted it since. In this novel, as in most of his novels, Tyree does not fail to make it riveting and entertaining. This is a book that you just cannot put down until you have reached the end and i literally "gobbled" it up when I started reading it. Since then I've read it three times...its so good. Tyree's characters are always real and you learn something from them. A lot of women would be interested in how men think and why they do the things they do and Tyree's main character, Bobby Dallas offers some great enlightenment...he helps resolve some of the mystery and shows us that we need to really take some time to understand the "brothers". So ladies, read this book and learn something about men. We could all do with the help.
Rating: Summary: It's okay. Review: I loved Flyy Girl, so I was expecting more from Tyree's second novel. Instead I found a generic, the-one-who-got-away type read. I didn't particularly like or care about the main character, so it was difficult to get into the book. It actually put me off of Tyree's work, and I haven't read any of his since. So don't read this, if it's your first Omar Tyree. Read Flyy Girl.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: not many books get my stamp of aproval but this book really deserved it. this was one of the first african american books that i read. it was real written, not too man hard to understand words and it made sense. i can relate to it. the fact that Bobby Dallas passed up a perfectly good woman for a more flamboyant one is something we see everyday. for all you love fanatics out there, he ends up with the right woman. omar tyree you are indeed a genius and are one of the best in the game. along with you joins micheal baiden and eric jerome dickey. i would recommend this book for anyone who is skeptical about black books. this is sure to turn you on to them pretty quickly.
Rating: Summary: What's not to like about this man Review: Bobby Dallas is a hard working man who makes all efforts to do the right thing. Bobby faces career challenges and dating obstacles. Despite what is happening in his life, Bobby is on that quest for the right woman who will love and appreciate all that he gives to a relationship. This is a well written book with a plot that keeps you entertained.
Rating: Summary: Slow Start, Slow Ending Review: After reading Sweet St. Louis and Flyy Girl, I couldn't wait to read a Do Right Man. I was real disappointed after reading a Do Right Man, it was a very slow book. I started it then I put it down for three months and picked it back up to finish. The only reason I finished it was because I don't like to start a book without finishing it. This is not one of Omar Tyree's best books.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: After hearing so much about Mr. Tyree, I was anxious to start on the novel as soon as I got home from the bookstore. Unfortunately, about 3 chapters into the book, I was already disappointed in what I was reading. The author has no real lyrical style and his dialouge was mundane. Since the majority of the book was dialouge, it was extremely slow reading for me. All in all, a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK Review: Well, after reading Flyy Girl i was compelled to look for more of Omar's work. The title of the book really took me by surprise, but the thickness of its content really discouraged me from reading. I'm a straight to the point, type of woman, but I decided to give it a chance. When I started reading it all my friends were like you are too young to be reading a book with this title. I'm looking at them like, you can never be too young to read about reality. To me, Bobby Dallas represents a goal oriented brother, with a heart of gold, looking for his soulmate. All of his actions taught him a valuable lesson and I was really pleased with how he described the different women. His descriptions made me laugh because theres different types of women/men and he definately touched base with this. The ending, crucial. I was glad Faye & him got together but at the same time, it didn't come as a surprise to me. I was't disappointed in the ending, but I didn't like it being obvious. Faye represented all the qualities of a good woman, and she was the perfect mate which was why it was all to easy to figure out. I'd like for him to follow up on a part 2!
Rating: Summary: A Do Good Book Review: OK, I've read all of Omar's books and though some are disappointing--especially For the love of Money--I think some of the people are a bit too hard on the brother. I think this was one of his better books. As a woman, it was refreshing to read about a man who was basically a good guy. He didn't have the confidence and he made some bad choices, but guess what? He's not the first guy nor will he be the last to do so. It was actually refreshing to read about a man who didn't have the confidence but didn't fake it by being cold or what we like to label men as most, a dog. He didn't go around making other women pay for Pearl's abuse--which was also refreshing. Bobby just needed to grow up in his own time and he did that. I enjoyed this book. Bobby Dallas was a good character and despite the opinions of other reviewers I think Omar's descriptions are part of his appeal. He truly gives you a feel for Bobby and his experiences. I don't know, love Omar Tyree or hate him, I think this was a good book.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down... Review: This is the first novel I have read by Omar Tyree and I must say this brother can write. I just couldn't put it book down!! In the today's society it is so common for brothers and sisters to function like Bobby Dallas. To strive so hard to succeed, invest so much time and energy in our careers that we often let opportunities of love pass us by. Omar's writing style is brilliant. The depth of the emotion that is carried by Bobby Dallas is captivating. Good work Omar Tyree!
