Summary: A Great Mystery.....with a great bookstore setting!
Review: After just picking up the book and starting to read (not knowing about the series) I was quite suprised. The story was almost like a Nancy Drew mystery in a way. The characters each had their own little quirks and were likeable in their own ways. I fell in love with Death on Demand Bookstore (something I would love to have being a seller myself). This isn't a series for the serious mystery reader (like the ones with quite a bit of blood and bodies laying everywhere with cops or detectives). It's a light mystery that can pass a summer day away. I can't wait to work on the rest of the series.

Summary: Well, every author has a miss sometimes...
Review: Although I generally greatly enjoy Hart's books, I was disappointed in this one. If fact, I put it down to read something else and almost forgot to return to it. The story was mildly interesting, however, there were several different "mini-plots" that detracted from the whole. The story never got moving and there was no sense of suspense. To be honest, I was irritated by the ending, not satisfied as I usually am. And PLEASE, get rid of Laurel! She has to be the most obnoxious character I've ever read about. A little (very little!) of Laurel goes a long way. Also, Max has turned into a mindless playboy who reminds me of a big St. Bernard with Annie as his trainer. The earlier Death on Demand mysteries were far superior. I am hoping to have more like those to read soon. And no, adding a pregnancy will not help this series.

Summary: Unique style
Review: Annie and Max are back again in this Carolyn Hart mystery. After reading The Triumph and the Glory I was ready for some lighter fare and greatly enjoyed Yankee Doodle Dead. I'm a big Mary Higgins Clark fan and usually stick to her novels when I'm in the mood for a mystery but Hart is very entertaining in her own way. Some people don't care for her but I love her touch. Thanks Carolyn, good job.

Summary: A"Darling"book
Review: Brigadier General (R) Charleton "Bud" Hatch moves to the resort town of Broward's Rock, South Carolina. The brusque general is immediately unpopular among the laidback islanders, who refuse to kowtow to his constant orders and demands. Someone resented the retired officer more stongly than anyone else because Bud is murdered during the Fourth of July celebration.

Annie Laurence Darling, owner of the Death on Demand Mystery Bookstore, is looking forward to spending some time with her beloved spouse Max. However, solving the case of who killed the extremely disliked Bud becomes priority number one for the couple. Gently, they ask questions of the seemingly unlimited number of natives, who wanted the general dead, to ascertain who will actually committed the deed.

Yankee Doodle Dead, the tenth novel in the "Death on Demand" mystery cozy series, is a splendid regional who-done-it that will be totally adored by fans of Southern atmospheric murder tales. The atmosphere of the Carolina barrier island feels genuine, almost as if readers are on a vacation there. The characters, especially the dynamic lead duo, add depth and charm to an entertaining story. Placing all that in a well structured mystery leaves readers with a great treat, compliments of Carolyn Hart.

Summary: Annie & Max are the modern Nick and Nora Charles
Review: How fun to have the Darlings back, as well as Broward's Rock and all its eccentric inhabitants. I agree with the reader from Ohio, once again this series is so endearing I found myself reading slowly to enjoy every bit, Broward's Rock and Death on Demand are hard places to leave!

Summary: My first experience w/this author - and probably my last.
Review: I am a fan of the mystery books - and enjoy everything from Murder on the Orient Express to N is for Noose.

However, the constant references to other stories, detectives, and characters in Yankee Doodle Dead, was enough to make me put the book down - several times.

I hate leaving a book unread once I've begun - so I just finished it - but doubt seriously I will read any more of Hart's works.

I think this is a boring read, and although other of her books might be riveting, this one certainly wasn't.

Summary: why the lists of books?
Review: I buy the Annie and Max books, but I skip over the interminable book lists the author includes every few pages. If she wants to recommend other mysteries, how about putting the lists at the end, when they don't distract from the book. If she is just padding the word count, tsk tsk.

Summary: Please send Annie's mother-in-law on a very long vacation.
Review: I enjoy Carolyn Hart's mysteries, but Laurel is getting very annoying and boring. I enjoy the references to other mystery writers and the rest of her characters are usually well-written. One other minor complaint, please stop the cutesy pie allusions to Annie and her hubby when they're about to "get intimate." Puhleeze, it's just too juvenile for words.

Summary: Absolutely "Darling"!
Review: I have been waiting with bated breath for the newest adventure of my favorite bookstore proprietor and her husband, "Joe Hardy all grown up and sexy as..."! Once again, Ms. Hart has not disappointed!! For true mystery lovers, the references to other authors and their titles are wonderful. I try to choose at least one of the "spotlighted" mysteries to add to my collection. I only wish I could join the citizens of Broward's Rock.
