Summary: Very, very good
Review: I have to agree with readers who felt that this book was not long enough, who felt that the characters (with the exception of Marc... yum!) were underdeveloped, and that the novel was just too short.

That said, Linda Howard still penned a taut thriller. It was not as rich as DREAM MAN but it had suspense and an interesting a-typical villain. I'm not giving anything away by saying that the villain is a politician (Howard lets us in on that up front); what's a-typical about him is that Senator Lake has good qualities. He loves his family, personally cares for his invalid father, and is saddened that due to his father's condition he'll never know if his father is proud of him. And he's rotten to the core. All the good in him is corrupted and twisted by a sick evil that warps the good so that the good is no longer good but evil as well. This is not a typical portrait of a villain in romantic suspense novels. It's a portrait of a three-dimensional human being. Would that Karen, Detective Shannon, and John Medina had been given the same attention to the development of their characters.

I look forward to John Medina's story. I hope it's longer and richer than KILL AND TELL and brings back Marc and Karen for encore performances... especially Marc!

Summary: One of Howard's Best!
Review: If you're new to Linda Howard, or even a hesistant-romance reader, this is definitely the book to cut your teeth on! Howard pays great attention to detail in describing her characters-- the dark world of an ex-sniper, the life of an ER nurse, the nuts and bolts of being a detective, and she brings to life the steamy atmosphere of New Orleans. If you're not a romance reader you can still appreciate the suspense and mystery. I gave it to my husband when I finished reading it (he disdains romance) and even he enjoyed it. The main characters are both admirable and people you cheer for to get together, and when they do the smoke wafts from the pages! Once into this book I did not put it down until I was finished-at 2:20 am!

Summary: Exciting, suspenseful, sexy............
Review: I'm not sure what book people were reading who didn't like this book. I thought it was wonderful, although it could have been a little longer. I loved the Marc Chastain character (I don't usually like the Alpha Male type, but I would be willing to learn with Marc) and I liked Karen just fine.

I would agree that I would definitely love to have a book featuring John Medina. Please, Ms. Howard, give us that book next. I loved your new book, but was disappointed that it wasn't John's story.

However, any Linda Howard novel is just fine with me. She ranks right up there with my other keepers - Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood, Judith McNaught, Dinah McCall. Keep up the good work and thanks from a very happy devoted reader.

Summary: Not up to her usual standard
Review: Linda Howard rarely dissapoints but this book was definately the exception to the rule. Don't get me wrong, the story itself was quite good and it wasn't sluggish to read but the spark just wasn't there. I think the reason this book has received such mixed reviews is because we all expect such a high standard out of this author. This book is well worth reading still and if you don't expect too much out of it you should have a pleasant if not overly stimulating read.

Summary: All of Ms Howard's books are very good and exciting.
Review: This one is right up there on the to get list. It has the romance, suspense and even mystery. A little something for everyone.

Summary: Linda Howard can do better
Review: I agree with previous reviewers that it just wasn't LH's standard. The guy is a stud, the woman is a dud -- but my biggest problem was the underdeveloped characters of the bad guys. I felt that I never got to know them, and by the end of the book I could still barely tell them apart.

Summary: Cannot believe the people who did not like this book
Review: I cannot believe the people who did not like this book. I thought it was very good. The characters were good, the story was good. What was there about the book NOT TO LIKE. I think it was well worth the money I spent.

Summary: An excellent read--strong characters, good plot!
Review: I'm hooked on Linda Howard! I didn't think I would find another author who writes such entrancing stories (I'm also a Nora Roberts junkie). The main characters are strong, sexy, and smart. The plot is an excellent blend of romance , mystery, and suspense. Howard explores the thoughts and feelings of her characters in more detail than Roberts. Some might think it boring, but I thought it was excellent insight. The whole book was a pleasure to read, I couldn't put it down!!

Summary: Not her best, but still a Linda Howard
Review: One of my favourit things about Linda Howard's books is that she nearly always has an epilogue. I think closure is important and leaves the reader with a happy satisfied feeling. This book is too short and did not have enought time to develop its characters. I think Marc and Karen had a lot of potential that was not used. Because of this, the book desperately needed closure. I hope we can see Linda Howard at her best soon.

Summary: author is capable of much better than this
Review: I have read a number of Linda Howard books and waited impatiently for the publication of this one. What a disappointment! The characters and plot were very underdeveloped and the book, in general, was boring. Linda Howard is an excellent author and is capable of much better works than this book. Linda, please write us a worthy successor to "Son of the Morning" and "Dream Man"!!
