Rating: Summary: The best book you will read!!!! Review: Domain is one of the greatest novels ever written. Steve Alten is a genius. This book has everything that someone could ever want in a book plus more. Great characters, brilliant story, and amazing facts are all blended in a smooth and seamless way that works out perfectly. 5 stars isn't enough!!! I would recommend that everyone imediately buy this incredible book. You will be left speechless. When the Domain trilogy is complete, it will put trilogies like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars to shame. I would also recommend Steve Alten's other two books, MEG and The Trench. They are both incredible as well.
Rating: Summary: Domain - Another Winner For Steve Alten Review: I have been a fan of Steve Alten's since I read his first book "Meg" back in 1997. I am a huge lover of sharks, and that is what first attracted me to this book. I was very impressed after reading it, so when "The Trench" was released of course I was anxious to buy it and start reading, needless to say I was equally impressed. I recently finished reading Steve Alten's latest book "Domain", and I just had to write and tell you what an excellent novel this is. Like Steve's first two books "Meg" and "The Trench", "Domain" puts the reader right in the story. It reads just like a movie, and Steve's incredible research and attention to detail make this a book you just can't put down. If you are a fan of Steve Alten I highly recommend you pick up "Domain" if you don't already have it. If you are not familiar with Steve's work, and are looking for a real page turner, then this is definately the book for you. I have read a sneak preview of "Resurrection" which is the sequal to "Domain" and I am anxiously awaiting it's release sometime next year. It promises to be just as exciting. If Steve keeps writing them, I'll keep reading them. They just keep getting better and better. Congratulations Steve, and good luck with your next book. Diane Tanner.
Rating: Summary: domain Review: I thought this was the best book i ever read
Rating: Summary: Would Make A Great Spielberg Movie Review: Have not read any of Steve Alten's books before, but I will now! This was a great story. Alten merges fact and fiction so well, that I've been looking up things on the internet to try and sort it out. Looking forward to the sequel. This has GOT to be a movie!

Rating: Summary: A Page-Burner! Review: Steve Alten's recent novel, DOMAIN, is a page-burner! You burn the pages, trying to get to the next one fast enough. The action is intense and the characterizations are as sharp as a pin, even though the main character has been confined to a mental institution for eleven years! The reader runs the risk of spanning the entire emotional gamut in reading Alten's DOMAIN. Alten's approach to the Mayan calendar and its foreboding end-of-cycles date of December 21, 2012 (that year's Winter Solstice) is as compelling an explanation as you will ever find. His fanciful blend of fact and fiction makes for thoroughly enjoyable reading. (I bought the book on a Saturday, and I finished it on Monday--if that's any indication.) The locales are so convincing that I thought I was back at Chichén Itzá in the Yucatán all over again. Although 65 million years is an awfully long time for the Mayan god Tezcatilpoca to remain in stasis under the Chicxulub Crater, its awakening and the ensuing devastation are credible extensions of the premise which Alten has researched so thoroughly throughout Mexico, Central and South America. The film adaptation promises to chill the viewer to the bone.
Rating: Summary: DOMAIN - LOSES THE MOMENTUM! Review: I have been a big fan of Steve Alten's books MEG and THE TRENCH so I dove into DOMAIN ready for an exciting tale. In the first 250 pages or so Alten does not disappoint. The amount of research in the novel is astounding. I loved the fact that I didn't know what was real and what had been "doctored" for the sake of the storyline. Alten mixes in research, the journal of explorer scientist Julius Gabriel, and the adventures of Michael Gabriel together nicely to keep the story moving at a staggering pace. The scenes involving Michael in the asylum (and the potential for escape) were my favorites. So why only 2 Stars? Well...Domain takes a serious stumble in the last 50 pages or so. What started off as a great storyline devloves into a series of cliches that if you read or watch movies you will be able to identify all too easily: nuclear war (aborted at the last second), a giant monster that is very 'B' Movie-like in description, dream sequences (do people ever dream like this in the real world), and a climax that leaves a lot to be desired. After all of his adventures, when the main character reaches the ending...he basically just stumbles around and lets others guide him along, it certainly would have been nice to see the portagonist handle something on his own. The antagonists are also let off way too easily in this novel, robbing the reader of the "pay-off". By the way, why is it that characters in books or movies always have twins when they are impregnated...after that one-time only romantic encounter? Of course, these same parents also have that special "mental bond" with said progeny. Oh yeah, and the story doesn't end here...or at all. Instead we end with a sequel blurb on the last page. That really robs you of any feelings of completion. Kudos for Mr. Alten for all of the work he put into this story (especially the first 250 pages), and hopefully in the future he'll avoid the easy ending and the highway to clicheville and give us an original ending worthy of his efforts.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Steve Alten does it again! Review: so the first alten book that i read was meg. im a huge shark fan and it was a lot of fun to read (even if you aren't one). then i of course picked up a copy of the trench which which was definitely a worthy sequel. but when domain came out i was optimistic. "no more shark books?". but it was great. the facts were amazing and every chapter got more and more intense. a real page turner. i was very satisfied and with resurrection soon to come out, i can't wait. buy this book!
Rating: Summary: As the clock ticks... Review: Back in the summer of 2000, I read "MEG - A Novel of Deep Terror", in three days. I had never been so intrigued, scared, and into a book before. I could not put this one down. When I saw in the book store his new book, "The Trench," I had to get it, and again, I became hooked through the same fears of the mammoth white shark known as the Megaladon. In a matter of 6 days, I had found one of the best suspense/horror novelists of the new millenium. By chance, I found his site online ... and thought I'd share my thoughts with him. Today, it's turned into a great online friendship and I thought the Megaladon was all he wrote. Boy was I wrong! He told me about his new book DOMAIN and gave me insight into the story. I don't think I've ever read such rich background on a subject that intertwines with it's plot. He takes you into the world of the ancient Mayan civilization and wraps you up in it's mystery of the 2012 winter solstice, December 21, the end of the world. You become the characters and feel their fears in the present day as the luminous date approaches. Just remember this is only fiction...or is it??? After turning the last page and closing my eyes to see the light, I sometimes wonder if what he says can be true. Was it really an asteroid that hit Earth or could it be...???? Forget about Darwin! Forget you heard of the "Big Bang Theory!" This tells his vision of the beginning of human life on Earth, leaving you spellbound till the last page wondering if the beginning of the end is what you just closed and put back on your shelf waiting...waiting...waiting...until December 21, 2012. The countdown begins...read it...before it's too late!!!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down!! Review: If you like science fiction/science fact doomsday adventures, this book's for you. Mr. Alten does a great job researching this book and weaving a tale about the Mayan doomsday lore. He keeps you guessing and flipping pages to find out what happens next. He combines historical facts and myths, adventure, suspense, and romance to tell an on the edge of your seat story, that could turn out to be true! I read this book in one day. I can't wait for the next book in the series. If you like Michael Crichton, Carl Sagan, Tom Clancy or movies such as Independence Day, Mission to Mars and Contact, you'll love this book.
