Rating: Summary: Worth reading - Very exciting! Review: So far all of Steve Alten's books have been getting better. From Meg to the Trench to now Doman - all of these are exciting reads. Domain is like an Indiana Jones adventure with fact-based science out of a Michael Crichton book. The book is very exciting and really interesting keeps you turning the pages. Although the resolution could have been better, but was appropriate given the subject matter. Still, do yourself a favor and read Domain ( and Meg and the Trech as well)!
Rating: Summary: Wow... Review: With Meg and Trench, Alten was criticised by some readers who didn't like the "lack of research" or "shallow characters". I never agreed with those remarks. But I think those who don't like Alten for whatever reason need to find a new angle for this one.First thing to note: The style. That is impressive. It is the usual novel style, with one major distinction: NO past tense. I don't know why he picked that form, but it is impressive. Second: Bush, Putin, go buy a copy of this book, read it, then sit down and discuss arms control. No more nukes. Yeah, it's that powerful. The apocayliptical part of the has two parts. ET and non ET. And non ET is scary. The characters are very powerful, and quite complex, you can't find fault with them. I don't have the space to sketch the details of even one, so you simply have to read it. As far as the research, it is painstaking, and there is so much real information and other things woven into it that you really can't NOT believe that it could be real. Alten covers everything very well, from military equipment to ancient myth, and as far as I can tell, there aren't any errors. There are some extreme jabs thrown in, especially one at mental institutions and what they do to people. As sickening as some of that is, it isn't far of the mark either. Is DOMAIN just a soap box? Hardly. You can't ignore some of the issues it raises, but you aren't beaten over the head with them either. The fiction and reality blend extremely well, partially because if you know something about ancient cultures, a great deal of that is known to be true. Overall, this is a strong recommend. I don't have any issue with any of it.
Rating: Summary: Alten does it again... Review: Some were skeptical. I mean, after writing 'Meg' and 'The Trench', how could Steve Alten change themes so substantially and make 'Domain' just as good as his first two spectacular books? Well, he didn't reach the level of his first two books...he far surpassed it! This book has it all! I mean, Alten puts together Aliens, Space, Mayan Prophecies, and even some underwater adventure. You may think it's a bit of a stretch...but this is fiction based around real-life facts. It's truly an interesting novel. I reccomend this book to anyone and everyone. I do not care whether you think you will hate it....read it anyway....cause you'll end up loving it!
Rating: Summary: This author is hot Review: Domain has to be one of the best novels I have read in the past half century of reading! Steve Alten has meticulously researched his subject and has cleverly interwoven fact with fiction to produce a tour de force in adventure/sci fi literature. On the surface, the story could so easily be mistaken as a von Daniken fairytale spinoff. But this is no fairytale adventure. The son of a late, world-renowned, archaeologist holds the key to the mysterious ruins of Chichen Itza, the Egyptian Pyramids, Angkor Wat and the Nazca Plains. And the Doomsday Prophesy of the Mayan Calendar. Never hear of the latter? This book will make the events predicted to occur on December 21st, 2012 frighteningly real. Alten has crafted his story so finely, ably supporting his narrative with a cast of strong, well-developed characters, that the reader is effortlessly drawn into the nailbiting, chilling, breathless, believably real quest by his lead characters to forestall the end of humanity. Domain will make a blockbusting movie but read the book first and buy your copy today!
Rating: Summary: Domain by Steve Alten Review: A superb, page turner of a novel. This work was so well researched and the story so well constructed that Alten is a shoo-in to win many auther's awards. I can't wait for the next book to come out. Thanks you for many hours of enjoyment, Mr. Alten
Rating: Summary: DOMAIN: Fact is scarier than Fiction Review: When I first read DOMAIN I was magnetized to the book from the starting pages. Actually, I read the book in only two sittings. It has a very well written plot and is extremely well researched. My suggestion is to look up further information about the Mayan calendar and prophecies after reading DOMAIN. You will be shocked! Steve Alten is one of my favourite authors and he certainly delivers in this novel. As I told Mr. Alten in an e-mail, the only problem with this book is that the second book in the trilogy isn't written yet! I am anxiously awaiting for the story to continue as I am sure you all will after reading DOMAIN. "The facts in DOMAIN are scarier than the fiction," wrote Steve Alten in a fan club update... and oh how right he was! This book is a must read; it may very well prepare you for the things to come!
Rating: Summary: Keeps you up through the night!! Review: Intelligent, well researched and very entertaining writing is the way I would describe Steve Alten's book Domain. It has taken the great story telling of Meg and the Trench and man's fascination with the end of the world theories that are rife through out all cultures. I really hope they make films of all his books soon. This is the first of a trilogy (something I think the author should have kept to himself) as the book stands up its own with its thorough research and great plot. A true story written by a great storyteller.
Rating: Summary: Wow! What a thriller.....uh....Hollywood? Review: What can I say? I'm not usually an avid reader, but after Steve Alten's "Meg" and "The Trench," I was more than excited to pick "Domain" up. I spent my time reading this on a plane from Pittsburgh to San Francisco and back, and even leaving the house to go out to the quiteness of the hayfields to finish it up. The book was so intense that I sometimes forgot that I was reading fiction. From the great (un)explained wonders of the world, the Mayan Calender, and to the Journals of Professor Julius Gabriel, I was convinced and terrified about the outcome. Thank the Lord for the characters Dominique and Mick. Steve Alten has to be one of the most talented and intellectual of all authors. He has really done his research and it is uniquely presented in this fine piece of work.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: After reading "Meg" and "The Trench" I anxiously awaited the release of "Domain". I wasn't disappointed. Alten weaves his story to include love story, adventure, and sci-fi. What more could a person ask for? I highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to just relax and let their imagination run wild. Follow Mick and Dominique into a world of ancient history, evil politicians, and aliens. After reading this book, I felt like "Oliver" from the Dicken's novel. "Please Sir, can I have some more?"
Rating: Summary: Amazing... one of if not the best books I've ever read! Review: For the longest time if someone asked me what my favorite book was I would tell them "Meg, hands down." Leave to the author of my favorite book, to write an even better one... Domain is one of those great books, with great characters, and a great amount of research going into it, that leaves you wanting more when you finish it. Upon opening to the first page I was captivated... and the next I knew... I was done reading what I truly feel is the best book I've ever read. Steve Alten has written another masterpiece. Now if only someone would make movies of Meg and Domain... The Trench would be nice too... but I didn't enjoy that book as much as the other two.
