Review: (Alten) singlehandedly out does Benchley, Crichton, Clancy, and Cussler combined. DOMAIN is a riveting and terrifying excursion into Mayan mythology and Old Testament prophecy. A white knuckle nail biter of the highest caliber...Gary S. Potter Author/Poet

Summary: GOOD, BUT.....
Review: I have mixed feelings about this latest book from "Meg/Trench" author Steve Alten. Obviously, the man has done a tremendous amount of research focusing on ancient Mayan/Incan legends, and his story utilizes these legends intricately. However, there is so much information to absorb, that at times, the plot seems to move at a snail's pace, and your interest wanes. At those points, though, Alten brings you back into the plot with several jolting sequences.

The character of Michael Gabriel is an interesting one, and he is geared for future adventures, as evidenced in the announcement of the sequel to this book, "Resurrection." Dominique Vasquez, the romantic interest, is also fairly interesting, although the development of her character seems more plot-motivated then sincere.

The portrayal of the world's leaders ready to engage in nuclear weaponry is chilling in istelf. The connection between all the ancient pyramids, etc., is fascinating and does make one wonder about the December 21, 2012 date.

A good read, I guess I was wanting a little more suspense and action.

Summary: Alten Does It Again....
Review: Steve Alten the writer of 2 other pehnominal books (Meg and The Trench) has done it again with Domain. He weaves fact and fiction together brilliantly. The ancient civilization of Mayan's gave a prohecy thousands of years ago saying the earth will end on December 21st, 2012. The end is at hand as December 2012 nears and it is up to one man to stop it. Michael "mick" Gabriel will discover the secrets of the universe with many dangers along the way. I reccomend this book to anybody who wants a great suspensful read.

Summary: Great Gift Idea...
Review: Domain has a chilling, spine-tingling atmosphere that'll keep you turning pages. The plot centers around a prophetic ancient calendar that is both thought provoking and controversial. But its the ending you'll be talking about. You won't see it coming.I highly recommend it as a great gift idea for the reader in your life... (hint, hint, hint... Father's Day will be here before you know it!)

Summary: Enter Steve Alten's Domain
Review: What I like the best about Steve Alten is that he didn't restrict himself to writing books about undersea terror and prehistoric sharks. I enjoyed reading Meg and The Trench, but Mr. Alten outdid himself with Domain. This book was meticulously reserched concerning the Mayan doomsday prophecy and the landmarks involved. Combine that with a healthy dose of imagination, excellent charcter develeopment and interaction, you have all the ingredients for a story that is a real page turner that stimulates the imagination. This novel I feel will be Mr. Alten's breakthrough that will give him the creditability and attention that he truely deserves. Way to go Steve...

Summary: Wonderful!!
Review: Steve Alten continues to amaze me. He put a lot of thought and research into this book. I am extremely interested in the ancient cultures like the Egyptians, Mayans, Incas and the Aztecs. I have read much about them and have done a lot of research into them also. It is a fiction book, but, there is a lot of fact about the cultures. He does not bore you to sleep with the story, in fact, you cannot put the book down, even if you do not know much about the ancient cultures. I wish him lots of luck on his next novels and keep up the good work. A wonderful find.

Summary: Another intelligent thriller from Steve Alten
Review: Simply put, Steve Alten is one of my favorite authors. He writes intelligent, well researched thrillers with believable characters. His first two books, Meg and The Trench, which were about Megalodon sharks surviving to the present day, are truly great reads. With his new book, Domain, Steve has managed to top himself.

With amazing detail, he has fashioned a story dealing with an ancient Mayan prophesy which predicts the end of the world. Julius Gabriel, who had a real life counterpart, has researched the Mayan calendar and has linked it to mysterious sites around the globe. If his theory is correct, humanity will perish on December 21, 2012. Before he can attempt to stop this armageddon, he dies. His son takes up the banner, but is locked in a mental hospital for his efforts. With the help of a psychology graduate student, Michael is able to continue his father's work.

Domain is not only fun to read, you'll find yourself learning a great deal about the Mayans and many other historical mysteries. If you haven't read Steve Alten yet, you have missed out on some great reading. Also visit his website for even more information on his books. Now if only we didn't have to wait so long for the sequel to Domain...

Summary: Steve Alten Keeps Getting Better....
Review: I saw an interview on the Today Show a few years ago with Matt Lauer and Steve Alten which lead me to read the novel MEG. Since reading that novel I have been waiting, not very patiently, for Mr. Alten's next one. And the next, The Trench. And the next, Domain. Domain is a captivating read. Not only does it entertain, it also teaches. Mr. Alten is much like Michael Crichton. He spins a yarn with so much research that it becomes almost impossible to distinguish where the facts become fiction and vice versa. Domain has great character development and story. I hope Mr. Alten is sitting down with pen in hand right now as I am again waiting for the next novel...and I HATE to wait!

Summary: Domain Dominates!
Review: Domain is a thrill a minute ride into sci-fi & adventure. Domain has touches of Indiana Jones, a dab of the Exorcist 3, and wraps up as the intelligent version of Independence Day. Do not try to predict the ending. You will not - nay, you could not see it coming. Hang on for all the surprises, twists & turns as Domain barrels along. Domain is possibly the most researched book ever. Reading Domain will scare you as you ask yourself "Hey! Is this stuff going to happen?" Steve Alten has done his homework. Read and then re-read all the factual frightening events that the ancient Mayan calendar has foretold. And now it is predicting the exact date our earth will come to an end. For all the critics who thought Steve Alten only writes shark books, think again. Steve may have found a new niche. He excells at a book that could easily be classified as sci-fi & adventure. Only his third novel, Domain is researched and written as if from an author with 20 or more novels to his credit. From the research to the characterization, Steve Alten writes like a man slightly ahead of his time. Domain is easily the best book I've read in years. I simply could not put it down. And I had two thoughts upon the completion of Domain: I don't know if I can wait until the next book & Domain screams at the top of it's lungs "movie!" If Hollywood doesn't snatch this one up, someone is asleep at the wheel.
