Review: The writing is awful. The characterizations are shallow. He didn't do a bad job capturing the tenor of a major forest firefighting base during a big hot summer (it made me homesick for Missoula). If you don't care about key characters popping up near the end of the book, others vanishing (whatever happened to the owner's wife?), and cartoon-depth, I suppose it's not bad for a summer read; I just hope y'all didn't pay the cover price.
