Summary: I enjoyed 3/4ths of this book...
Review: ...alas, the ending's lame and rushed as compared to the spare and wonderful prose that dominates the earlier sections. I truly enjoyed this book until the last 2 chapters when it digresses into a malaise and the author's sure-handed ways fail him. It's a shame because this guy can write. He's a cross between Richard Ford and James Ellroy. His next book, I think, will be the one that pushes him into those guys' stratosphere.

Summary: interesting and exciting from beginning to end
Review: After suffering through numerous books from previously successful authors Patterson, faye kellerman etc. its a pleasure to find a book that does not insult your intelligence. It is a page turner with emotion that makes it extremely difficult to put down.

Summary: DARK CORNERS
Review: After the less than compelling LAST SANCTUARY, Holden returns to the territory he did so well in THE RIVER SORROW. The relationship between our two protagonists here is painstakingly drawn, and evokes feelings of anger, sorrow, and love. The parallelisms between the disappearance of Bank's daughter and the apparent abduction of Tamara are fascinating to unfold. The use of the time shifts is intriguing, although at times a little confusing. But the story is so captivating, you find yourself spellbound by Holden's web. While I can't agree with Sarah's actions, I can understand her motivation. There's always an underlying feeling of what's really going on here that helps the novel move toward it's inevitable climax. A very good psychological thriller.

Summary: First Person Present
Review: Any time an author choses to tell his (her) tale in first person present, they had better have a good reason. Holden has several: the one his narrator shares with the reader late in the book, and the other to help the reader mark their place in this complex telling of three story lines spread over many years. Holden shows all the technique and craft of a gifted story teller. Four Corners of Night is a thriller for both men and women. Highly recommended.

Summary: Holden's best
Review: As a new mother, I was hesitant to read a story where children vanish, presumably taken away to have terrible deeds done to them. But I have enjoyed Holden's previous books, and the comments on the book cover prodded me to read this book. I couldn't put it down, and found myself reading it in spare moments, until I finished it in a few days. The twists and turns in the plot made for a suspenseful read, and yet the novel was also lyrical and graceful. My favorite authors tend to be skilled at showing how a person's past shapes him into the person he has become, and Holden does this wonderfully. I recommend this book. and his previous two novels as well.

Summary: parallel story line tied together in the last few pages
Review: believable deeply complex characters interwoven into a parallel story line spanning over a decade of friendships. Great ending.

Summary: Holden keeps improving with each book.
Review: Craig Holden creates events and scenes which render one unable to put the book down, whether or not dinner is ready on the stove. I vacillate between anger, frustration and pleasure in the relationship of the two detective friends. The horror of a child's kidnapping is more than I prefer to contend with, but the resolution of this story satisfies my reluctant sensibilities.

Craig gets better with each book and I look forward to many, many more. I have especially enjoyed reading The Four Corners of Night as I was able to walk with the characters through the various locales and revisit them through the author's eyes and words which was quite an interesting trip. While this is fiction, the locale closely resembles Craig's hometown. I know; I'm his very proud mother.

Summary: Another Instant Classic
Review: Craig Holden is one of the most talented writers around. His new book, "Four Corners of Night' dares to go where no other mystery has gone. Intense. Heartbreaking. Suspenseful. Literary. This new book is his best yet. The ending blew me away. He's a great, great writer. I can't wait for the next one.

Summary: Craig Holden's writing once again captures the mind
Review: Ever since taking Craig Holden at The University of Toledo a few years ago, I have read all the books he has written. This book in particular seems to be his best one yet. The suspense was amazing and I didn't want to put it down. I found myself reading this novel every spare moment I had. The relationship between Bank and Mack just goes to show that people can be friends throught he most difficult periods of life. Once again, Craig Holden is a spectacular writer who knows how to capture the minds of his readers. If it weren't for Craig Holden, I would not be wrting today.

Summary: Wow, I must have missed something.
Review: For the life of me I can't understand how so many people liked this book. Far from being "on the edge of your seat" come the end, I thought the ending was pretty much a "who cares" as it involves characters that had little role throughout the previous 350 pages. Perhaps if you like lame mysteries, you'll like this too.
