Summary: Review from the Seattle Times
Review: "Koenig--in a deft match of technique with subject matter--lets Thumbelina tell her own story at her own pace and in her own distinctive voice. While she may be an eighth-grade dropout, she finds ways around her circumscribed vocabulary to bring her world vividly to life....At the same time--and this is where Koenig's subtlety as a writer comes through--Thumbelina's exchanges with those around her, especially the few who think they can help her, are ever-shifting blends of evasion, demand and guilelessness. Suspenseful and utterly credible, these passages require you to read between the lines to discern the inward turmoil beneath Thumbelina's stonewalling facade....Love, even if it's called by some mighty unlikely names, is what draws Thumbelina stubbornly on through her devastated world, and Koenig's record of her progress is powerfully affecting....When the novel snaps into a fierce, transcendent focus on its last page, it's evident how exactingly Koenig has mastered her material and plumbed the deepest recesses of her young heroine.

Summary: Review from the Chicago Tribune
Review: "Over the course of the novel, Koenig's devotion to Thumbelina's voice, to her character and her story, becomes as important as Thumbelina's ferocious care for the 'fish' living inside her."

Summary: Great Book!!
Review: "Thumbelina" was a bit hard to get used to at first but look out!!!! After her mother dies when she is fourteen, Thumbelina learns fast what it's like to be in the real world.

This review slot is for the book by Andrea Koenig, not the "Children's" version with pictures!!!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: should be on the bestseller list - you'll enjoy
Review: Fun all the way through. Endearing Thumbelina keeps your heart beating with concern for her yet smiling at this humorous girl and her cast of characters. Liked the thought provoking it inspires regarding her situation....if Black and Blue can make it to the best seller list than so should this book, MUCH BETTER!

Summary: A very touching story
Review: I am taking a college fiction writing class this summer -- Andrea Koenig is my instructor. When she told us students that she had written a novel which had been published, I sought it out. I was not disappointed; this book is the first in a long time that I have read in one day! The title character, a fourteen-year-old girl who has been through much adversity, is wise beyond her years -- she has earned the right to every [smart] comment that pops forth from her six-foot body. It's heartbreaking to think of how believeable this character is! The complexity of Thumbelina's mother was the most compelling to me. The lack of quotation marks around dialogue made me a little dizzy at times, but otherwise, I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to future works from Ms. Koenig.

Summary: This is my absolute FAVORITE book!
Review: I love this book more than anything! When I first got it, I didn't think I'd like it after reading the first page. But a month later I gave it another chance, and I could NOT put it down! Every time I had something to do, I put it off till I was done with the book. It's written in such a captivating way and covers so many serious subjects, but many times you don't notice how serious they are because Thumbelina never has any self-pity and many times she has a unique sense of humor. It was happy and sad at the same time --i love books like that! And the ending was the very best part. I love how it was worded. If you're age 13 or up, I reccomend this book to you.

Summary: A Book For The Plane...
Review: I originaly bought this book to read on my four hour flight to Florida. I was browsing the bookstore looking for something interesting when the cover caught my attention. I bought it on a whim.

That night I decided to pick it up and read a little. I ended up reading most of the book! The story is told by Thumbelina, a 14-year-old orphan. After the death of her mother she is sent (with her Johnny Cash tapes) to live with a foster mother. This is where she meets the daringly indepenent Myrna. Myrna is also fourteen, and pregnant. It takes her no time in revealing that Thumbelina is pregnant as well. The girls become good friends, although they do have their catfights. They help eachother through good times and bad (mostly bad) and eventually brave enough heartache to last a lifetime.

The book was wonderfully written, although the lack of quotation marks can be confusing. All in all I think this is a wonderful book for a decent reader.

Summary: Grabs you on the first page
Review: I really enjoyed this book right from the first page. I could relate to Thumbelina's not fitting in with the popular crowd and I loved her sarcasm. I was a little put off, though, by Thumby's friend, Myra and her attempts to have another baby. She's only 14! Also, Myra's boyfriend, Stan could get arrested for sleeping with an underage girl. All in all, this was a good read.

Summary: A great book
Review: I thought this book was really good. the main character had many problems that she was able to overcome because of her ability to hold hope.

Summary: WELL DONE KOENIG!
Review: ON MY WAY TO LONDON, A REFRESHING PASSENGER ON THE PLANE NEXT TO ME FILLED MY MIND WITH A DELIGHTFUL, PASSIONATE CHARACTER OF A BOOK SHE WAS WORKING ON. FOR YEARS TO COME I ALWAYS REMEMBERED THE CHARACTER THUMBILINA AND HER JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE. THEN RECENTLY I REMEMBERED THAT THE BOOK SHOULD BE PUBLISHED BY NOW. I RAN TO THE CLOSEST BOOKSTORE, AND TO MY SUPRISE THUMBILINA WAS ALIVE! I WAS SO EXCITED TO READ ABOUT HER, I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. HOW PROUD I WAS OF MY OLD TRAVELING PARTNER, AS WELL AS FOR THE CHARACTER THUMBILINA AND HER JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE. THUMBILA HAS A REFRESHING, HONEST LOVE IN HER AND I COULDN'T WAIT TO PASS THE BOOK ALONG TO OTHERS. EVERY MONTH I HAVE SAVED MONEY TO BUY A COPY TO SOMEONE I KNOW. HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS IT AS MUCH AS I DID.
