Rating: Summary: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick Review: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick must be the most unique and interesting book that I have ever seen. When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher had everyone write a story for a picture every week. It was so fun. I think that this book should be used in all schools. It's great to look at and to imagine what is really happening for each page. Everyone should go out and buy this. It's eerie, yet intriguing. Great job!
Rating: Summary: Intriguing! Review: The pictures alone would be enough to start your imagination flowing, but the captions capture you. I've seen this book used in creative writing workshops, children's classrooms, and in homes. Give one to a child you know who loves to make up stories! Or an adult for that matter!
Rating: Summary: A great book and mystery for all ages Review: This book has pictures that were supposedly drawn by an artist who dissapeared before he could turn in the story. An intriguing mystery it captivates younger children and parents. The pictures are surreal and the pictures leave you hanging.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful and Inspiring Book Review: This book is one of Chris Van Allsburg's best. His illustrations are thought-provoking as well as skillfully drawn. This book would be a great gift for a child (of any age) who is a reluctant writer. The format of the book is like no other I have seen, including pictures, a title and a caption for stories which have "been lost." It beckons creativity.
Rating: Summary: This Book Sent Me on a Quest! Review: This book is probably one of the most intriguing books that I have ever seen. I was first introduced to it in the fourth grade and my entire class fell in love with it. Everytime we went to the library our class would beg to see it. Unfortunately I forgot the title and years passed. By this time I had reached college I couldn't even remember the author. I was constantly searching for the book because I wanted to use it with my students during my student teaching, finally one day I happened across a copy of it and it was as if a quest had finally been completed. I have since used it with two different classes during my student teaching and each of them loved it, with students begging to have the opportunity to write stories based on the pictures. I highly recommend this book, the reader will be spellbound just as my schoolmates and I were 13 years ago.
Rating: Summary: mysteries Review: This book not only gets the children thinking but it also makes the teacher wonder what is happening next. The illustrations are dark but so descriptive. It is a book that everytime you look at it you see something different. A must have in a classroom!
Rating: Summary: Very Memorable Review: This book will get ANYONE writing. Great for kids, but probably better for adults who've forgetten how to use their imaginiations.
Rating: Summary: Visually amazing. Review: This book will get ANYONE writing. Great for kids, but probably better for adults who've forgetten how to use their imaginiations.
Rating: Summary: Story Starters Review: This is a great book to get kids imaginations going. The pictures and titles can be used as story starters for any age group. I have not met a child or adult who could resist the pictures.
Rating: Summary: So You Want to be a Writer . .. Review: This is the book that got me started writing. About 16 years ago, my English teacher gave us an assignment and this book to base the assignment on. The unique pictures, the sparkling captions and the fascinating titles all served to get me thinking and writing. Two hundred notebooks and countless computer files later, I'm still at it. This is the cure for writer's block, and the answer to dreary days that need some storytelling. The only folks I can see this book not helping are the ones who would prefer NOT to use their imaginations. For them, perhaps television is better. But any person, any age can see countless possibilities from the teasing details present here. This is the book to leave out on the coffee table, to take into the classroom, to keep by the word processor. If you haven't seen it, check it out. And have fun with your stories!
