Rating: Summary: A Thriller Loaded with Secrets Review: Psychic Nell Gallagher ran away from small town Silence, Louisiana right out of high school. Now it's twelve years later, she's an FBI agent and she's back under cover to try and stop a killer. Circumstances have her dealing with her old boyfriend, Rancher Max Turner, who she left in the lurch all those years ago. Though the romance is there, it doesn't sizzle off the page, this book is more a thriller and it's loaded with secrets we're eager to uncover along with the characters.Kay Hooper has written a five star winner with "Whisper of Evil" I loved the book and can hardly wait to go on to "Sense of Evil" Reviewed by Vesta Irene

Rating: Summary: delightful psychic thriller Review: The small Louisiana town of Silence is anything but quiet these days. Four men in eight months have been killed and the townsfolk are afraid; they want the police to catch the killer quickly. The only problem is the police are totally stymied so the mayor has asked the FBI to come in since their profile suggests that the murderer is a local cop. Nell Gallagher ran away from Silence when she was seventeen, but has returned twelve years later to settle the family estate. Since she is also a FBI agent, she is able to work undercover without anyone questioning her motives. She must deal with rancher Max Tanner, who needs to know why Nell closed the door on their relationship to run away after they made love for the first time. Kay Hooper's, psychic thrillers are always a delightful reading experience and WHISPER OF EVIL is no exception. Characters from previous works lend a sense of continuity to the story line and readers will be glad to reunite with favorites who feel like friends. The plot is complex and has so many unexpected twists and turns that readers won't be able to predict what happens next. This is a one sitting read that will find its' way to the reader's keeper shelf. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Okay if you have nothing better to read Review: This book is okay - not great, not horrible either. The main character is interesting, but some of the other characters, such as her love interest, never seemed quite like a real person would act like that. The dialogue was sometimes repetitive, as another reviewer mentioned. The writing could get a little cheesy ("The tension in the room behind him was just about thick enough to cut with a knife. A real knife, not a metaphorical one.") Huh? The basic premise was interesting, and there were some interesting plot twists as well, but there were also some things that didn't quite seem to make sense. My biggest problem with this book is that the author never gives you enough information to figure out who the killer is. The conclusion of a good mystery should have the reading saying, "Why didn't I put those clues together before?" Instead, I was saying, "Why wasn't I given those clues at all?"
Rating: Summary: Whisper of Mediocrity Review: This is a fairly ordinary police procedural novel with a paranormal twist. I liked the concept of a special FBI unit that uses agents with physic powers to solve the tough and ugly crimes. The small town setting and the mysterious past relationship between the main characters were interesting for a while. However, the execution in Whisper of Evil was long, sloppy and confusing. I'm not looking for high-quality, classic writing in a casual summer read like this but I found it hard to maintain enough focus to keep reading through to the end (I did finish it!). Characters appear briefly and then disappear for 100 pages, forcing you to flip back in the book to remember whom we're talking about. I gave it 2 stars because there is some entertainment value to be had here - some reasonably well drawn characters, some exciting plot twists - but I felt always felt little lost trying to follow the plot, and too much had to fall into place in the last few pages or so. I would not recommend this, even as lightweight reading. There are just too many other offerings out there that are flat out better. Move on.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: this is the first book i have read from the author Kay Hooper, and i have to tell you it was excellent. it has to be the best book i have ever read, and trust me i've read a lot of books. well it starts out with a premonition from the main character, Nell Gallagher. she returns to the town of silence after running away more than a decade ago. she comes back while several murders have occurred. she starts having visions of the dead men. the men all had one thing in common, they were well respected men with terrible secrets that would damage their reputations if they were still alive. she is joined by her old flame, Max Tanner. they together try to uncover who the killer is with things popping everywhere. they uncover secrets and tragidies along the way. i recommend this book to everyone who loves mysteries and this book keeps you guessing all the way to the very end.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Installment! Review: This is the second book I've read by Kay Hooper. I was very impressed with "Touching Evil," one of her other Evil trilogy books. Ms. Hooper didn't disappoint; this book was very well written. The book involves the FBI unit known as the Special Crimes Unit(SCU), and Nell Gallagher, the heroine, is assigned as the field agent to her hometown of Silence. She meets up with her old flame, Max Tanner, and they proceed to try to solve the murders that have scared the whole community. Along the way, Ms. Hooper delves into the paranormal and is able to logically approach the subject without pretense or exaggeration. This is a great read!
