Rating: Summary: Great romantic suspense-lots of surprises Review: There is nothing more frightening on the face of this earth than encountering the personification of evil when it wears a human visage. The women of Seattle are very fearful because some psychopathic madman is abducting women, raping and torturing them and cutting out their eyes. There are at least four victims, two dead, one alive but without sight, and the last person underwent pioneering eye surgery when she was given the eyes of a dead person. Maggie Barnes, the police sketch artist, has an uncanny way of getting victims to relive the crimes that destroyed them so she can draw a picture of the perpetrator. John Garrett, a very successful and powerful businessman, is the brother of one of the dead victims of The Blindfold Rapist. He is using all the resources at his command, some of them very unique, to help Maggie and the police find the culprit. Neither Maggie nor John pays attention to the danger that surrounds them as they come even closer to unmasking the killer. If they come out of this investigation alive, a glorious future awaits the two of them together. Readers who liked Kay Hooper's psychic suspense Shadow series will love this work which features characters from that trilogy who make cameo appearances. The romance plays a secondary role to the action-oriented story line but there is plenty of appeal to readers who like romance, paranormal and suspense in one great package. TOUCHING EVIL is an enthralling work written by a natural storyteller. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Psychic thriller .... too many psychics render unbelievable Review: This is the story of Maggie, a psychic empath who listens to crime victims horrible experiences and creates an exact sketch of the criminal. She's very successful up until she begins to help the police with their hunt for a serial rapist who wears a plastic mask and blinds his victims by gouging their eyes out. John, a wealthy business mogul, joins the cast of characters in this story after his sister is victimized by the killer. After healing from the attack she commits suicide - at least that's what the police think - Maggie and John know better. Enter the plot points that spoiled the story: Maggie's brother is also psychic and talks to someone who isn't named during the course of the story at all. Then John brings in two friends from an FBI special unit to help with the investigation. They are also psychic. So there I was reading a thoroughly engrossing story when suddenly the story contained FOUR psychics. That was a bit much. I almost abandoned the book at that point, but didn't. The other spoiler was that all the characters said "Yeah" when they agreed with something - wasn't there an editor involved in this book? Fortunately the story was entertaining enough to finish, but it's not a keeper.

Rating: Summary: Finally...An Author I Like to Read! Review: Being a medical student, I've been through many required books. As a child I was a huge bookworm, but as I grew up the required reading that school had caused me to lose my love for books. However, I've been looking for some new authors to catch my fancy again, and with Kay Hooper, I did! This was the first book I read from her, and I absolutely loved it! I am a big science fiction and paranormal fan, and this book had everything I wanted. Not only was the plot twisted and suspenseful, I really enjoyed her logical perception of paranormal abilities. Now I'm looking forward to reading the "Shadows" trilogy!
Rating: Summary: another great series Review: I'm still undecided about this book. In a few ways I enjoyed it, but in just as many I did not, and while sitting here, I am not sure why exactly. I wasn't confused by the storyline, but it didn't grab me, and I think that's what I am having the most difficulty with. I guessed the killer, "Evil," very early in the book, so I suppose that's what deflated it for me. I read this book at the recommendation of my mother. My mom has just started discovering thriller books, and this was one of her first ventures and she enjoyed it. I guess since I've been reading them for as long as I can remember I am a better judge of them at this point. I had this book for about 3 months before I finally sat down and made it through the whole thing. I read the first few chapters and while the first part of the book was interesting it quickly slowed down to dragging by the middle. I kept giving up on it and starting another book, only to restart this one about 3 or 4 times. I finally finished it last week. About the 3rd quarter of the book it picked up again, but then towards the end it went back to a crawl, and I was left feeling bored by the time I finished it. I keep thinking back to it, and there were several parts of the book that I enjoyed, but I'm not sure if I'm going to continue on with the series. I might try the next one to see if this is one of those types of series that you have to take in as a whole.
Rating: Summary: Another Great book by Kay Review: I loved the Shadow books just as I love the Evil books. Kay Hooper has a great way of drawing readers into the mystery. What I like most about Kay Hooper's book is the touch of the mystical as well as the romance that are key elements in her mysteries. Add these into a compelling whodunit and you have a great mixture. I am looking forward to the next in the series.
