Summary: If you like scary books, .......
Review: This is one of the better ones I've read. There isn't an overabundance of steamy romance, and the fear factor is pretty high. The storyline moves right along, and it is believable. I highly recommend it.

Summary: What a disappointment!
Review: This book was a total let down. There was too much gore! And the plot had too many loose ends. I had to reread a section because I thought I had missed a clue. The fate of the woman and her unborn child was over the top and totally unnecessary.

I became familiar with Kay through the Shadows series. Her mystery romance novels never interested me.

As far as I'm concern, a Touch of Evil is in the same league as a slasher movie. This book, from this author, was my last.

Summary: Ugh
Review: I read the "Shadows" series and thought it was okay, though the paranormal isn't really my thing. This one, however, was unbearable. It's unnecessarily gory, and too many psychics spoil the plot.

Definitely not worth the money, and definitely the last one of this author's books for me.

Summary: You have GOT to be kidding.
Review: I hate to disillusion Kay Hooper's big fans, but I personally felt the book was far from satisfactory. This is the first book of hers I've ever read. I actually liked the premise of this book and spent all morning reading it when I really should have been sleeping. Then I hit the bits about reincarnation, karmic debt, and who the bad guy is/was and went "Oh god, tell me she's joking."

She wasn't.

A beautifully woven plot, a sympathetic and believable heroine, and a fascinating premise got shot down in flames with the worst ending I have ever seen in a thriller. The bad guy here makes about as much sense as the bad guy in the movie "Urban Legend", and for about the same reasons. That was hideously disappointing and cliched. Does Kay Hooper not watch horror movies? Does she seriously think that all bad guys must be seen in the book at least once and that you can just pin "bad guy" on any schmoe interchangably? I mean, it could just as easily have been the guy at the library, the bum, or some total stranger who bumped into someone on the street, with the same motivations and justifications. That was TERRIBLE.

That was the worst of it, but there was a lot of other stuff I really hated about the last 50 pages or so of the book. The heroine does something so harebrained at the end that I lost all suspension of disbelief right there. The "kosmik karma" aspect was bad enough, but the explanation of just *why* the heroine is doing what she's doing was absolutely lame, not to mention insane.

Loved the buildup, hated the actual ending.

Summary: Definitely not as good as the Shadows series
Review: Maybe it was because her Shadow books were unique, but they were so much better than Touching Evil. I found that I really had to force myself to read it. There wasn't the "thrilling, have to read, leave me alone, can't put it down" draw with this book as there had been with her first three books. I was very disappointed in this one and ended up just skimming to see who the killer was. Needless to say it is the first Kay Hooper book that has ever ended up in the bag to go to the book exchange. I hope her next one is better, though I might just get it from the book exchange instead of buying it new.

Summary: This started it all!
Review: I picked up this book in an airport to read on a long flight. I didn't put it down again. After I finished it, I was enthralled by the way the author developed her characters and the way she touched upon the supernatural. I have never liked how the supernatural was presented in any book before this. Since then I have bought 7 of her books and am slowly working my way through the collection. I haven't found one that I didn't love. I highly recommend this author and this book.

Summary: There are much better things out there!
Review: Wow, I can't *believe* anyone liked this book! It's such fluff! On a level with Nancy Drew (with apologies to Carolyn Keene, who wasn't writing for adults), and with lots of grisly gore thrown in.

Maybe I can steer some discerning readers who might be disappointed to a better choice. Try Stephen King or Dean Koontz for a really thrilling "paranormal angle," and Sue Grafton for a down-to-earth whodunit.

Kay Hooper is a _romance_ novelist... for serious mystery fans, I need say no more.

Review: Wow, I can't *believe* all the reviews that say this book is great. I think it isn't. It's fluff! A step up from Nancy Drew, with lots of grisly gore thrown in, and for what?

Don't waste your time on Touching Evil. Try Stephen King or Dean Koontz.

Kay Hooper is a _romance_ novelist. For serious mystery fans, I'm sure I need say no more.

Summary: This is a good one...
Review: This was the first of her books that I have read and I will definitely by looking into the rest of her work. I really enjoyed this book. It had a couple of places that I thought could have been worked more and some less, but overall it was a good read. It's one of those books that you anticipate getting to read more and thinking about during the day.
