Summary: FAST PACED READ
Review: I listened to the audio version and really enjoyed it. It's my first book to read by this author, but have bought almost all his others since. I don't think you'll be disappointed! It's easy to get sucked in because the characters are so believable. I finished it within a couple days, which is rare for me. Hope you enjoy it too!

Summary: What a book!
Review: I started this book on Monday evening...reading the first 200 pages in one sitting (and finished it the following night)! What a great book. The characters were wonderfully written, giving you depth and insight into their personalities. The book begins with the disappearance of Gus Wheatley's wife. She never showed up to pick up their daughter. Gus is a powerful attorney who has spent more time on his career rather than his family. As he waits for word on his wife, he begins to realize how much he has missed about his wife and daughter. He begins to see the small changes that have taken place in his wife's behavior over the past several months. Has his wife left him? Has she been kidnapped? Or worse murdered? The FBI takes an interest in the case and Andie is assigned to the case. She is a young, ambitious agent who begins to unravel the case. Her character is strong and she begins to take chances in order to solve the case.

This book provides twists and turns, reads quickly and has a great ending!! I highly recommend the book!

Summary: This is One Killer Thriller
Review: I thought that I would pick up a good mystery over the holidays and headed for "Grisham" on the rack. I stopped short when "Grippando" caught my eye. "Under Cover of Darkness" was not a good mystery. It was a GREAT mystery from start to finish. I don't think I have ever read a story this intense in my life. Full of short, fast-flying chapters, "Under Cover of Darkness" ends each with nail-biting suspense and the inability to put the pages down. The character portrayal was expert and the plot was full of twists and turns but never lost me. The forces of good and evil were embattled so realistically throughout this novel that sometimes I would find my shoulders shudder and my spine tingle. If you are as busy as I am and have only a small window of opportunity for pleasure reading, pick this one up. It's the fastest read you'll ever find.

Summary: Not Worth Your Time
Review: I was really hoping to like this book. I had never read anything by the author, and thought if this story hooked me, I'd have a bunch of others to enjoy. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. Because for me, on every level this book failed.
As a suspense story it fell pretty flat. The plot didn't move and there were very few parts that didn't feel routine. The story starts out like it's going to be a serial killer tale, but then strangely and rather abruptly diverts to the evil world of cults. And the marrying of the two never seems to make much sense.
The driving force of the book is whether Gus Wheatley's missing and somewhat neglected wife, Beth, could be caught up in the killings. At first she's thought a possible victim, then more likely an accomplice. Torn in the middle is their 7 year-old daughter, Morgan, whose strained relationship with dad is tested while mom is missing. This is the character study portion of the novel. But as with the rest of the book, it really never works. We're given no reasons to believe that a rich, suburban housewife is going to participate in a murder spree just because her successful, workaholic, yet generally decent husband forgets their anniversary. But the book does get it's only props for posing the question. And it would have been a far more interesting and original story if it tried to develop the possibility further. But no such luck. Instead the story walks down a predictable path and takes the reader nowhere. Best advice - don't bother making the trip.

Summary: A Plot to Die For
Review: I've read all of James Grippando's novels. The guy has an incredible knack for staying ahead of his reader. This is another "kept me up all night turning the pages" thriller from a writer who's at the top of his game.

Review: James Grippando is one of my favorite authors. His books never disappoint and this one is no different with its many surprising twists and turns. His fictional characters are some of the best, so believable and true to life and the story is so compelling I had trouble putting this book down. I expect no-less from this very gifted writer.

Summary: Gripping mystery
Review: James Grippando's latest kept me guessing the whole way. A missing wife along with a serial killer on the loose can make for a predictable story, but not in the hands of Grippando. The story kept me entertained throughout, but I thought the second half was the better. Good mystery, good thrills, and good suspense, kept me glued too the book till the end.
