Summary: The gratuitous cigar butt
Review: My husband and I were enjoying this audio book while driving, but we ended up being disappointed because there is an element that makes no sense: the emptied out car ashtray that accuses JOnah Hale. Mr. Martini - we are paying attention. don't throw in stuff that doesn't work. Otherwise, well written and involving.

Summary: welcome back
Review: Welcome back Steve Martini to your best. I thought this book was equal to his first two books about Paul Madriani (the last three just lacking the same spark for me). I was kept intreged trying to figure out who did it, and found it hard not to cheat and read the end. I hope the next in the series is as good.

Summary: A Fast Read
Review: This is another Paul Madriani story. It flows fast, I read it in one day. The story starts out with him taking on a Lottery winnig client who is trying to regained his kidnapped grandchild. The clint ends up needing his help to fight off a murder charge that seems to be connected to the kidnapping. The story is fun but has a couple of holes, still fun. You are given a couple of clues, but I do not think you will figure out the end of the book until you read it....

Summary: A Compelling Legal Thriller Not To Be Missed!
Review: The Attorney by amazing storyteller Steve Martini is a compelling legal thriller that had me swiftly flipping through the pages!

A book I truly had difficulity putting down until after I had read the last exciting page.

The Attorney gave me plenty to think about and I am now wondering if I will ever want to invest in another lottery ticket (smile).

The Attorney is a book well worth the read!

Summary: Maybe Good Justice?
Review: THE ATTORNEY By Steve Martini 1/10/02
Paul Madriani is a likeable attorney who gets involved in the case of a missing 8-year old girl. He was hired by her grandfather to get her back in spite of Paul telling him what he needed was a private detective. Jonah, the grandfather who ends up arrested for a murder, is a man who has a hair-trigger temperature, but respects the law so much that he will not tell a lie to save his life.

It looks like Paul got over his head when dealing with the women in his life. To say he was getting a real snow job is putting it lightly.

Summary: Not so exciting
Review: This book had the most boring storyline I've seen in a long time. I didn't find the premise to be at all interesting, and certainly not thrilling. I forced myself to finish this book. The only time I became interested in reading the book was towards the end when the mystery was being unfolded. I was severely disappointed to find that much of the evidence used in the trial of the accused was totally ignored in the explanation of what really happened (i.e. fish scales and blood on the deceased woman, where the cigarettes/cigar/ashes that were dumped on her came from). It would make sense if the expected murderer was really guilty, but not when the true killer was revealed. Although I was surprised at who the murderer was, this was ruined by the fact that too many things were not explained. Basically, this book was slow and boring.

Summary: Another Great Book by Steve Martini
Review: STOP and do yourself a favor and start with Martini's first in the series and read Compelling Evidence and each book after in order.

The Attorney is a great book with a terrific twist at the end. I enjoy reading Martini and I'm a big fan of Paul and Harry. I'm looking foward to reading The Jury!

Summary: Another Martini Hit
Review: Paul Madriani's return is brilliant in this classic legal thriller. Steve Martini does what john Grisham has lost touch of.. Martini has clearly overtaken Grisham with this novel as the great thriller writer. Great Job. Try the Jury. It's also great

Summary: Another solid entry from America's best legal writer
Review: Paul Madriani is back - back to solving a murder in order to get his client off, back to dodging bullets, and back to finding clever ways to divert justice from an overzealous prosecutor. Madriani relocates from Sacramento, err, Capital City to a beautiful seaside residence in San Diego. Harry Hinds gladly comes with him, but unfortunately, we leave the Coconut (Judge Acosta) behind in this new thriller. The title initially led me to think Madriani himself would be on trial in this one, just like Acosta was in "The Judge". However, the story is another standard Madriani tale, much like "Compelling Evidence" or "Undue Influence". Our hero has a new girlfriend in this one, and his relationship with her causes some professional issues. He initially starts out with his client in an attempt to find a way to bring legal pressure to get his kidnapped grandaughter back from his estranged daughter. However, this quickly turns into a murder case as the grandfather is linked by the police to the death of an unattractive woman whose crusade is to help women steal children away from oppressive men. We also get caught up with a Mexican drug dealer, some mysterious DEA (?) agents, and other dead bodies along the way. In the end, Martini throws in the twist out of nowhere to shock us with the truth about the killer. My only complaint is that Martini could have added a couple of more pages of explanation as to how all of the evidence fit into the true killer's story.

Summary: Intelligent
Review: This is a great plot! Everything fits into place, if you've been paying attention. There are details from the beginning that are key into figuring it all out. If you need to have everything explained at the end (as Martini did in his first Madrini book) you might not enjoy this one. But if you like being able to figure out the mystery using subtle hints, then you'll enjoy it. I read the whole book in two days because I just could not put it down.
