Rating: Summary: Is every Indian a wilderness expert? Review:
This novel features Jane Whitfield, a Seneca from upper New York sho helps fugitives disappear. She is picky about those she helps and she has quite a few resources at her disposal, including incredible outdoor survival skills and a network of associates to help cover her tracks and provide new identities (Isn't it interesting that EVERY Indian character in this type of book is an expert outdoorsman? Just once, I'd like to see an Indian with all of the outdoor skills of Woody Allen!)
I almost stopped reading this book about 60 pages in - but it got better. There's a pretty good plot twist that pulls its final grade up to '3 stars'.
Rating: Summary: Better-than-average thriller by evocative writer. Review: "Procedural" thriller with engaging heroine and good ideas about hiding and finding people. Author's "Dance for the Dead" (same heroine) is better
Rating: Summary: An irresistable page-turner in the wee hours Review:
_Vanishing_Act_ is the 3rd in a series featuring Jane, a woman "guide" who helps people establish new identities. From the initial "vanishing act" until the last page is turned, this is a book that's hard to put down. You just wanna keep going to find out what's gonna happen next!
I haven't read the 2 books that precede this one, and am looking forward to correcting that deficiency. I do wonder if Perry has become tired of his heroine; she keeps saying and saying that this is her last job. I sincerely hope not.
Rating: Summary: A fast-paced, well-wrought crime novel. Review: A great book! A good, old-fashioned, page-turner
with a twist: Jane Whitefield. Whitefield is a
woman who helps people in trouble disappear to better and safer lives. She maneuvers through a world of crime and deception with stealth, cunning,
and strength. Whitefield is also half Seneca and her Native American upbringing plays an intricate
role in her life and is crucial to her survival.
Perry has done a fantastic job. I hope there's more Jane Whitefield to come!

Rating: Summary: dumb Review: Beginning was promissing, but everything else was a mere predictable disappointment. I hope other books are better.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating premise, interesting character - kept me reading Review: Ever wondered how people disappear intentionally? Read this book and find out. Jane Whitfield is an interesting character and a bit of a rarity among male authors - she's a woman who lives a very different life and makes no apologies for it. She helps people in genuine trouble - not criminals running from the law - disappear into new lives. This book kept me reading until the end, despite disappointment in Whitfield's decision to help the person who comes to her at the beginning of the book with a rather unlikely story. Perhaps her need to believe is part of her character. Hopefully future books will explore her reasons for her unusual "occupation" - she doesn't take money for her work, it turns out
Rating: Summary: Excellent, engrossing, could not put it down! Review: First book I read of Thomas Perry..can't wait to get more of his work in. Could not put the book down.I'm a readaholic so have many authors whom I've come to know..he's one of the best!
Rating: Summary: started good Review: I could not finish this book.It started out so promising but I found all the detail about the American Indians distracting and so i got bored and quit reading it.When i find myself skimming through parts of a book to read faster then i know I shouldn't read any further.I hate quitting a book but I just couldn't get past all the detail about the native history. Some would find this interesting but i didn't.I might try this author again...
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable but entertaining. Review: I enjoyed reading this book, although the story line is unbelievable. Often, I would put the book down and say to myself: "No way". The main character is interesting and original, it would make a good movie. The information about native people is the best part of the book. This was my first Thomas Perry book and I will go back to him again.
