Rating: Summary: Loved it in New York! Review: This book has been making the rounds in my office building and has become a popular book here. I've seen remarks from other reviewers that it reminds them of a "Law and Order" script, and I agree to the point that the story moves quickly, the characters are depicted well, and the dialogue real. This falls more into the category of thriller - the killer is revealed early in the book and the story focuses more on the investigation - which I like. I also like the Southern locale and dialogue.Since so many have given brief descriptions of the book, I will stay away from that, but suffice to say that this is one heck of an entertaining book that has my colleagues talking. The author writes succinctly with a subtle sense of humor and reveals characters who are flawed enough to be interesting. Not the robotic characters I've seen in other books. Great job.
Rating: Summary: AM I MISSING SOMETHING!?!?!?!?!??!?! Review: My book club read this recently and all but one of us were left thinking....huh? At the end. This was not a good book, why? Withought spoiling anything: -Only 180pages -NO, I mean ZERO mystery. None. You know what's what in the first 10 pages -No character development. We don't know much about who they are or why they behave the way they do -Paints men as dumb and sex obsessed. (Okay maybe some are, but this was a bit extreme). The characters in general were one-dimentional and boring. -Bad dialogue. If this were a movie, you wouldn't watch it. Worse than a soap, CTFrench obviously didn't talk to ANY black people before she wrote the dialogue for her black characters. Overall, CTF had a good idea but totally wack development. I only finished it because I kept waiting for a shoe to drop, it never did. Don't waste your time or money.
Rating: Summary: Different Review: There are so many summaries given, I'll pass on that. I am giving this book a 5-star rating because it's just plain good. Written in a way that keeps the story moving and with very little extraneous detail or too much word usage for descriptions of scenes/persons. The characters are realistic - I felt like I knew each and every one, including the brutal killer. The motive behind the killings makes sense. Marvin, the black detective is fun and I'd love to see him in another book. Some have compared this to a Law and Order script. I have to say I agree. What a cool author!
Rating: Summary: Must read suspense thriller, Review: I am such a fan of Ms. French! Her stories are very thrilling! She is an excellent writer and I enjoy her stories. Her characters are down to earth and her plots are well-written. I will be thrilled when her next novel hits the bookshelves!
Rating: Summary: "My two cents" Review: WAYNE'S DEAD by Christy French is without doubt a book made for a movie of the week! It will win the sweep in the ratings! The story line is not like other books nor are the characters. French's well-thoughtout characters and plot are one-of-a kind. I was captivated with this story from the first chapter and was so engrossed in the suspense of it that I was sad when th story ended. Ignore the insecure-jerks who post bad reviews. They are just people who cannot deal with someone's book out-selling their own book. Such a dog-eat-do the world of print is!
Rating: Summary: Well-paced, Very Entertaining Review: This is the first book I've read by this author. One of my students recommended this, knowing my love for thrillers, and I was not disappointed. Since there are quite a few summaries, I see no need to repeat. The author's style is her own, the book is paced so well that the story flows quickly, and the premise is highly entertaining. The characters are stand-apart with dialogue that fits each one perfectly. I hope to see more thrillers by Ms. French. Very good book.
Rating: Summary: USA Made for TV Movie Review: I'm a big fan of Mystery/Thrillers and I hate to write a bad review, however this book reminded me of a made for TV movie. The book has it's moments...but overall If you've read more than one serial killer thriller...I think you will ultimately be disappointed with this book. It is a fun read..but it is no way near a five star book. I apoligize to the fans of this author..but I had to give my 2 cents on this one.
Rating: Summary: Spine-chilling! Review: Oh, my goodness! I was literally glued to my seat with this one! Way to go Christy French!
Rating: Summary: Both suspenseful and exciting, Review: Wow! I am a huge fan of this exciting new writer! If you are a person who reads for a variety of reasons then you just have to order this book. WAYNE'S DEAD offers its readers hours of enjoyment. A quick read that will have you literally glued to your seat all during the reading of this book! I have no doubt you will enjoy yourself with this fine book!
Rating: Summary: Murder, romance - this book's got it all Review: My cousin sent me an autographed copy of this book for Christmas, and it was so good, I read it in one day. Other readers have summarized the story and posted comments, and I can't add much more other than it's a fast read and a book that will hold your interest throughout. The romance twisted around and into the investigation into the serial killer is great. Loved Jackson Daniels and his bad-boy partner, Marvin. The author left enough of a dangle at the end that I'm wondering if there's going to be a sequel. Hope so!
