Rating: Summary: Fast, Thoroughly Entertaining Book Review: So much has been written about this book I can't add much more, but I thought "Wayne's Dead" was a great book. One of those books you're reluctant to put down, you become so absorbed in the story. The writing is precise and razor-sharp. The dialogue fits the Southern characters. The serial killer is demented to the point of being chilling. The ending left me wondering if there is going to be a sequel - hope so!
Rating: Summary: spellbound from start to finish, Review: Wayne's Dead is just one of those books that you simply get lost in until after you have read the whole story!
Rating: Summary: Must Read Thriller! Review: "Wayne's Dead" by creative new writer Christine French had me swiftly turning the pages as fast as I could! This is one MUST READ THRILLER!!!
Rating: Summary: In a word, wow! Review: Terrific writer...Terrific book! Take my word for it you will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Thriller movie material here Review: "Wayne's Dead" would make a great movie, I think. Great characters, disturbing killer with an even more disturbing modus operandi, dialogue based on realism, fast-pace, and entertaining story. Good book that lingers in the mind. I'm jotting this author down on my to-read list
Rating: Summary: This attorney liked it Review: I received this book as a gift since I'm an attorney and the plot is about a serial killer who murders attorneys - go figure. Still, it's a great book - so good, I decided to note my comments here. Very plausible and realistic. Moves quickly with characters who fit the story, accurate forensics and investigative techniques. I see where one reviewer slammed the book by criticizing the number of pages, and I'd like to point out this is not a standard-sized paperback, but a larger book - more hardback size. Also, apparently this person has never been to the South and is unaware of the dialect down here - black and white. I found it to be very real-life. As for the mentation of the men depicted - I don't recall reading anything that led me to that conclusion. To each his own, as they say, and I say this is one fine story.
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable Review: I recently joined a reading group and this was the book being discussed. All agreed this author has a style all her own. No carbon copies of other authors' styles or characters. French is refreshingly blunt - "Just the facts, ma'am" applies here. We came to the conclusion that she trusts her readers have intelligence enough and are imaginative enough to add filler wherever they want. No long, laborious descriptions of every little nuance. I like that! The characters seem like people you have met before. Easy to imagine how each one looks and acts. The dialogue fits. The killer hovers in the background of every scene. Mystery or thriller - I'm not sure. But all in all, a good story and an author I'd like to read more.
Rating: Summary: I'm a black woman and I thought this story was excellent! Review: I don't know what the reader/reviewer from Harlem was thinking when she slammed this writer but I think it is she who is whacked and not this book! That being said, (geez!) Wayne's Dead by BESTSELLING AUTHOR CHRISTY FRENCH, is a terrific story that had me swiftly turning the pages of this book as fast as possible! (Ignore the insecure jerks/other/writers Ms. French they only wish they could writer a story line as terrific as you do!) For you it has become a reality, however, for them, their still dreaming! Now, hurry up and type out another bestseller for me and my reading group! We Love You!
Rating: Summary: Chilling Review: A killer is on the loose in Knoxville, TN indulging in symbolic killings of middle-aged attorneys, all with the words "Wayne's Dead" written in blood over their bodies. The beginning of this book is disturbing but offers insight into the killer's mind. Jackson Daniels, the investigating detective, is a great character: tart and heavy and sour, as his partner Marvin describes him. One of my favorites is Bogie, the forensics investigator. The chapters with the psychologist are some of the best in this book. The ending left me wondering if the killer actually did suffer from MPD or just pretended to. The last scene between Jack and Gillian is chilling. Great book!
Rating: Summary: What an Ending Review: Jackson Daniels is a moody man with an edge. A loner until he meets Gillian McKenzie, a court reporter who knew the first victim in what will soon become a series of brutal murders. Jackson becomes intrigued with Gillian, a woman unlike any woman he has ever met before. His relationship with the mysterious Gillian tends to infringe upon his investigation into a serial killer who writes the words "Wayne's Dead" after each killing using the victim's blood. This is a great thriller which seems to flash by. Talk about down-to-the-bones writing. This author doesn't overindulge in anything - no skipping passages of boring desciptions with this one. Believe me, you don't want to miss a page, it moves that quickly. Wish it had been longer but loved the ending. Maybe Wayne isn't dead after all.
