Rating: Summary: A Completely Different View Review: In reading some of the other reviews, I can't help but believe that this is the first "Jake Grafton" book for some of the readers. They are looking for a development of a love story whereas, if they had read earlier books by Mr. Coonts they would have seen the development of most of these stories. This is often a problem in books that follow a certain protagonist through his life, but are not really a "series". Each book is capable of standing on its own, but is not as complete as it would be if previous books in the (again, I hesitate to use the word series) had been read. Having read the entire set of books, I found Cuba to be a good read, but not the best that I have read from Stephen Coonts. I very much enjoyed the "look" behind the scenes in Cuba developed in the first part of the book. At places the story seemed soemwhat hurried and there were some places that seemed incomplete. I would rate it 3.5 but since that is not available and this is not 4, in my opinion, I settled for 3.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK! Review: I read it in just one weekend. It's a good story, packed with action and subplots to keep the reader's interest until the end. It was great to find Jake, Toad and Rita again, after all these years. I only wish they had appeared in more central roles. I think Toad has grown as a character in "Cuba", though. The development of the characters in Cuba, as well as all the Steve Coonts' previous novels, is the best I've ever seen. Reading about Jake, Toad and Rita again is like reading about old friends. A great book for all the Jake Grafton serie lovers.
Rating: Summary: "Good not Great !" Review: I thought "Cuba," by Stephen Coonts was a good story (not great) but still interesting enough. Military action meets political fiction. I did like the characters and the suspense.
Rating: Summary: Not His BEST work ... Review: I just got done reading Mr. Coonts' new Jake Grafton novel ... CUBA. While it was good read about favorite characters (Cool-hand ... Toad ... Rita) I for one wouldn't call this a 'Jake Grafton Novel." I would have to say that our favorite A-6 driver was probably involved less than 25% of the story. While I did enjoy the story line, I also felt that it was much shorter than I would have liked. I'm sure a person of Mr. Coonts' caliber at writing stories such as (my favorites) "Flight of the Intruder" & especially "Final Flight" ... that we could've gotten a more detailed story line that what transpired in CUBA. The other thing that bothers me is that in almost every story after "Final Flight" Mr. Coonts seems it's necessary to have Jake in the throes of deciding what to do with his career. He's always on the brink of being forced into retirement by the political-ites of Washington. The story line of "Final Flight" was, I felt, superb with the many different characters, dialogue, flight scenes & espionage entanglements as compared with CUBA. It almost seems that Mr. Coonts was just trying to write a book for the sake of writing one. While I still remain a fan of Mr. Coonts & his cast of characters ... Jake, Callie, Toad, Rita, and mny others, I was disappointed by this book on a whole. If you're a FAN of Mr. Coonts from his first book "Flight of the Intruder" then you may be disappointed with this book. If you're new to Mr. Coonts' story-lines, then you will probably enjoy this book.

Rating: Summary: Nothing special, an average thriller Review: I have never read a Jake Grafton novel before this, and I don't think I will any time soon. This book is roughly as original and clever as it's title and moves along at a snail's pace. However, the international issues relating to Fidel Castro are definitely entertaining. Without a doubt the weakest character in this story is Grafton. His supporting cast, though they have laugh-out-loud names like Toad Tarkington and Tater Totten, are much more interesting and might deserve a novel or two of their own. This book is nothing out of the ordinary and pretty much defines average. I rounded up from 2.5 stars because Coonts seems like he could do better than this with a little prodding.
Rating: Summary: Slow start, but improves. Review: "Cuba" gets off to a slow start, and threatens to lose its way every now and then, but is overall pretty good. Not the best in the series, not the worst either.
Rating: Summary: Only an average thriller. Review: While entertaining, this book is very predictible. There aren't any surprises, so you are left with Coontz's description of events to entertain you. He does a good job describing the action and the CIA inflitration of CUBA. Grafton is a minor player in this book, his only job being to monitor an attack that he is in charge of. Still, this book is easy to read and not a total disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Hard to Believe But True Review: I just returned from having spend five days in Havana and the surrounding area and it was like being thrown back into history. Castro has been in power for 42 years and has managed to absolutley demolish the country. Those poor people have nothing and are ready for change. Coonts captures the aura that exists in Cuba today and puts it to a fast pace plot that leads one to believe could actually have happened. I really enjoyed the book and could relate to the various locations discussed in the book. This added to the enjoyment and intrigue for me. Very good book.
Rating: Summary: Average at best Review: At times the book has promise. The author did some research for his novel but he never seemed to make up his mind what kind of story he wished to offer the reader. Is it about Cuban politics, is it about war, is it about romance? However, it is an excellent book to read on a airplane or to take to the beach. Very easy to put down and pick back up again later.
